1. Asthereal (TO): Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens LL
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens LL
4. Moosedog: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Deadly Recluse, Thornweald Archer WW - First strike makes deathtouch blockers sad.
5. alphastryk: Mountain, Crack the Earth, Keldon Halberdier, Gut Shot LL
6. H: Mountain, Satyr Hoplite, Akroan Crusader, Mark of Fury LL - You just go wide, which I can do nothing about.
7. FTW: Forest, Rogue Elephant, Skyshroud Cutter, Skyshroud Cutter DL
8. maxx!: Island, Swamp, Striped Riverwinder, Exhume DL
9. Tylert: Mountain, Keldon halbardiers, Keldon halbardiers, Blazing volley LL
10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger LL
2w2d = 8 points
@H: Blazing Volley is a sorcery, so you can actually handle it quite well, just play Hoplite which forces a Volley cast on its own, then go wide with Crusader once Volley is cast. You should be able to get 5 tokens to trade with one Halberdier (you need 5 because of first strike damage) and then chump the other forever while counterattacking.

Results for an interesting round 3
1. Asthereal (TO): Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
I forgot there was still a storm deck - should have played Blazing Volley. LL 0-6
2. Wrath of Pie: Snow-Covered Island, Arcum's Astrolabe, Stormscape Apprentice, Keldon Halberdier
I think I can always remove your ability to use the Apprentice with Crack the Earth, and Gut Shot handles your suspend threat. WW 6-0
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
I forgot there was still a storm deck - should have played Blazing Volley. LL 0-6
4. Moosedog: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Deadly Recluse, Thornweald Archer
Crack the Earth removes your ability to cast 2 mana spells, and First Strike beats Deathtouch. WW 6-0
5. alphastryk: Mountain, Crack the Earth, Keldon Halberdier, Gut Shot
This is me
6. H: Mountain, Satyr Hoplite, Akroan Crusader, Mark of Fury
OTP: I suspend my threat, then you play a threat. On my turn I crack the Earth and then Gut Shot your threat. W
OTD: You play a threat, then I suspend my threat. Then you can play a second threat or Mark of Fury. 2nd threat seems like it makes more sense. I then Crack the Earth and Gut shot one of your threats. W
6-0
7. FTW: Forest, Rogue Elephant, Skyshroud Cutter, Skyshroud Cutter
OTP: I suspend my threat, then you play out your team.. Turn 2, I play Crack the Earth and you sacrifice one of the 2/2s. This will come down to a race, as eventually I can play defense and force a draw. Racing math:
my t1: Mountain, suspend KH.
your t1: play out team, I gain 10 life. me: 30, you: 20
my t2: KH down to 3 counters, Play Crach the Earth. You sacrifice a 2/2.
your t2: attack for 5. me: 25, you: 20
my t3: KH to 2
your t3: attack for 5. me: 20, you: 20
my t4: KH to 1
your t4: attack for 5. me: 15, you: 20
my t5: KH to 0, cast. Since you're ahead on the race, I just sit back to block which leaves you with no good attacks. From here we draw. D
OTD: Similar to the above - the 1 turn difference isn't enough to finish me off. D
2-2
8. maxx!: Island, Swamp, Striped Riverwinder, Exhume
Neat way to have the reanimator deck through Sea's Claim / Evil Presence. I think Crack the Earth will always prevent you from casting Exhume though.. EDIT - OTD I can prevent Exhume but it costs me the ability to have a threat. WD 4-1
9. Tylert: Mountain, Keldon halbardiers, Keldon halbardiers, [cards]Blazing volley[/cards
OTP: I suspend my threat, then you suspend yours. Then I Crack the Earth preventing you from casting another spell. Gut Shot handles your threat. EDIT - you can always hold your Mountain and Blazing Volley until I play my threat, so this is a draw. D
OTD: You suspend a threat, then I do, then you suspend a second one before I can Crack the Earth. My Gut Shot trades for your first threat but then we stare at each other. D
2-2
10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
EDIT - race math below:
OTP:
a t1: Mountain, suspend KH (4).
s t1: Forest, Tiger (sacrificing Forest)
a t2: KH (3), Crack the Earth (s loses the Tiger)
s t2: Forest, Tiger (sacrificing Forest)
a t3: KH (2)
s t3: Attack for 3. a:17, s: 20
a t4: KH (1)
s t4: Attack for 3. a: 14, s: 20
a t5: KH (0) -> cast. Attack for 4. a: 14, s: 16
s t5: Attack for 3. a: 11, s: 16
a t6: Attack for 4. a: 11, s: 12
s t6: Attack for 3. a: 8, s: 12
a t7: Attack for 4. a: 8, s: 8
s t7: Attack for 3. a: 5, s: 8
a t8: Attack for 4. a: 5, s: 4
s t8: Attacking isn't a win, and blocking can't save a draw due to First Strike
a wins with 1 turn to spare. W
OTD:
s t1: Forest, Tiger (sacrificing Forest)
a t1: Mountain, suspend KH (4).
s t2: Forest, Tiger (sacrificing Forest). Attack with original Tiger for 3. a: 17, s: 20
a t2: KH (3), Crack the Earth (s loses a Tiger)
s t3: Attack for 3. a: 14, s: 20
a t3: KH (2)
s t4: Attack for 3. a: 11, s: 20
a t4: KH (1)
s t5: Attack for 3. a: 8, s: 20
a t5: KH (0) -> Cast. Attack for 4. a: 8, s: 16
s t6: Attack for 3. a: 5, s: 16.
a t6: Attack for 4. a: 5, s: 12.
s t7: Attack for 3. a: 2, s: 12.
a t7: Leave back the First Strike blocker, forcing a draw. D
4-1
Total: 30 points

