Ah yes, I didn't see it had the dots.

You're correct. Stupid not reading a forum post in 6 years.

I think people looking at graded pieces laugh at the 6.5 and people looking for playable pieces are scared off by the case.

Yeah, that's the thing, I could have spent $400 on an MP Pearl or a low grade Pearl. I suppose a little bit of risk and you are rewarded, but you'd figure the retailers would just crack open low-grades. I've been told bandsaws are a pretty foolproof way of opening cases, but I didn't have access to one.
    Congrats on the Lotus :)

Is this the trop I talked to you about? If so, you're a lucky dog ;)

I have some seas with your name on them. Message me with what you're missing... Or I could race you to finishing the set. Oh the options!

For everyone who is cracking open Graded cases there are much easier ways to do it.

1 - Take a hack saw and cut from right to left about 3/16 of an inch above the card. The hack saw fine teeth so it will cut a nice edge and will help prevent damaging the card. Every once in a while you have to use a vacuum to remove the plastic particles so they do not build up. I have done the cutting while a friend holds a vacuum hose under the case.

2- Also you can pick up a small hand tool at home depot/lowes. It looks like a small knife with a hook end. Also grab a chisel. Take the hook tool and score a line on the plastic from right to left about 3/16 of an inch above the card. Next after you made a gouge put the edge of the chisel on the score line and hit it with a hammer. This will cause the case to crack just on that score line. You repeat this process on the back side .

This thread starts to sound like a guide to prison breaking.

    Still. Thanks for the tip!

I'll stick to smashing the case with barbell plates. It's like Matt with his ziplock bag of duals in some form.

Sorry for the quality, but this photo of Sloshthedark opening his Beta stuff is taken by my crappy iPhone 5.

I have only opened one graded card ever but I used a dremel along the edges and it worked perfectly.

Looks like the corners of that "Alpha" were attacked with some toenail clippers.

I've only been "working" on getting vintage stuff since last GenCon and I'm very nearly there. I hope to have the rest of the big money cards by the end of the year.

So I got drunk the other night and accidentally remembered enough triggers to Top 8 the Beer for Legacy event for Eudemonia's 10th Anniversary. Although it isn't exactly super pimp in the conventional sense, I figured there are at least a few folks out there that might appreciate the deck.
Here's what I played (click for higher (but not high) res images):

"There's nothing lovable about the evil Confusatron"

    and the sideboard:
"I'd hate to see what The Lobotomist would do with such a naive mind like yours"

Says the guy who literally had to ask the difference between Alpha and Beta Trops two pages ago. The assumption that that tropical island is a "Alpha cut" is purely wishful thinking. I don't know why someone would have cut the corners of a Beta themselves and it doesn't truly make sense but those corners are almost certainly not "Alpha cut" with any die.

IIRC, people did this so they would match Alpha pre widespread use of sleeves.
