13:2:1 @ BOM 9. Everyone needs his miracle!

    Hey guys,

I've been playing miracles for nearly two years and now that it's fully foiled out I enjoy it the most ;) That's why I decided to bring my baby for battling at BOM in Annecy.

From Nuremberg we had a 8 hour drive to Annecy due to traffic in Switzerland. We were welcomed by frosty 8° Celsius but a beautiful seasight from our hotel to the lake and the surrounding hills. Our friend Andrey bought us our dinner before, fearing that we might arrive to late to be able to still find a restaurant, thank you again for that!

As I enjoyed the benefit from two Byes for the Legacy Main I watched my friends battling on Thursday and registered this list for Friday + Sleep In <3 :

    Maindeck

    2 Vendilion Clique
    2 Snapcaster Mage

    4 Brainstorm
    3 Swords to Plowshares
    2 Spell Pierce
    1 Spell Snare
    2 Counterspell
    4 Force of Will

    2 Ponder
    3 Entreat the Angels
    3 Terminus
    1 Supreme Verdict

    3 Counterbalance
    3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    4 Sensei's Divining Top

    4 Island
    2 Plains
    4 Scalding Tarn
    4 Flooded Strand
    2 Arid Mesa
    2 Volcanic Island
    3 Tundra
    1 Karakas

    Sideboard

    1 Disenchant
    2 Flusterstorm
    1 Pyroblast
    2 Red Elemental Blast
    1 Engineered Explosives
    3 Rest in Peace
    2 Stoneforge Mystic
    1 Batterskull
    1 Counterspell
    1 Supreme Verdict

On Friday morning I packed enough food, some nuts and berries for best mental health, and took a breakfast at the location, soon after, the tournament began:

    Round 1 and 2: BYE

    Round 3: Jund 2:0
G1: I Snare a Confidant, Snapcaster Snare a second and win with an Entreat.
    G2: Much of the same.

    Round 4: BUG Landstill 2:1

G1: I win with Snapcaster beatdown.
G2: This is a long and exhausting battle, but he finally wins with manlands + Shaman.
G3: I play at turbospeed because I have less than 5 minutes left, I find an early Entreat and Counterspell two Deeds.

    Round 5: BUG Delver 2:0

G1: I have difficulties ceeping his creatures at bay, but finally I can Terminus trading 1:3 and landing a Jace.
G2: He takes one ore two Mulligans while I Entreat for 3 Angels.

    Round 6: Tin Fins 2:0

G1: He plays Scrubland go. I start with Island Top. In his third Turn my hand ist BS, Snapcaster, CB, Terminus, Island, Fetch and my board is Plains, Island and Top. He plays something and I think he is probably on Tin Fins, so I Brainstorm eOt putting back Snapcaster and then Terminus (as I have no 2s on Top). In my turn I Play Island, Balance and pass. He tries to go for it but I have the cC 2. From there on I lock him out with 1s and 2s until I find Clique. He laughs as I flip 1s and 2s for the rest of the game without looking into Top in Response to the CB trigger, anticipating his plays. Good games!
G2: I bring in all the hate and fluster his mini Tendrils. This was a very nice opponent and I enjoyed playing him very much. Thx buddy!

Round 7: Mirror (with Blasts) 2:0 CAMERA FEATURE

G1: We trade some ressources and CB blind flips (mostly from my side :P) until I am at a slightly positive boardposition with Clique, Jace and double CB vs his Jace + CB. As his hand is just no gas and I am able to Balance-counter his Terminus with mine he scoops it up to save time. For all the people who wondered why he did hat, I wondered as well^^
G2: I am slightly ahead until he makes 4-5 Angels in his upkeep...good that I had my one off EE in my starting hand and kept it until there I got lucky on this one, as he plays maindeck Blasts, which makes the MU negative (obvious^^)

Round 8: Death and Taxes 1:2

G1: I land a Jace and control the board with some sweepers, some Angels close the deal.
G2: He locks me out with Leonin Arbiter and Ghost Quarter...
G3: Much of the same as G2, I think I also took a Mulligan or two. I just don't get to resolve my 4cc spells as he is Ghost Quartering, Porting and Wasting me.

    Round 9: Sneak Show 2:1
G1: My cantrips leave me alone and he wins on turn 4/5 without any counters from my side... :(
G2: He misplays his Turn 2 Show and Tell in passing priority and not being able to topdraw his Griselbrand and just putting Emrakul from it, I have Karakas.
G3: I get angry as I think he tries to stall it out without being able to do much, but my hand full of gas takes it home.

    Round 10: Elves! I.D.

Top 8: Death and Taxes 1:2

G1: He starts with T1 Vial, I have no Force and not much of a chance.
G2: I may begin, he has no vial and I land a Jace.
G3: CAMERA FEATURE. He starts with T1 Vial again!, to which I have no answer. I thought for very long if I should keep my starting seven but I thought it was reasonable: 3 Lands (2 Fetch), Terminus, Verdict, Top, Swords. Than I think i make a slight misplay that cost me the game (I would have lost anyways pretty sure) as I sacrifice my EE in my mainphase to be able to take out 2 of his 3 creatures (anticipating Flickerwisp). I should have done this in his attacking step and Verdict in my mainphase again and go on from there. Sorry for that guys, I was pretty nervous too I think

So I become 7th and win 10 WB Duals.