"The Ancients teach us that if we can but last, we shall prevail."
—Kaysa, Elder Druid of the Juniper Order
If you Crack before you suspend Keldon, you can't actually win, just draw. OTD I think you're too slow.
Maxx - Cycle Riverwinder
You - If you don't Crack now, you lose to Exhume. So you cast Crack, but now you have no lands.
WD?
I almost played a variation of your deck, but passed on it because Empty was still legal and Blazing Volley is too slow with Crack.
Silk - Tiger10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
After I suspend my threat, Crack the Earth will always remove one of your threats, and I can race the other. First Strike means you can't ever block to trade. WW 6-0
You - Suspend
Silk - Tiger #2, Attack [A=17]
You - Crack, 3 time counters
Silk - Attack [A=14]
You - 2 time counters
Silk - Attack [A=11]
You - 1 time counter
Silk - Attack [A=8]
You - Keldon resolves, but you need 5 attacks while Silk needs only 3.
Going first it'll be 5 attacks vs 4 from Silk, so you still can't race.
DD?
Edit: Nevermind. Going first you get to Crack his 1st Tiger instead of the 2nd, stopping an attack and buying enough tempo to race. WD 4-1 for you

Total: 22 points
Nice deck! Almost a clean sweep.
I expected this to come out a few rounds later because it gets blown out by land destruction, but all the Sea's Claim and Evil Presence vanished!
Results don't agree. @Wrath, where does your draw come from?
W - Island. Astrolabe
A - Mountain. Suspend 4 counters
W - Suspend 4 counters
A - Crack the Earth. You lose Astrolabe (losing Island is worse)
W - Stormscape, without mana to use abilities.
He can Gut Shot your Keldon, then his Keldon beats your vanilla 1/1
Leading with Stormscape is worse
W - Island. Stormscape
A - Mountain. Suspend 4 counters
W - Astrolabe
A - Gut Shot Stormscape. Crack the Earth. Losing either Island or Astrolabe stops you from casting Keldon.
Then his Keldon beats your empty board

9. Tylert: Mountain, Keldon halbardiers, Keldon halbardiers, Blazing volley
This might be the perfect list against me, ha. 0-6.
10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
Trade deathtouch guys for tigers and I’m left with 1/1. 6-0
Total: 16 points.
That also makes sense to me, updating.
EDIT:
Just saw the other discussion for me vs silkster. I thought I ran through it to come up with my result, but I will revisit:

this was not the week to play around evil presence. oof
1. Asthereal (TO): Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
OTP i get a blocker in time. OTD i don't. 1-4
2. Wrath of Pie: Snow-Covered Island, Arcum's Astrolabe, Stormscape Apprentice, Keldon Halberdier
i think you're only fast enough to force a draw when you're on the play
me OTP
m!: island, cycle
WoP: sc island, astrolabe
m!: swamp, exhume
WoP: suspend halberdier (suspend = 4)
m!: attack (WoP=15)
WoP: apprentice (suspend = 3)
m!: attack (WoP=10)
WoP: suspend = 2
m!: attack (WoP=5)

