Next time I'd like to have 4 Tropicals (could borrow only 3), 2 sea+2bayou and I rly need to find a slot in MD for a Eternal Witness.
In SB I'm cutting out NOPRO. I need protection, so i thought of perhaps a two or 3 missdirections. Quite not sure yet, or loam+witness+volrath's.
There is a chance that I cut out Recs put in 3 living wishes and have a toolbox in sideboard.
anyone got yesterday's decklist?
it was a pretty odd list with firespout, go for the throat etc in sb.
and he had too few green mana/forests
What i said :)
one more card wich does cost you extra mana when you are in combo, 2 mana could be possible and the effekt would be really nice, but i'm skeptic. pls share your experience with that. There is a chance that I cut out Recs put in 3 living wishes and have a toolbox in sideboard.
I played it when I had 4 birds and 3 magus of vineyard... I could go off as soon as t2, but back in time I didn't have oracle.
And still I think Manowar>>Oracle.
I'm willing to try a build with wall of roots + wall of blossoms, but I'm scepctic about it.
3 living wishes means we have 15 slots free in SB for utility. Against dredge we have Bojuka bog. imagine the possibilities!
I'm thinking of cutting out 1 creature for Eternal Witness, and adding 4 glitaxian probe + 4 cabal therapy.
This deck has been super tight on space for years.
There's no room for the do-nothing Gitaxian Probe.
I agree the deck has been super-tight for quite some time. There is some space now that we have Strix, but not enough to run probe. I would run Mental Misstep or ponder before probe.
Here is my old list, which could stand to be updated, but still serves me well. The main changes at this point I want to make would be to drop the ponder count down (due to MM) and add in another 2 Lim-Dul's vault and maybe 1 raven familiar or sea-gate oracle, or selkie. The mana base would need an additional swamp-producer as well.
Is it just me or are Red elemental blasts and Pernicious Deed looking pretty hot in the SB right now?

SB: 3 Krosan Grip
SB: 1 Harmonic Sliver
SB: 1 Rishadan Cutpurse
SB: 1 Stern Proctor
SB: 1 Bone Shredder
SB: 3 Inquisition of Kozilek
I'm about to cut 2 intuitions (2 are more than enough), arctic merfolk is not good, as are BOP.
Try upping to 4 coiling oracle - the card is a miracle. And I'd cut out my balls before I'd play stinky MM in this gem of a deck. No need for it - you don't care for 1 drops and you don't have any 1 drops (except bstorm+therapy in your build) to be afraid of.
Deed is shite in sb, didnt try blast tho.
i'd cut out sea gate, arctic and try to up to atleast 3 raven familiar, you can even hardcast it. In your build 4 recs are fine (lots of silver bullets) but I've learned that 3 are perfect, since you don't want it anywhere near the deck before its time to go off.
Imho - too many setup spells, not enough business.
Rath - I like the build, and have played something very similar for a while. I have a few different tweaks, and play bone shredder and harmonic sliver main, instead of the wall of blossoms and the arctic merfolk. I also have 2 dream stalker instead of 1:1 stalker / man'o'war - although I'd love to fit a man'o'war in.
I've also been thinking on REB in the board, as it does seem strong now - although frequntly thoughtsieze is as good and more on colour.
If I should run some double mana lands, I'd really play Havenwood Battleground or Hickory Woodlot instead, since normally Aluren is very mana hungry. Those lands are also pretty good at dodging Daze if your meta is full of Merfolks.
Anyway, 21 lands seems fine, I always played with 21 (without Bops).
Are you into Jazz? Have a look at the Lp's I have for sale on Discogs!
Yes it does. You need 4 mana to go off with a recruiter version and with 4 BoP you can achieve that quite quickly. The main problem is WHICH 4 mana you need *grin* Usually you want access to 1 red, 1 blue, 2 green and 1 black... which is 4 colours from your 4 land, necessitating a lot of duals and fetches. Older builds ran 4 wall of roots to ensure access to the green required for aluren and for access to the spike feeder 'combo'. Hickory woodlot is actually pretty solid in this deck.
@swoop
Anyways, I agree there is an update of the creatures required. I have been thinking of dropping down to 1 dream stalker, 1 man o war (arctic merfolk was nice, but unnecessary) and upping the raven familiars. However, in my mind they are also set-up spells (with echo to boot). I like 4 recruiters though as having one is so key when you get an aluren out finally. But 4 oracles is definitely something to consider!
More Harpies are awesome aswell, since you can easily dodge more stuff with few hapries, or use one to fish out a counter.
I'm very happy with 21 lands including 3 city of traitors, but gotta have 4 bop as well, else it ain't gonna work.
I'm not.. no chance in hell to go off in t2, so why point in packing city of traitors at all?
Playing recruiters I've happily (albeit not commonly) killed on turn 2. But it makes t3 very realistic, improves playing round daze, enables t2 intuition for a t3 kill. Possibly most importantly is the threat of a quick kill. It pushes people to act under more pressure than they might be. Do you leave mana open T2/3 for counter magic, or can you tap out knowing nothing really bad is going to happen? Can you drop a threat or keep up mana for k'grip? I like the sol lands, but I like my aluren very combo flavoured.
t1 bop, t2 tomb, go? dunno.. don't like bops at all.
Aluren, play Raven Familiar, land land BoP, yeah...
BoP is a card wich does nothing in the combo, with recruiter this might be less important.
With recruiters, the only thing you need in your hand when you land Aluren is 1 recruiter (or an intuition to find one)... that's it. Then you go rec -> rec -> rec -> dream stalker -> bounce rec -> harpy -> profit!
*of course, I am assuming you stripped their hand as you just landed Aluren*
This is why you play recruiters, it opens up quite a number of slots to allow you to play cards for more disruption / more speed / more protection / etc. Hence why BoP is used sometimes, it provides more speed and access to mana of multiple colours (wall of roots used to be used, but was too slow for a while). Playing recruiter gives you a set of cards which can be subbed out depending on the meta. Your core is the combo (4 Aluren, 4 recruiters, 1 dream stalker, 1 harpy, 1 strix, 1 witness) + Search (3-4 intuition, 4 Brainstorm, 1-2 ponder/vault) + protection (4 therapy, 4 FoW). The rest is important, but more malleable.
Around 40 pages ago, we assumed not everyone has 4 pieces of 150$ cards, so what we mostly do is:
a) assume we all have recs (proxy or not)
b) make next best thing builds
I'm gonna go with this on my next sanctioned legacy tourney:
4 Tropical Island
2 Underground Sea
2 Bayou
4 Misty Rainforest
2 Verdant Catacombs
2 Delta
2 Forest
2 Island
1 Swamp
4 Brainstorm
4 Force of Will
4 Aluren
3 Glitaxian Probe
3 Cabal Therapy
3 Lim dul's Vault
2 Intuition
4 Raven Familiar
2 Man-o-war
1 Eternal Witness
1 Parasitic Strix
4 Cavern Harpy
4 Coiling Oracle
SB:
3 Chain of Vapor
3 Pernicious Deed
3 Autmn's Veil
3 Xantid Swarm
3 Krosan Grip
I like it for now.
