Top 16 SCG: Milwaukee with Sneak and Show

This is my first legitamte tournament report but roughly my thousandth Legacy tournament... so bare with me if the writing is a little weak. I am still working on taking better notes.

    Round 1- RUG Tempo
    0-2
Turn 1 Delver of Secrets followed by flipping turn 2 and followed up by 2 more Delvers and subsequent flips off a brainstorm on the next turn really set the tone for this match… I tried going for a Sneak Attack on my turn 3 with Misdirect… He forces my Show and Tell (which I paid using my island and an Ancient Tomb) and I Misdirect it so my Show and Tell resolves. I go to activate Sneak Attack to Emrakul his board away and he has the Stifle. By the end of his next turn I am dead.
Game 2 goes fairly similar to game 1 with turn 1 Delver and turn 2 flipped delver with another delver, he also played a waste land and took out my Volcanic, My opening had 2 Volcanics, an ancient tomb, Griselbrand, and Show and Tell with Force backup off a brainstorm. My next turn drew me a Ponder so I laid the Volcanic and Pondered into 3 Griselbrands… I shuffled that away and drew a Griselbrand. My opponent goes and lands another Waste for my Volcanic. The game ended shortly there after. I drew a fetch the next turn I think but when I went to crack it cause I had no choice or I would die to the next attack he had the Stifle to end it.

    Round 2- Mirror Match
    2-0
This game was prolly the most insane game of the day. I am on the play with a mull to 4. My first 2 hands are all land with Emrakul and then a Grisel, My five card was no land or petals and my 4 was Island, City, Show and Tell, and Griselbrand. My opponent goes turn 1 show and Tell Emrakul to which I drop Griselbrand and go stupid on my turn drawing 14 and casting my own Show and Tell to land my Emrakul and take his out. I beat him down quickly from there.
Game 2 was a huge blowout for much the same reason. My opponent left in his Show and Tells and I piggy backed off them on turn 7 or so with him playing a griselbrand to bring his permanent count to 5 and me landing an Emrakul. The first turns of this game were spent mainly playing draw go till turn 5 and 6 where he tried Sneak Attack and then Show and tell to which I spell Pierced and Spell Piereced/Flusterstormed respectively.

    Round 3- Merfolk
    0-2
I was never in either of these games really. He started off both games with turn 1 Vial turn 2 Standstill and landed Curse Catcher and then 2 drop lorded for nearly eternity. When I finally broke the Standstill’s his hands went to 9 on his end steps off of Brainstorm in an attempt to mitigate the card advantage but he simply had to much gas and control for me to get through it in either game.

    Round 4- Illusionary Mask
    2-0
The first game, I am on the draw and my opponent goes turn 1 Ancient tomb Grim monolith and passes. I take this as a sign that I am golden with my hand of Emrakul, Show and Tell, Lotus Petal Ancient tomb and go for it. He concedes on the spot.
Game two is a little slower because I borded out Show and Tell in favor of more control spells and in the course of the match Pierce a Monolith and apparently screw up his plan of Illusionary masking in an Eater of days by costing him to much mana on the turn and he simply doesn’t recover. I would never have guessed someone to play Illusionary mask outside of old Vintage so I was caught completely off guard. I thought him on Staxx.

    Round 5- Merfolk
    2-1
This game my notes are sketchy on but what I remember was that his deck was very unique. His deck packed Brainstorms, Preordains, Spell Pierce and Flusterstorms at the one drops and then he had every 2 drop merfolk lord and also Force and Misdirection plus fetches. Game one I got blown out simply because he had so many taxing spells backed up with threats. I simply took the wrong line of play due to the lack of knowledge in the match.
    Round 6- TES
    2-0
This match was against my friend Jeremy Seroogy and was rather important to me. He taught me how to play combo and really got me into eternal Magic… It was sorta the Student vs. the Master thing to me.
Game 1 was pretty good. I knew he was on combo so I kept a counter heavy 7 and was rewarded for it. He tried Silencing me turn 3 on the play to which I Forced he then continued to try and go off and when he went for the Infernal and ditched his hand to LED, I cast my second Force shutting him off. We played draw go for a few turns when he tried to go off one more time after I just put Emrakul into play. Little did he know I had one last Force and a brainstorm in my hand to shut out his last ditch effort.
Game 2 I made a minor logistical mistake when he tried comboing off on turn 2. For some reason I was stupid and cast a flustersorm at an Infernal tutor where he had like infinite mana in his pool off of 3 Dark Rits, a cabal Rit, and I think an LED… Suffice it to say he had like a million mana, but he had no way to stop the Force I had sitting in my hand… He payed for the Flusterstorm, got the Ad Nauseum and then I countered it. Thankfully he didn’t grab Past In Flames instead because I think that would have killed me.

    Round 7- Tin Fins
    2-1
Game 1 I blew my opponent out with a turn 2 Sneak Attack into Emrakul while on the play. He conceded on the spot.
Game 2 I got beaten into a pulp by a Griselbrand off of my Show and Tell where I put in a Sneak Attack into play with Emrakul in hand… Seems good right? I forgot my opponent landed a turn 1 Needle on Sneak Attack. Until the end of the game all I had seen was a few fetches, cantrips, and the demon. I was thinking he was on Reanimator until… I am at 2 life and he says “oh, your not dead? Here…” Then he casts dark rit, dark rit, dark rit, Tendrils. I then realized he was actually on Tin Fins and it allowed me to adjust my sideboard strategy a lot.
Game 3 We played draw go for the first 3 turns with me taking a control role and simply countering his disruption until I had Show and Tell with Griselbrand to essentially lock him out.

    Round 8- RUG tempo
Game 1 we receive a deck check where he receives a game one loss for registering a 59 card deck.
Game 2 We leads off with a Delver turn 1 and has it flipped on turn 2 off a Brainstorm. That Delver made quick work of my life when it had the backup of 2 Stifles and a Wasteland.
Game 3 I am on the play and lead off with an Island and Ponder trying to simply find the counters to force through either my inhand Show and Tell or Sneak Attack with Emrakul already in hand also. The next two turns I dropped Fetches and on My fourth turn (I think) I crack a Tarn to go fetch out a Mountain to which he stifles. I crack back with a Flooded Strand and fetch up an island which I use to Brainstorm. I then cast a Force on the Stifle and grab that land out leaving me with only 4 mana to work with; I Cast Show and Tell to which he forces and I Flusterstorm back. I then get Sneak Attack into play and on my next turn through Griselbrand into play and pay 7 to draw and then land Lotus Petal Emrakul and swing for lethal.

Round 9- Esper Stoneblade (text feature match)
Game 1 I am on the play and lead with a turn one Strand into Island. My opponent casts an Inquisition off of an Underground sea to which I cast brainstorm and hide my other Show and Tell and Spell Pierce on top (my only two cards under 4 mana). I cast a turn 2 Show and Tell with Griselbrand in hand and Force backup. I draw 7 on his upkeep and he concedes.
Game 2 we play draw go for a while and trade disruption until turn 5 when I cast a V-Clique on his endstep to clear the way for my Sneak Attack. We get into a counter war over the clique and when it finally resolves I see that my opponent has no actual disruption just a batterskull and 2 lands if I recall correctly. I cast Sneak Attack on my turn and throw in an Emrakul for the concession.

Re: Top 16 SCG: Milwaukee with Sneak and Show

Congrats on your finish and thanks for the report.

Where did you board Clique in? In all matches where you would normally board Show and Tell out, its natural. But do you also board it against other decks, to rip a counter or see if the coast is clear? If you do, what do you board out?
