@cdr/Hollywood: By all accounts Liam (lorddotm) was acting immature (and head judge Phil properly gave him a warning for it), but the phrase "You got it" after a Silence gets countered is much less obvious of a concession than someone scooping, regardless of the board state. So if he told the Judge "my opponent conceded," that's an understandable explanation from his point of view, given the confusion. It also doesn't sound like he pressed for the game loss (in fact I know he agreed with the ruling, even though he lost the game), so I don't see how this could possibly be fraud.
QFT. Lesson learned the hard way.
Though it's obvious I didn't like how game 3 went, I want to clear up game 2 because of the comments being posted. I doubt there was anything illegal going on in game 2, just pure miscommunication. I played him in the prior round and he used the phrase "you got it" for my spells resolving too. I don't think Kevin thought he was trying to cheat either. Lesson learned for Kevin, never scoop up all your cards until you 100% confirmed the win.
Okay so, I had no intention of winning that game off of a game ruling. Phil asked my right after the match about it and what I though about it. I thought, and still do think, that the ruling was extremely fair. I lost the game regardless, nothing I can do about that.
One thing I do want to say is this:
This incident is by no means a reflection of the usual scene at Knight Ware. There is rarely any issues at this store, if any. In all honesty this was the first "issue" I've ever seen here. I personally did not think I offended anyone, but apparently I did, and for that I am sorry Kevin. Do I disagree with you not confronting me after the match and saying how you thought I was being a "douchenozzle" and instead going to flame me on the internet, yes. But once again, I am sorry for potentially ruining your tournament experience, that was not my intention.
I have a few comments here. One, he got to show off his deck, game 3 was really tight play by me. He could've stabilized but I Wiped Away his answer and then Chanted him for a turn.
Also. The typical nerd does not rock two tattoos from Crass and Immortal Technique. Magic would be a lot more interesting if more Punks played it.
Good Report Kevin I Look forward to seeing you at more tournaments
I don't think he was trying to cheat but the fact that he claimed that I was trying to scoop to him made me pretty angry. Lesson definitely learned.Originally Posted by PanderAlexander
Liam, I did not confront you about your behavior at KnightWare for several reasons.
1. Prior to our game, I had never met you before. If you were someone that I was at least somewhat acquainted with, believe me, I would have let you known.
2. I was upset with your behavior in Game 3 (even if it wasn't your intention to do so) thus making me not want to speak with someone who would not give his opponent even the smallest amount of courtesy.
I've pretty much gotten over what happened though. It's all good.
Thanks for the support guys.
LA people are funny. Sounds like you all need some cali bud and a beer. Also, Rockets >> Lakers
In general being a nice guy in anything is always a good thing. I read the report, though countertop may seem like a difficult beast to pilot, it gets easier after some time. Stick with it, good finish! I can see going to time was a problem, once you get better at countertop, games will finish faster and hard decisions will slowly become more obvious and become "snap decisions" once you are familiar with the matchup. Anyway, nice guys do finish last and being "hated" out of a playing community is a pretty bad tradeoff for winning a tournament or two. Being on tilt has alot to do with expectations from others and also yourself. I have to admit just taking it easy and joking stuff off will make your plays more relaxed as well as helping you make better decisions. I usually like to take the night off (totally no magic) the day before a big tournament because:
A) you should already be familiar with any deck you are bringing to a tournament
B) Finalizing card changes last minute and regretting this and that during the tournament is a bitch
C) Always have sideboard plans somewhere in you head already. Don't decide during the tournament
Good read! Your card slot changes are pretty natural, I like that you are playing more counterspells in this meta (which I believe is the right call). Did you like clique? I've found him pretty average at best. Cheers!
Nerds come in many different shapes and forms... some with edgier tattoos than others.
Indeed.

Solid Report, Kevin. That fifth round loss was really tough. The whole day was pretty tough, with me beating abysmal matchups and losing to some easy ones. In that game 1 i think I got manabon out early then your CB lock countered all the explorations, etc I tried to cast later on. You made a pair of goyfs but i drew three mazes. In hindsight, I think the only thing I should have/could have done differently was reserve my tolaria west. I transmuted for Boseiju very early (think the second or third turn) before I even had any instants or sorceries, and of course I didn't see intuition or loam the whole game. if I had waited, then maybe I could have used that later on for a coliseum or to put together a bomb lock. But that's how it goes. Sometimes, Force is with you and sometimes its not.
Also, i'm very surprised you took out any of your CB's...though I suppose after seeing that I had main deck Boseiju, you probably figured the lock wouldn't get you far. More often, swords is boarded out, but I think you knew that I run confidants.
