Wizards likes creatures. ETB dudes are all the rage now, SFM will keep getting better. BTW what are your thoughts on Snappy's preorder price? 25 USD??? It's insane. Remember how GSZ was preordering for like 12 USD or something like that. I can grab GSZs for 5 bucks easy from players at the LGS, there are just too many of them around. I am 100% sure snappy will eventually drop to some where along the lines of 10-12 USD. It's ridiculous how much preorder hype has driven it's price up. Once everyone has a playset, it'll settle IMO.
I preordered a set of Snapcasters for 30 bucks, and with them reaching ridiculous prices I feel like I should sell them while the iron is hot. Someone give me a super reassuring internet high five to tell me that I'm making the right decision to dump them now for 80 bucks.
I figure if/when they reach the $20-30 range like Bob did, it will take many years for that to happen. In four years when Snapcaster is long out of print and perhaps a staple in Modern or Legacy, that's when his price will go above 10-15. So getting 80 for them now seems like the right move...
Edit: Unless someone knows a friend who will trade me a foil set of Lotus Cobras outright for a set of Snapcasters? Lol, worth a shot
Green Suns Zenith was also in one of the tournament deck things that they made. It's in the one that didn't have Stoneforge Mystic in it. That also hurt the value of the card.
On a comparison shopping note, Zendikar fetch lands were preordering around $20 and could be had before worldwake came out for $5-8 on ebay. I don't see snapcaster mage going THAT low, but I see him dipping into the $8-12 range once the initial surge is gone UNLESS the new DTB for standard plays a set of him. It wouldn't surprise me if it did, but it would still create a higher demand for him in that regard. Honestly, I'm waiting out the $10 mages. I think that's a good price for him.
Whenever I see a kid in a wheelchair it makes me a little sad. Because I always think, "Gee, they could have used those same wheels to make a bike for a regular kid. What a waste."
Snapcasters seem way high for a non-Mythic rare. Stoneforge Mystic went up to $20, but it was played like crazy in Standard to the point that it got banned. Will Snapcaster see more play in Standard than SFG did? I kind of doubt it. I don't think it wil even see more play in Legacy than SFM. I predict that the initial demand for Snapcaster will die in a few months and it will settle around the $12-15 area.
I see more than others do because I know where to look.
Riptide Lab has been creeping up for a week or two, but it's breaking 10$ now, which seems... exaggerated?
shitty card just got better by wizards printing some other shit?
PTT (Formerly of MTT) - We make Champion
Maybe it used to be shitty, but that's what happens when you have a card like Riptide Lab, every time they print a wizard with a powerful etb/ltb effect it gets better. You'd be saying the exact same thing had they printed SFM in Mirrodin block. It would not have been a great card back then but every time wizards makes a new powerful equipment, SFM gets better.
I expect Snapcaster Mage to go down fairly quickly, simply because although it's really good, there's not much room for it in current decks. I just hope to be able to trade my playset for SFMs before then. =)

Well, you should probably wait until you have them in hand otherwise are you 100% sure the person will actually send you Mages at this point? I mean they obviously don't have them in hand so they are going to have to crack boxes or trade for them @ 20+ a piece. Unless it is a major store they might just take the negative on their Ebay go down .05% on their feedback and not take a $60 loss on that. I have to assume anyone preselling cards that early in the game is only in it for the money and would easily be more willing to take a small hit to their rep than take a $60 loss in their wallet.

I think you mean get rid of them for $10 while you still can, unless you think paying 3UUX where X is the cmc is a good deal for what is basically a 4 card combo where you have to have Mage + Riptide Lab + 2x cards worth flashing back in your graveyard. Sounds like the definition of "win more" to me and you have to play Riptide Lab which seems suboptimal unless we are maybe talking one for late game reach.

Riptide works with Sprite and Clique, but that never saw any competitive play outside of an Extended deck once upon a time. Riptide will drop for sure. But it is somewhat played in EDH.

Ehm, you are aware that once you have Mage+Laboratory, u can play each instant/sorcery once more? You basically get a machine that recycles everything - sure its 2 Mana for bounce and then 2 Mana to replay mage BUT let's not forget what it then does. Take for example Academy Ruins - tell me what it does is cheaper.
Sure Snapcaster interacts nicely with Laboratory, but so does Spellstutter Sprite. That interaction never made a huge dent on the format, and Spellstutter is cheapter than Snapcaster+flashback cost.
I see more than others do because I know where to look.
Well,
It is probably the only ripped in half beta black lotus in the world. Noone else has the guts to increase the population of those cards so because it is a rarity, people pay more than we would think was rational.
In truth, that is the most rediculous price paid for a card I have seen in a long time.
But Spellstutter is way more limited. When u play UWx, u allreay will have a Brainstorm/StP/Ponder to flashback, which all is really useable. And ofcourse, having Spellstutter AND Mage makes this even more flexible - i see more potential to it having both.Sure Snapcaster interacts nicely with Laboratory, but so does Spellstutter Sprite. That interaction never made a huge dent on the format, and Spellstutter is cheapter than Snapcaster+flashback cost.
Decks that I care about:
Steel Stompy
UWx Landstill
Dreadstalker
DDFT (10% practice)
Mangara on MWS? You must be masochistic. -kiblast
