How many Mana Drains does ninth get?

I'd hate to get just the 1 mox seeing as the sea's and goyfs are comparable and you get a 2nd pick, prizes may need some re-working.

Good to see you're planning to go to this. It looks like some good practice for the GP.

The cut 32 cutoff seems odd. So is it 5/6 rounds then cut and 5 more rounds or how does that work out? Seeing as this is in the same area as Jupiter Games with a great prize support across the field a comparably turnout should at least be expected, so I'm marking my calender. I would also look forward to seeing Eli sling some Legacy spells.

I'll be there slinging spells I can promise you that =). My last tournament with comparable prizes to this one had about 172 people and that was at the beginning of the legacy explosion, I bet you this tournament see's upwards of 150 easy.

This is also a great opportunity for P.t.G. to get on the good side of players with the format gaining popularity. It'll be at the new location, so this is a good way to start fresh.

Take this opportunity Rob to really make folks happy. Granted, the prizes are great, but cordiality will go a long way in determining attendance for future events. I'll definitely be there.

I second Hollywood on that one, big time. Money does not make up for everything, but it is a good start ;).

I'm really excited for this event. And since the normal 70+ PTG tournament is run at five rounds, prizes by top eight standings, this one will probably be done (with a realistic starting time of 1 or 2 PM) by six thirty at the latest. Dinner at chili's and the Virginians can be on their way home by eight.

Well assuming none of your team makes the top 32, your plan sounds like it would work great! But I wouldn't suggest going to Chili's, since your collective asshole is already burning from being raped at Magic. =P

Seriously, the first post mentions that there will be 4 individual playoffs to determine the top 32 spots with prize drafting afterwards, so if 1 guy in your car makes it everyone has to wait around for 3 untimed rounds and prize drafting before you can leave. Adjust your plans accordingly.

Clearly you've never been to an event at PTG. The staff is so kind that they'll speed along the tournament, without consulting judges or players. Some might complain that it appears to be for the staff's personal gain, but I for one enjoy a tournament one, two, or even three rounds shorter than it should be.

And don't even get me started on PTG's radical prize structure. They're so interested in promoting the format that they reward players who didn't even make the top eight! For instance, at the last big event they hosted third through eighth got packs (third and fourth getting a box, and in varying degrees of lower prizes from there on). And ninth and tenth place? Mana Drains! Isn't that clutch? I hope that more stores adopt this progressive way of giving out prizes.

Also, go fuck yourself. Chili's is the only place that I've ever seen a waitress stare blank-eyed and open-mouthed while Friendly Phil Stolze put other's orders on the stack and got his down first. Which was a classic move.

    hahah just playing dude.

I guess it depends...the biggest tournaments I've been to were at Jupiter Games, so the size is likely comparable. But with playoffs, you can't expect a huge tournament that starts at 1 PM to be over at 6:30. And I'm not complaining about the prizes, I think they're awesome and I'm excited for them.

Zach is being a troll. The last few events run by PTGRTS have had some... complications... that have been maligned by players and judges alike. Whether they were correct in their dissent or not is beside the point.

Having that many seperate playoffs seems ... absurd to say the least time wise. Everyone has to wait for people before them to finish to properly draft prizes? Seems especially odd given sanctioned/competitive REL event.

Will not be in attendance for this one. Am looking forward to good reviews from people who go to sway me to show up in the future.

Well, seeing as the prizes trickle down who knows what is going to get picked by the top 8? The way it looks several non-blue duals will drop to 9th place so what if the 9th place guy grabs a Badlands and leaves, sticking the guy who finishes 7th and needs them to not be offered the choice. I guess he could make a deal for them with 9th but we can assume if they're going to pick early, they're trying to leave early as well so trading won't work.

If they cut to top 8 and do standings for 9-32, it's still 3 rounds, and the playoffs are independent of each other, so if the finals finish before the lower brackets, they can start the prize drafting and leave.

Also, the other alternative is a top 32 playoff, which is 5 extra rounds and would almost certainly take longer than 4 individual 3-round brackets.

I have another solution which is what I do at my tournaments. The store offers to buy anyones picks in the draft, I believe at the last event the buyout rate was $130 or if they were only getting 1 pick they could choose the booster box option. This way the players could leave as soon as playoffs start if their not in them.

This seems like a great payout and it looks like its going to be a good turnout, you can count 5 ppl in from the lower ontario region.

whats your policy on artist altered cards going to be for this tournament?

In case you are unfamiliar wizards has a page on their site dedicated to what is and isn't acceptable but ultimately it is up to the head judge/T.O.. They suggest allowing cards that have the name intact + (the original picture or the text box).

Alternatively, you could run the tournament one or two rounds short, but cut to a top 16 or 32, which would take as long as top 8...

The event will be run with x rounds of swiss based on attendance, with cut to 4 separate single elimination playoffs, players 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, and 25-32. These will all be timed, semis: 60 mins, quarters: 90 mins, finals: 120mins.
