I decided to play this instead of Doomsday and did pretty well, ending up in 81st. 'Twas a very nice experience. I'll probably write a report tomorrow.

Onslaught has the better frame and art as well as being worth more. Or are you in fact saying that the onslaught version is better and I'm wasting time making this post?

On the dim. returns rulings, do you announce the number of cards you're going to draw before you draw them or do you decide while drawing them? I was under the impression that you drew each card individually and chose when to stop unless you got to 7 cards. Although I admit I may be wrong on this, because I rarely cast diminishing returns in general unless I absolutely need to since I never rip the nuts/kill off of it.

I was watching a match where a judge was called over for the ruling on this. Ultimately the judge said that the player who cast the spell would announce how many cards they plan on drawing and then the opponent does the same the player then draws the specified amount of cards and then the opponent draws the amount of cards they specified to draw. So no you cannot draw a card and decide to stop at 5 because you can finish going off. You must draw the exact number of cards that you announce.

Thanks! You're not the only one who liked it; Bryant really, really liked my shirt.

Yep, that judge call occurred during my match versus Matt Costa. It stemmed from a call the previous day my round five opponent had concerning Diminishing Returns. My opponent didn't know whether or not it was correct to draw cards individually and then choose to stop at a certain point or to choose a number and then draw said number. I couldn't 100% confirm either way (though I thought we were supposed to announce and then draw), so he called a judge to clarify. The judge that was summoned ruled that we would draw cards individually until we chose to stop. It seemed odd to me, but I didn't appeal, and we went through with it. It ended up being the only DR I cast during the GP that didn't whiff (just so you know, we both ended up drawing seven, so I didn't get a somewhat illegal win by seeing something like Lotus Petal, Dark Rit, Dark Rit, Dark Rit, IT as the first five cards. Also, even though it was the only DR that didn't whiff, it wasn't the only game where I both won and cast Diminishing Returns; more on that tomorrow). The next day, I cast it against Matt and told him of the previous day's ruling as we were shuffling up. He wanted confirmation and called a judge, who determined after a quick council with some other judges that we would announce the number we would draw first in APNAP order, and then commence with the drawing.

That shirt was the worst. There's not too many things worse than Nickleback.

Congrats on the finish, I'm looking forward to your report.

I'm in the middle of rewriting the opening post, for the most part a lot of the information will remain the same. But there will be plenty of new information, sample hands, links, etc.

What I'm asking is would people prefer a new thread and to archive this one or continue along with this one? You have until Thursday night at Midnight to come to a decision. That's when my GP article should be released and the new opening post will contain information from it.

Edit: Yes, I double posted. Deal with it.

I think it's time for a new thread. Taking out clutter and refining the primer sounds awesome. (Yes, I still lurk here, I do try to Grapeshot people every once in a blue moon )

And it wouldn't be too hard to protect him in counter-heavy build.

A new thread sounds good. I've been hassling you to overhaul the opening post, so I'm glad that you've seen the light.

If you do make a new thread, please add a link to this thread in the opening post on the new one, and change the name of this thread to include "(ARCHIVED)" or something like that. Get the moderators to lock it.

I vote for a new thread, gets rid of the mystical tutor and misstep content, which doesn't matter much at all. Except to tell people that mystical tutor is overrated

Aside from the new thread in question, what are peoples thoughts on Hull Breach vs. Shattering Spree?

Hull Breach is nice because it takes care of enchantments too but I would run Shattering Spree because you can hit multiple targets and it is more resilient to counters.

Re: [Deck] T.E.S - The EPIC Storm

When is Hull Breach mana available where Spree mana is not? That probably means an open Petal/Mine instead of more permanent sources of red mana. Which is more relevant?

I have no preference. I'm just curious. I'm still playing Spree for a reason, but I've had the thought cross my mind.

I am running meltdown, but if I wasn't I would run spree, hull breach seems bad

Meltdown is terrible. In a deck with 12 artifacts you run the risk of destroying your own. This is not ideal.
