The event and the artists should be amazing....

Pollack did the Chrome Mox that is the current GP Foil promo card!

This just happened to really work out for me because my two brothers and myself live in Minneapolis and my sister lives in Chicago so we are going to take the Megabus there ($40 round trip) and crash at her place while using her car lol.

So which clubs are the meat markets for all the single guys Saturday night?

Are the grinders worth playing in?

I was wondering the same thing Bryant.

Only if you have 0-1 bye.

5-0 will get you three byes. If that's it worth it then yes. I think it is, simply because getting byes should allow to avoid random, unplanned-for (and thus not sideboard prepared) decks. I'll be there.

When do the grinders start? Or are they running basically all day friday?

They start at noon, and should run until there's no more interest or until it gets pretty late.

Having byes is so critical to GP success that if you have only one or no byes, you should play in as many grinders and you can afford to or stand to. They're rough, but the payoff is huge.

Running some of the later ones that finish at like 3AM is more questionable though, I guess.

From Pasttimes.Net: Grand Prix Trials (3 Power Tickets) $20.00 entry
Starting at noon. 32 Person Single Elimination
Win a 3 round bye to the Grand Prix and Conflux prize packs!

Any idea on the specifics of the prize support? Are packs only for the winner? That seems cruel.

As a general rule of thumb prizes only go to the winner. Grinders are meant to disappoint 31 people.
"Michael opens with Lotus Petal, Academy Ruins, Phyrexian Dreadnaught, and Stifle. I Force of Will the Stifle, but he has Force of Will backup. I Ponder on turn one and again on turn two, but fail to find a Swords to Plowshares before he has smashed me twice. " That's losing to Mike Sanchirico.

You mean 3 byes and six draft sets actually.

If they start at noon I will probably play in at least 1. No reason not to in my opinion.

Unless I'm suddenly failing at math, I'm pretty sure that first place gets enough packs for a full 8-person draft. That's what I meant by 'draft set' anyway.

Three packs is a draft set. To the rest of the known universe, anyway.

That's good enough for Pollack to be there. Signed Foil Promo Mox would look nice in the binder.

Well, then first gets eight draft sets, not six. But whatever.

On what do you base this wild claim? It's not like you top 8'd Legacy Worlds or anything.
