Hello again ;)
I have been quietly plotting my next big legacy tournament. It took me a while to figure out exactly how to follow-up my birthday tourney, but I believe this is a worthy successor.
So without further ado...

9-12th will receive prize if 40 people show. 13-16th will receive prize if 48 show.
Trades are fine, but please no excessive inventory. Luggage/Suitcases/bags full of excess trade are not permitted. Also the only buying/selling allowed in the store is at the counter (with me :p). Anyone breaking these rules will be asked to leave.
The rel level is competitive, but the emphasis on this tourney (and all my tourneys) is fun. So try to have fun =D
I'm looking forward to this very much. You guys made the last one great and I have no doubt this one will be even better.
Thanks as always.

I enjoy your tournaments a lot and intend no offense by this, but 4th gets boned pretty hard in the prize department.
I said to myself since I missed your Bday tournament I'd make your next big tournament. Also, being after my own Bday doesn't hurt. Looking forward to checking out the new shop.

The first chance for winning a bye to this event is this Thursday.
Thanks again for the interest.

Should be here, maybe with uncle and dad but I dunno.
Call me Ishmael
Sanctioned + byes? Those don't mix. I'm guessing it's not sanctioned.
“It's possible. But it involves... {checks archives} Nature's Revolt, Opalescence, two Unstable Shapeshifters (one of which started as a Doppelganger), a Tide, an animated land, a creature with Fading, a Silver Wyvern, some way to get a creature into play in response to stuff, some way to get a land into play in response to stuff (a different land from the animated land), and one heck of a Rube Goldberg timing diagram.”

Sounds like a good tourney, you can count me in. Sad face on no sanctioning though if that is the case.
You'd be guessing wrong. It's sanctioned.
There's nothing in the floor rules prohibiting awarding byes at smaller tournaments to bigger events.
Just to be safe I called the WPN and not only did they approve of my awarding byes to the Mega Legacy, they agreed it was a creative way to help promote the store and my upcoming events.
My tournaments are always by the book.
Please do a little research before posting stuff like this.
Thanks.

I recently got some new inventory, and that let me bump base prizes a little more.
Fourth place has been changed from 1 Trop to 2 Bayou.
Third/Fourth will still playoff to determine who gets the Volcs and who gets the Bayous.
Keep in mind these are just base prizes listed in my original post, and they will scale according to attendance... so show up and bring friends ;)
Thanks again.

Yes, there is - you're explicitly not allowed to award byes to a sanctioned tournament except in special circumstances pre-approved by the DCI.
I hope you can see the potential for abuse in awarding byes, which is why people are usually not allowed to do it.
Now, they might be loosening the policy, but if they are I am not aware of it and neither are the multiple L3+ judges I asked.
In your case, "the WPN" seems to have given you permission, so I guess it's on their head if it turns out you're not supposed to be awarding byes. There's some chance "the WPN" is some custserv yahoo who doesn't know what the heck he's talking about, though. I'm going to be e-mailing the judge manager today so I'll ask him about the subject.

FWIW, there was a tournament in Seattle about six months ago run by a local TO and an L3. They were going to award round one byes through feeders before finding out they couldn't, and ended up not sanctioning the event.
When in doubt, mumble.
When in trouble, delegate.
I understand the potential for abuse, but I've always been responsible with byes.
I hope you can see that making statements like 'byes and sanctioned don't mix' and then stating my tournament 'is probably unsanctioned' is irresponsible and potentially harmful because you're just making assumptions based on incomplete information.
My tournament is sanctioned and approved by WOTC. That's all that matters.

I am "making assumptions" based on my knowledge of DCI policy, of which I have considerable experience. I apologize if it came off rudely, but as far as I'm aware what you're planning to do/have been doing violates policy.

Well what you're 'aware of' does not constitute everything under DCI policy.
Just please be more responsible before making posts like that, because as a level two judge you have more influence than a random poster would.
I am cleared to run this event as sanctioned. End of story.

Unfortunately, I have confirmed that awarding byes is not allowed. I sent you a PM.

Why can't you just not tell the DCI that you are awarding byes? I'm sure it's illegal by DCI terms but I'm sure it happens a lot and the event is sanctioned anyway.

There should be a beta Force of Nature in the prize pot to commemorate the date.
I'm coming to this with at least one more... maybe two.
