Thread: [Deck] Aggro Loam

    Re: [Deck] Aggro Loam

It's certainly true that TNN can sometimes just 'get you', though I think that that can be said for even some of our most positive match ups tbh.

Chalice is definitely more of an issue for the Duke BUG deck and I've found that our deck really overwhelms their abrupt decays, making Chalice even better. Yes, they run daze but they are easily the worst daze deck in the format - I've noticed the play pattern of: They daze my thing, I wasteland them next turn, they reach three mana way too late, occurring pretty regularly. I can concede JTMS is a beating, though the games they reach four mana that easily are surely the games they've managed to just get away from you anyway.

I've found a more proactive approach of powering out something problematic quickly, as opposed to trying to answer everything they have, to be a more successful mentality against them. Loam is fantastic at navigating narrower board stalls, and powering out big Knights or a Scooze can be really annoying for them when you're threatening to kill them on the crack back.
    I play Loams sometimes.

    Hey,
the most up to date primer will be Apoccolyps6´s Primer, i guess (Apos page). But it is incomplete. Most primers i know are the old version with burning wishes and such.

A good source is of course this thread e.g. for sideboard options.
Another one is mats_oles twitch channel (mats_Twitch)

The matchups are difficult to tell, because there is kind of a consens on some, but others vary. Of course those are all dependend on your maindeck + sideboard.

in my subjective opinion (slightly) positive:
lands (if they dont do turn 1-3 combo and you draw nothing), miracles, delver decks, shardless, Ant, Cloudpost, dredge (i am playing bojuka bog, Scooze main, sometimes deathrite), Eldrazi, death & taxes (but only played small number of games against them with prelate)

    negative:
burn, fast combo (belcher, tes...), Reanimator (ub and br), Show and tell +sneak attack decks.

I never really played against the new BUG(4c) decks.

Welp that was some news to wake up to...

With miracles gone I foresee lots of people trying out nic fit and maverick. Elves and combo gets a boost as well. Oh there's stompy too so that means blood moons. Can't forget about sneak and show.

Elves is the only one on that list I feel ok against. Maybe side board need more golgari charm and choke has more value now?

If BUG ends up being a big dog I can see moving chalices to the side and bringing in 3 swords + 1 deluge to the main.

If Elves also goes up you will miss the chalices though. Gonna need some time to see how it shakes up.

This; 4c loam is a pretty meta deck, though I think the main change will be to run more deluge in the long run. Just a gut feeling.
    Lands, MUD, Stax, and Miracles.

I think I'm just gonna see how it plays out without any attempts to get ahead of the changes. I like adapting in "stale" metas much more than unpredictable ones. I think we take a hit every time the meta changes even if its for the better (like with Eldrazi).

More "Green" decks (Maverick, NicFit, etc.) also means more combo decks -> You want Chalices I think.

Maybe UWX stoneblade decks will come in to fight the combo decks and things calm down from there?

I believe we only want to mess with the sideboard....
The main deck 2nd library is no more of course. And in the sideboard slot more cards against combo....

    my sideboard on modo is
    2 duress/ts
    2 swords
    3 canonist
    2 charms
    2 planeswaker
    1 gq
    3 leyline

Chalices were good when niklas won BoM, Miracles was in the shadows at the time...

2nd library was mostly for miracles IMO... you don't want it against combo, so maybe put it on the side? Most of the decks that will arise(i assume) are fast so Library is kinda meh...

Are you not playing any deluges or are they in your main? Agreed with the retooling element.

    Re: [Deck] Aggro Loam

So lets see for combo matchups does this seem right?

    Worst:
    Sneak and show
    Aluren
    Food chain

    Unfavored:
    Reanimator (UB & BR)
    Storm
    Dredge
    Tin Fins

    OK:
    Elves
    Infect
    Enchantress

    Re: [Deck] Aggro Loam

I would say reanimator, storm, and dredge are favored after the ban, tin fins haven't really been a deck in ages, but i'm gussing that is also fairly decent, maybe 50-50

All the delver decks will come back in force to reduce this...

I would change the unfavored to favored and the OK(except infect) to unfavored
    (ignoring Tin Fins)

I'd say whatever version of Maverick that works well against Delver - Punishing Maverick, right? Bring back Bolt? Hell, maybe that 1G 2/1 Pro Blue Can't be countered spider can go in the board.

    Maverick > Delver > Combo > Maverick...like a normal format.

I'm not saying it's the easiest deck to play, but the plan is so linear that I could probably get white girl wasted and still beat people with the deck.
