Jitte still seems fine in the side to me. Its ability to kill small creatures is relavent in many matchups, and its ability to do so while dodging mother of runes is certainly relavent in the Maverick and D&T matchups.

Thanks thecrav. Does the rest of the above list seem ok?

    So a possible sideboard
    2 jitte
    3 relic
    2 pithing needle
    2 Kira
    2 echoing truth?
    2 spreading seas?
    2 dismember?

Would be niceto know how much impact the Tidebinder Mages had from the board.
I also find it interesting that it is a vial@2 list with no Reejerey; So you never have to think about bumping vial up again.

Of note is the fact that both the 5th and 16th place Merfolk decks had 3 Back to Basics in the sideboard and I would expect they had a lot of impact given the current trend in manabases.
My Legacy Decks of choice: Pox, Miracles, D&T or Lands.

Played Legacy Champs sideevent at GP Rimini, 100+ people. I just acquired a set of Tradebinder Mages and was wandering if I should play them main.
After 7 rounds of green decks (!!!) I was cursing at not doing it.

Played against 3 infect decks (yeah...) and it was not a bad matchup because I play Dismembers main, Gut Shots and Submerges side and Pithing Needle for Spellskite or Nexus.
Won against two of them. Then came number three. I mull to five, he plays Forest Noble Hierarch; Island Vial; he plays Forest and attack, Invigorate, Invigorate, Berserk, Berserk...
then apologized and took a picture of ridiculous board state. He killed me on turn 2 with regular 36 dmg with infect deck...

Lost another two matches to Punishing Jund, not surprising. Just wish I played some combo decks to have better record than 4:3.

It's only 30 damage, since you gain 6 life from Invigorates. ;-)
But yes, that is pretty rediculous. Tidebinder Mage would not have helped you there either.

I don't play much Merfolk, but I want to some time and I have all the cards except for Phantasmal Images.
Are they still mandatory now with the new Legend rules, and all?

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

The Minneapolis list is trash, I was trying to figure out what was missing and didn't realize it was Reej for awhile cuz it's such a ludicrous omission.

Coralhelm's purpose is flying over fat green creatures, and for that purpose he too has gotta be worse than MD Tidebinder.

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

Next time I go Fishin' I may run a list something like this:

    Merfolk

    4 Lord of Atlantis
    4 master of pearl trident
    4 merrow reejerey
    3 coralhelm commander
    4 silvergill adept
    4 cursecatcher
    2 phantasmal image

    4 force of will
    2 spell pierce
    4 daze
    2 dismember

    4 aether vial

    3 mutavault
    2 cavern of souls
    4 Wasteland
    11 island

    Side
    4 tidebinder mage
    2 spreading seas
    1 spell pierce
    4 submerge
    2 surgical extraction
    2 relic of progenitus

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

I like the standstills and maybe dismember and 1 daze out, dismember into the sideboard and drop surgical? Possibly? :)

Thats a lot of submerge and tidebinder.

i think you can go 3/3. drop a coralhelm commander and the spell pierces for standstills.

that will free up some sideboard slots for more pierces.

Well, it wasn't funny and I will use that "objective" measure to play 4 Tradebinders main until enough practice prove me wrong
(it will be 2/2 for 2 in many matches but other merfolks all also duds in certain matchups, like Cursecatcher vs goblins, other than blocking Lackey, or Reejerey vs combo).
The only problem I have with gr hating merfolk is its art

Perhaps it is a bit overkill, but I was curious how much that would help with poor matcups such as Jund, Elves and Maverick. I feel the maindeck is good against combo and control and other blue and blue-splash decks, other than Esperblade which is still troublesome. Maybe if I went 3 Tidebinder and 3 Submerge then the board then the other two slots freed up could be for two more Dismember to help with above matchups plus SFM, Confidant.

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

I keep trying to wrap my head around boarding when you play against either other standstill and/or aether vial. I play with x3 standstill and have been trying to think of an alternate draw method in the board or if I should just forgo a draw method and just work more beats in.

Right now I am thinking a 1cc cantrip ponder or gitaxian probe.

    Edit:
I was also curious if anyone has tried Saprazzan Legate. A free flyer against goblins and any R/X/X deck.

I was also thinking about answers to goblins and maverick. Would gut shot might be viable? It fits the curve (0 mana) and takes care of a good chunk of trick creatures.

    Couple other ideas with changelings.

Mothdust Changeling could be a cheap answer for the need of evasion/delver issues

Shapesharer is good against Emrakul in that you show and tell their turn activate his ability on yours and swing.

Just spitballin and seeing if anything sticks :P

I've been having trouble with that too. Usually, I'm depending on Silvergill/Standstill to be my draw engines, although in some cases Spreading Seas can do the trick. It's especially potent when dealing with a Cavern of Souls or Karakas, which happen to be staples of decks that run Aether Vial.

I haven't tried Saprazzan Legate yet, although I'm considering swapping out my Waterfront Bouncers so I can try it this weekend. Thing is, I feel like I'm so far behind in matches against Jund or Goblins that I'm not sure it's worth it.

Gut Shot sounds like the best way to deal with a pesky Mother of Runes, Piledriver, or Deathrite Shaman. I think I'll try that this weekend, too.

Sadly gut shot doesn't deal with Any of those :/

Changeling plan? Possibly? More threat sense seems good against some MU's

Can you elaborate on gut shot. I know its not optimal but you can get it on mom when she is cast or tapped. I do concede a bit on goblins though, once they have pumps out it won't do anything but it still has the potential early game against lackey/piledriver.

    Edit:
I totally spaced delver as well.

    Re: [Deck] Merfolk

He meant piledriver and Deathrite shaman have 2 toughness so they laugh at gut shot. Mother is hit or miss depending if you draw it in time.
I feel like dismember does the job better for the most part. It costs 1 and 4 life but kills basically everything.
