    * 3 Decay
    * 1 Deluge
    * 1 Karakas
    * 1 Needle

    As for Sphere vs Chalice, I have tested both cards, but feel that sphere is better in a wide open GP meta.
    After some further testing, this is now my exact sideboard too.

    Good luck at the GP! Own it! (no pressure :P)

    Are you guys bringing in Sphere of Resistance against Miracles?

  3. #963

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    I bring sphere in against Miracles, Reanimator, UR Delver, Burn, Storm, SnT, Elves, & Bug. Still on the fence if it should come in vs. Grixis and Temur Delver.

    I also recieved confirmation from a L2 Judge that I can print out a sideboarding XLS sheet for the GP. I will consolidate the information from the previous 5-6 pages and provide a link.

    [Deck] Dark Depths

    Game three against storm opponent who has mulligan'd to six. Your hand composition has both pieces of the combo, lotus petal, crop rotation, sylvan scrying, and two lands. Would you keep?

    Windmill slam keep. Worst comes to worst you crop rotate for bog to throw off their inevitable LED -> Infernal or Cabal Ritual chain. Unless its PSI, most storm decks go off t2-t3 these days.

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    Alright that's good to know. I did end up keeping that hand, but I don't think I was coy enough checking out his graveyard for threshold, so he went with the Ad Nauseam route.

    In fact, you can have a huge book with all your sideboarding notes in it. It just cannot be referred to during the games, only during sideboarding

    If someone wanted to make a really good side boarding guide and send it to me i'll post it in the primer so it's easy to access for everyone.
    Play 4 Card Blind!

    Currently Playing
    Legacy: Dark Depths
    EDH: 5-Color Hermit Druid

    Currently Brewing: [Deck] Sadistic Sacrament / Chalice NO Eldrazi

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    I'll make an XLS tomorrow and upload it here. It'll include every deck in DTB and established. Also took down a legacy FNM (eldrazi/MUD/eldrazi/UR Delver) and 4-1ed the competitive league with the same 1 NoTW, 1 charm, 1 Deluge, 0 ith, 0 garruk, 0 grip list.

    My biggest question mark at this point is whether sphere comes in vs delver decks.

    Current thoughts:

    * UR - Yes, rationale: this is a glorified burn deck
    * Grixis - Yes, rationale: slows down the git probe/therapy/pryomancer value train
    * Sultai - No, rationale: Deathrite + mana denial
    * 4c - No, rationale: Deathrite + mana denial

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    2 more paper events had Top 8 finishes. Deck seems to be getting more traction.

    @jdmdave you are running 2 NoTW in your main right?

    If you cut the Swamp is there a legitimate reason to run any fetches just to pick up 1 Bayou or 1 Forest? You seem to have thin chances against Blood Moon since you don't even run Expedition Maps. How is that manabase working for you? If running Marshes at all I would run full playset.

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    Speaking of running marshes, I'm looking at adding a 3rd dual land into my main and won't be shelling out for another bayou before the next couple events I plan on attending (including GP Louisville). In its place what do you guys think would be a better 1-of BG land between llanowar wastes (Always comes in untapped), Blooming marsh (not painful), or Overgrown Tomb (fetchable)?

    I've also changed up my sideboard plan to no spheres (I really haven't liked them thus far) and wanted to get some second opinions on it. I'd prefer to run chalices but that is the same situation as the 3rd bayou.

    3x Abrupt Decay - Catch-all answer
    1x Golgari Charm - moon decks, small creature decks
    4x Surgical Extraction - Swords decks & combo decks
    1x Lost Legacy - Additional extraction effect to come in against swords decks and combo
    1x Toxic Deluge - Creature decks
    2x Grafdigger's Cage - Storm, Reanimator, Green Sun decks, and Natural Order decks
    1x Garruk Relentless - Miracles
    1x Karakas - Show and Tell decks , Reanimator decks

    @ottoman : Without Sphere OR Chalice you are going to suffer against 1) bulls*** decks such as Belcher 2) Storm.

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    XLS with matchup sbding coming tomorrow.

    First, I did some scouting today and it seems like there is a HUGE amount of miracles, reanimator, and delver decks. As such, I think the golgari charm should be cut for a more relevant card (garruk, loam, crucible), but what?

    Current sideboard:

    * 3 Surgical (locked)
    * 4 Sphere (locked)
    * 1 Karakas (locked)
    * 3 Decay (locked...4th?)
    * 1 Needle (locked)
    * 1 Deluge (locked)
    * 1 Not of this world (locked)
    * 1 Flex (Garruk: miracles, Loam: miracles/delver, Crucible: miracles, delver, 4th Decay: Miracles, Delver, Drownyard: Miracles)

    Second, what are your guys thoughts on jamming the combo on the play vs unknown matchps w/o T1 disruption. Do you go for it or first find out what your opponent is on, then go T2?

  16. #976

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    Garruk or Crucible. You need a way to grind.

    T1 is a gamble. I probably wouldn't do it game 1, as the turn 1 combo puts you so far behind if it fails.

    But I mean sometimes you have to go for it. I did it vs shardless and I just hoped they didn't have a force, but I knew what they were on and could STP.

    Happy Thanksgiving for all the people in the US.

    I can't get a crucible in time, so I'll jam Garruk.

    Re: [Deck] Dark Depths

    Biggest thing with delver is you are removing scrying instead of crop rotation. Crop rotation is dangerous because if it gets countered you get 2-for-1'd. Against counter heavy decks I would typically remove rotation over scrying. However, this was also in the setting of using Chalice instead of sphere.

    Why Karakas against so many delver decks? What are you looking at bouncing? I didn't focus too much on more fringe decks when preparing, because I could decide to interact less and go faster if I needed to.

    Good luck in the tournament!

    The only thing that comes to mind on his Karakas vs Delver additions is that he may just want an additional come into play untapped land over Bog. I do something similar, but add the second waste effect (Ghost Quarter) in the delver match-ups where bog is dead instead of Karakas. Obviously Bog is somewhat useful if they are on both Goyf and Nimble Mongoose (or the occasional Snapcaster + bounce spell), but that combo of threats/answers is rare nowadays and not a big deal anyway.