WoP: apprentice (suspend = 3)
m!: attack (WoP=15)
WoP: suspend = 2
m!: attack (WoP=10)
WoP: suspend = 1
m!: attack (WoP=5)
WoP: halberdier resolves and now you can double block to force a draw
4-1
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
OTP i get a blocker in time. OTD i don't. 1-4
4. Moosedog: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Deadly Recluse, Thornweald Archer
my biggest fear: 2 deathtouch guys. 0-6
5. alphastryk: Mountain, Crack the Earth, Keldon Halberdier, Gut Shot
OTP you have to crack the earth immediately and neither of us can do anything. OTD you suspend your halberdier and then crack my first land. 1-4
6. H: Mountain, Satyr Hoplite, Akroan Crusader, Mark of Fury
this deck is sick. if i attack you can chump forever with tokens and counterattack with either guy, and if i don't you can buff your satyr until it's big enough to win on its own. 0-6
7. FTW: Forest, Rogue Elephant, Skyshroud Cutter, Skyshroud Cutter
too many guys for me to attack into, but you can't attack into my guy either. 2-2
8. maxx!: Island, Swamp, Striped Riverwinder, Exhume
that's me : ]
9. Tylert: Mountain, Keldon halbardiers, Keldon halbardiers, Blazing volley
pretty sure blazing volley being a sorcery gets me a win OTP, but it might let you kill me OTD? need to check this
me OTP
m!: island, cycle
T: mountain, suspend halberdier (suspend = 4)
m!: swamp, exhume
T: suspend halberdier (suspend = 3,4)
m!: attack (T=15)
T: suspend = 2,3
m!: attack (T=10)
T: suspend = 1,2
m!: attack (T=5)
T: first halberdier resolves, but you can't attack or you die. second suspend = 1
m!: attack. you have to block or you die
T: same situation as before. you can't survive from here
me OTD
T: mountain, suspend halberdier (suspend = 4)

m!: swamp, exhume
T: suspend = 2,3
m!: attack (T=15)
T: suspend = 1,2
m!: attack (T=10)
T: first halberdier resolves. attacking seems fine since you don't want to block yet. second suspend = 1 (m!=16)
m!: attack (T=5)
T: second halberdier resolves. i don't think you can ever attack safely. if you double attack then i win on my turn, and if you hold 1 back to block i can safely attack into it, so you have to hold both back.
4-1 i think
10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
you can't attack me and i can't attack you. 2-2
1+4+1+0+1+0+2+4+2 = 15
not great, but this week was super interesting. lots of really cool decks
I took that a step further and used the VLOOKUP function to automatically look for the score corresponding to your name, instead of having to figure out the cell references each time (because players are in a different order each round).
Now you can literally just copy and paste the formula and it will put in the right value, rounded. For every player and round. Much less work to maintain!
Details
If anyone is familiar with the VLOOKUP function, the arguments used are a little more complicated than usual. I set the Range wide enough to account for growth of up to 8 new players to our 4CB group (B2:Z19). Because we don't always have the same number of players playing each round, the Index value is dynamic: I used COUNTUNIQUE to count the number of unique players listed that round. I also used INDIRECT references so it reads the "Round 2" or "Round 3" title above and knows to go to that corresponding sheet.

10. silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
1. Asthereal: You do your thing, I blazing volley, you die. 6-0 --> 6
2. Wrath of Pie: I have two hallebardier vs your 1/1 and your 4/1. You got to play both if you don't want to lose, then I can blazing voley and win. 6-0 --> 12
3. GoblinSmashmaster: You do your thing, I blazing volley, you die. 6-0 --> 18
4. Moosedog: I can blazing volley your elf so that you can't cast anything. 6-0 --> 24
5. Alphastryk: Crack the earth + gut shot would kill me for sure. So I do nothing, and if you play halbardiers I blazing volley. 2-2 --> 26
6. H: You can either go wide or go big and by playing only one threat I cannot kill both with blazing volley. 0-6 --> 26
7. FTW: I agree 1-4 --> 27
8. Maxx!: I agree 1-4 --> 28
9. Me.
10. Silkster: OTP: T1 = Mountain, halbardiers (H4). Forest, tiger.
T2 = Hallebardiers (H4) (H3). Forest, tiger, att (M17)
T3 = H3 H2. Att (M11)
T4 = H2 H1. Att (M5)
T5 = H0, resolves. no attacks.
From here, I'll get two halbardiers and will be able to attack with 1 and keep one in defence.
OTD: T1 = Forest, tiger. Mountain H4.
T2 = Forest tiger, att (M17). H4, H3.
T3 = Att (M11). H3 H2.
T4 = Att (M5). H2, H1.
T5 = You win.
3-3 --> 31.
Total 31.
Last minute deck was not so bad. Blazing volley is good when lots of people are playing X/1 (And storm of course).

