    [Brainstorming] Killing hordes of 1/1 goblins

    I was brainstorming some creative, cheap, and underplayed ways to take out that dreaded first turn horde of 1/1 goblins. I don't think that we should be interested in anything over 2cc. See if you can help me out:


    (1 Damage)
    Red
    Bloodfire Dwarf
    Breath of Darigaaz
    Krark-Clan Shaman (lol)
    Rain of Embers (though why would you play this over Pyroclasm?)
    Scorching Winds
    Tremor
    Volcanic Spray (interesting since it has flashback for 1R)
    Yamabushi's Storm (though why would you play this over Pyroclasm?)

    (Dark Ritual to cheat mana)

    The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and Crop Rotation.

    I think you have to include Ghostly Prison and Propagand under the assumption that they can be accelerated with Ancient Tomb/City of Traitors and the Goblin Tokens are useless if they can't attack.

    Edit: Breath of Darigaaz is an awesome find.

    Explosives is really good.

    Also, you don't have to kill the tokens, as long as you don't die to them. See tax effects.

    Hmmm...Blessed Reversal? Neutralizes Goblin tokens for three turns, which is enough for most decks to find a solution. Also note that Sicken and Outbreak act like Dry Spells as well.

    EDIT: Erm, I meant Nausea, not Sicken. My bad. Thanks Xero.

    Caltrops, Sandstorm and Naseua can take care of 1/1's pretty well. Elephant Grass is cheap and can stop the tokens for a few turns at least.

    I think we should be looking at cards that deal more than 1 damage because those cards also answer hordes of non-token Goblins.

    One damage cards also answer turn-one Lackey. The problem is a lack of good, low cc cards that do more than one damage.

    Well, 3CC eliminates Bone Flute and Fyndhorn Pollen. So I suppose people will just stick with Isochron Scepter + Hell Swarm until they ban both of them.

    But seriously, a lot of these options are just bad against everything that isn't Empty the Warrens. There aren't infinite decks that can run Pyroclasm, Echoing Truth, or Engineered Explosives. So for awhile, we may be reduced to the Sandstorms of the world.

    I think the only time warrens is ever a huge problem is when its played turn 1 especially on the play. Therefore, I think leyline of singularity would be a great inclusion into almost any deck having problems with first turn warrens. Against a deck like TES it will only buy you time but for most decks time is all you need. I also think tabernacle with crop rotation was an awesome idea as well and its good against anything with alot of creatures in it but its really more an answer for blue control decks like landstill than for threshold. In time I think each deck will find its answer for warrens that is still good against other things.

    Thunderstaff from acceleration.
    It doesn't kill them but can be used to boost your own creatures in other matchups.

    I know that.

    I was just trying not to repeat what has already been said. Anyway, the best are :
    - echoing truth
    - engineered explosives
    - engineered plague
    - pyroclasm and ersatz
    - rolling earthquake and ersatz

    The rest is too narrow to be used.
