While I was in Japan, the prices for cards were pretty high, but not at the price you'd see on ebay. Then again I didn't go to any hole in the wall shops, just the Yellow Submarine in Akihabara (and I'm sure that'd be the most expensive place to buy cards).
People who sell in the states know that us suckers are willing to pay more for foreign cards, so they intentionally jack up the prices to insane amounts, hoping somebody will purchase them. I would suggest checking out MOTL - you can usually find decent deals there if you are willing to buy from an unsanctioned site.
Here is an example showing the difference between 7th and 8th cities as well as japanese and russian. As I said before you would save a lot of money by getting later printings of cards. For things like pithing needle there is no difference in card frame or art. Just the fact that sok is rarer and worth 2-3 times as much.
Did they have a good collection of foils?
Some more TES cards arrived as did a TfK that is going into my highlander deck. I swear that sometime soon I will post my highlander deck. I always postpone it because I have new cards for it in the mail, but this is a never-ending cycle so soon I will post it.

in NM or better condition, A/B duals (especially alpha IMO and considering my experience so far) are "awfully" (!) difficult to find.
I made better scans of mine, the hardest one to find was the pack fresh volcanic
I've heard horror stories of Poole ruining Ancestral Recalls and stuff. Does anyone have any examples of Poole ruining a card? I've never actually seen it.Get it signed