My read on the round was that the removal was better than the creatures. No one agreed.
Disagreements against Moosedog and Tylert.Resolved.
Me: silkster: Forest, Forest, Scythe Tiger, Scythe Tiger
1. Asthereal (TO): Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
2 points
2. Wrath of Pie: Snow-Covered Island, Arcum's Astrolabe, Stormscape Apprentice, Keldon Halberdier
This deck is really elegant. On the draw, I get 5 turns before Halberdier lands, on which I do 0-3-6-6-6 damage. You block once, but then I can punch through one last time. 6 points
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Mountain, Rite of Flame, Rite of Flame, Empty the Warrens
2 points
4. Moosedog: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Deadly Recluse, Thornweald Archer
If you attack with Recluse, I attack back with both. If you attack with Archer, I trade, and I can counterattack if you attack with Recluse.Untapping is good. This deck is so fragile to all the removal that wasn't played this week. Well done! 0 points
5. alphastryk: Mountain, Crack the Earth, Keldon Halberdier, Gut Shot
I've even submitted Crack the Earth + Gut Shot in a Modern 4CB, but somehow I forgot about it. Oops. On the draw, I'm one turn too slow to defend a draw game. On the play, I have tons of time. 1 point
6. H: Mountain, Satyr Hoplite, Akroan Crusader, Mark of Fury
I considered how much this deck wrecks me and thought that removal was too strong this round. 0 points
7. FTW: Forest, Rogue Elephant, Skyshroud Cutter, Skyshroud Cutter
0 points. This is doubly painful because I really wanted Skyshroud Cutter for later rounds.
8. maxx!: Island, Swamp, Striped Riverwinder, Exhume
I can do the cool trick of not letting one Tiger die, but saving my land does nothing. 2 points
9. Tylert: Mountain, Keldon halbardiers, Keldon halbardiers, Blazing volley
On my play I win too fast. On your play, you get one Halberdier down at 5 life. Next turn, you can start attacking with one per turn. WL, 3 points
16 points. Where are all the kill spells?!

Looks like we're complete for the round.
Standings for this one:
Rank. Player: Score - SP
1. H: 48 - 5,3
2. FTW: 36 - 4
3. Tylert: 31 - 3,4
4. alphastryk: 30 - 3,3
5. Asthereal (TO): 22 - 2,4
5. GoblinSmashmaster: 22 - 2,4
7. Moosedog: 16 - 1,8
7. silkster: 16 - 1,8
9. maxx!: 15 - 1,7
10. Wrath of Pie: 8 - 0,9
Leading to these bannings:
Akroan Crusader
Blazing Volley
Keldon Halbardier
Mark of Fury
Rogue Elephant
Satyr Hoplite
Skyshroud Cutter
Thanks to a few advanced Excel users we now have a proper-looking spreadsheet.
I did not find time to check everything, but assuming you know what you're doing, these are the season standings after round 3:
1. H: 13,3
2. FTW: 12,1
3. maxx!: 9,2
4. Tylert: 8,4
5. alphastryk: 7,4
6. Asthereal (TO): 7,3
7. silkster: 7,2
8. GoblinSmashmaster: 6,1
9. Moosedog: 6
10. Wrath of Pie: 5,9
So H has been killing it so far. Keep it up!
EDIT: PS. for the Americans among us:
If you're confused about the 1,3 instead of 1.3 in the spreadsheet and standings, that's because I'm Dutch and use the Dutch version of the Google suite.
In the Netherlands, for numbers we use the comma and the dot the other way around than the Americans do. Never learnt why though.![]()
Join the 4 Card Blind competition!
I thought removal would be bad due to Empty the Warrens going wide and Sea's Claim/Evil Presence messing up colored mana before threats unsuspend, so I just went turn 1 aggro to beat those decks.
But if other people don't play removal for the same reason, then H's deck is very strong!!