On Sunday I decide to play this beauty again, althought with a different SB:

    1 Engineered Explosives
    1 Disenchant
    1 Pyroblast
    2 Red Elemental Blast
    1 Pithing Needle
    2 Rest in Peace
    2 Sulfur Elemental
    1 Blood Moon
    2 Flusterstorm
    1 Counterspell
    1 Enlightened Tutor

    Short Summary:

    Belcher 2:0
    Farmville 2:0
    Miracles 2:1
    Bant 2:1
    BUG Delver 0:2 (G1 Mull to 4. G2 I have Top,Top, Jace, 4 lands, he has double needle ...)
    Lands (nice Italian guy) 2:0

    I win a WB Underground Sea + 1 Bye for BOM 10.

I want to thank all my friends, the people rooting for me from at home and all gents that made this weekend as awesome as it was. I became acquainted with some new and cool people and chat with good legacy players from all over Europe. I just can encourage people to try this deck and the marvellous dinner in the hotels of Sevrier :)

This was all written from memory, I am sorry for grammatical mistakes, typos and so on :P

    Best wishes

In game three in the top 8 I would have kept your opening hand. Don't beat yourself up over it. How did you like SFM with batterskull in the sb? I wonder how come you didn't run any needles. But congrats on the finish man

    Congratz!

Finally you played Miracles in a big tournament and got rewarded. As you're playing so tight through the last years, you deserved this!

Thank you very much guys :)

I liked Stoneforge/BSK in the board, although I think these are the most flexslots in my list, as I am changing with Elementals/Clique/Explosives/Needles and such. The problem with Stoneforge is imo, that he is good in many matchups but never backbreaking, even in the Mirror when the opponent boards out his removal he can be handled @ sorcery speed (EE, Jace, Clique, Angels etc.). Needle is a fine card as well, one problem is that it might block your Explosives in creature MU's, though you don't mind most of the times, as needling Vial is BIG! I think slotproblems make it hard (I see 3rd RiP as the most cutable), as I think you can win against D&T and Merfolk without Needle but Dredge with 2 RiP is MUCH harder than with 3.

Thanks for the report! Would be interested to hear how you boarded (especially for the mirror and BUG Delver).

Re: 13:2:1 @ BOM 9. Everyone needs his miracle!

Mirror (without anticipating Stoneforge or Sulfur):

    -3 Terminus
    -3 Entreat
    -1 Verdict
    -3 Swords

    +2 Stoneforge
    +1 Batterskull
    +1 Counterspell
    +1 Engineered Explosives
    +2 Red Elemental Blast
    +1 Pyroblast
    +1 Disenchant
+1 Flusterstorm (or leave in 1 Entreat)

    BUG Delver:

    - 4 Force
    - 3 Balance

    + 2 Stoneforge
    + 1 Batterskull
    + 1 Verdict
    + 1 Engineered Explosives
    + 1 Counterspell
    + 1 Disenchant

Depends on their version. An alternative Boarding plan is bringing in the enchantments and leaving in CB, this is good when the TA Player tries to next level you in boarding out his Decays. Next level the next level ;) :D

In the top8 game I remember you playing E.E. and not taking advantage of Thalia's interaction with sunburst which saddened me You had 4 mana but you used 3 to play E.E. for 2, his board was full of 2 drops...

Re: 13:2:1 @ BOM 9. Everyone needs his miracle!

@dsck: I know that interaction very well and played it I think 3 times during the tournament. I can't find the videos, but i think you got that wrong as i remember to have played the EE for Sunburst 2 and cC 2 :)

Very good performance and nice meeting you again! Wish my deck was foiled, because I think I'll stick to Miracles for a while.. Cool that you won a bye for next year already =)! And nice that you used Blood Moon as I did in the main event and against your BUG Delver in the trial ! Guess it was helpfull vs Farmville & Lands ??

See you next year I guess! I hope 2015 will have 2x BoM + 1 GP..

    Well done Johannes!

The Death&Taxes guy in the top 8 already kicked me out of top8 in round9....have to take revenge for sure !

Congratulations on your excellent performance throughout the BoM and on getting top-8!

PS, your deck really is beautiful I was sitting next to you on Sunday (was playing Food Chain).

@Lans: Although I dislike Blood Moon, the straight win vs Farmville with upkeep Tutor for Moon was fun.
@nevilshute: Thank you man, so was yours! :)

I hope we will have two BOMs and a GP in 2015 as well. Legacy may not die!! Anyone of you guys going to Prague Eternal as well?

I'm going to attend Eternal Prague (probably with Ant again or Burg Delver maybe)

Let's go dual lands hunting !

Oh yeah, I often dislike Blood Moon too, but if nobody plays it.. It is often one BIG SURPRISE! For this tournament I thought it would be worth the slot, and it worked out well! Ask the Shardless BUG player, or the BUG Landstill player, or BUG Delver players who lost in a 4 turn game 3 ^^! And it was a good reason to play 1 enlightened tutor, which did more awesome stuff during the tournament. But I often switch to 'normal' sideboards.

I will be on an expensive 6 week road trip trough the USA from july 2 till august 13, so no Prague for me =(. Wish I could attend a Starcity Games Open, but I think I'll be at the wrong places every weekend..

But I'm very happy with my 29th place and Vintage top 8! So next year I'm in Annecy again, and I will think about going to one of those big Milan tournaments some day =)! Keep Legacy alive :D!

    Hi Johannes,

Good to see that you made day 2 (and better) this time. I'll certainly view the videos as soon as I've got time for it. Hope to play you again some time. This time I couldn't make it to Annecy!

    Best regards,
Martijn van der End (your R9 opponent at BoM Paris)

Re: 13:2:1 @ BOM 9. Everyone needs his miracle!

Thanks for the report! Was it difficult to finish most of your matches on time with the miracle deck? I've found it's tricky to win two games within the time limit in the few tournaments I've played miracles.
