You need to play 4 survival. The 1 of deed without any search is plain random.
@Hawdes list:
I think that you should fit 1 SDT into the main. I don't see a reason for splitting 1 EE and 1 Deed, sure you avoid Pithing Needle but that doesn't matter until games 2 and 3 anyway (and even then, they are gonna be naming Survival first).
-1 ???
-1 Engineered Explosives
+1 SDT
+1 Pernicious Deeds
I see. I assume not running Dark confidant improves your combo matchup by preventing life loss? And you don't have to run (or at least you're not running) Top, which makes decks slow (but consistent). Well, you can't argue with success, I'll just go ahead and try it myself.
"Our words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS!"
The reason I run EE is very simple in fact. The meta from where I'm around many people tend to pilot dredge. Just a week ago there were two dredge combo decks in the top 8. The EE gives me a potential chance at a better matchup game 1 and even better games 2 and 3 against it if i pop the EE for zero. It's even faster than Deed and requires less commitment.
Is it really worth running SDT without BoB?
its reported that 2 survival builds made it into the 2nd day of gp chicago. does anyone have those lists? i cant find them anywhere.
Michael Jacob was playing survival on day 2. I don't know his entire list but I am pretty sure he was playing dark confidant, sensei's divining top, aether vile and big game hunter.

Round 1: (Bye) 1-0
Round 2: Jeff Fredrickson with Eva Green. I win 2-0.

The night before i had the Chants in the board but cut them for more graveyard hate when all I saw were Ichorid and 41 Land decks in the GPTs. It ended up not making much of a difference. I prob should have had like 2 Grips maindeck, but hindsight is 20/20.

I severed the pig's head."

I played this list to a lame ass 79th place finish. I lost to the dragon stompy player who made top 8 in round 11, and went on tilt for the next round. making day 2 was nice, but a round 6 loss to a terrible zoo player who killed me with turn 1 birds, turn 2 woolly thoctar, turn 3 attack double berserk your dead, completely took away the fun of the tournament.

Nice against como meta -game , prepared against ichorid in side board. It's easy to get survival inside with a 1st turn discard.
Academy Rector-Rec.Nightmare gets the deck get fast to beat the oponent with witness, recurring sliver or hierarch against aggro.
I tested this deck and its good. have to test diabolic edict on sideboard to face progenitus. Or maybe Circle of protection/runed halo?? (tutoreable via rector)
So, how many people here played survival at the GP? I made day 2, and I know that there were at least 2 matches that I lost due to serious play mistakes, and I did lose to a turn 3 double berserk on Woolly ThoctarSo, all in all, I believe that survival was a great choice for the GP.
Playing Recurring Nightmare Shriekmaw is a beast, but last days I noticed FLESHBAG MARAUDER was needed against Progenitus... is the best a 1/1 Split?
Thoughts
I'm curious, are you running BGH if you've included maurader? What does your creature destruction suit look like? (Masticore, BGH, Shriekmaw, Fleshbag, Flametongue). Does anyone believe Fleshbag is more effective than BGH? What are the pros and cons of these creatures besides the obvious (BGH fetches to survival)?
I would def. play the 3 black creatures over FTK if you don't want a full 5 dedicated removal slots. I have to test Fleshbag, but it seems like it might be good.
I currently run 4 Swords to Plowshares, 1 Shriekmaw, and 1 Fleshbag Marauder. I don't run Masticore because he's way too much of a mana sink to do too little. I don't run Flametongue Kavu because I don't like to be dependent on red mana to cast spells (I run a 4C Survival where Red's strictly for Anger-haste and possibly TSH). And I don't run Big Game Hunter because I'm out of slots, but I want to sneak him in.
That said, if I'm picking two of the three, I'd rather have Fleshbag and Shriekmaw, because between the two of them, there isn't much I'm not going to be able to answer somehow. For example, if I have just Shriekmaw and BGH, I can't fetch an answer to Dark Confidant. And if I have BGH and Fleshbag Marauder, I can have serious trouble with things like Sower of Temptation.
EDIT: FWIW, I've been doing a lot of testing with a pair of Elvish Spirit Guides maindeck, and I sort of like it. It's nice to be able to drop turn one Survivals, dodge Daze, and be able to lead with both a Birds and a Thoughtseize on turn one. Turn one Teeg/Canonist is also nice against combo. It's helped considerably to make the deck not just a hair too slow to deal with a few problems. That said, occasionally they do show up when not needed. So I'll keep you guys posted.
