My preparations for BoM9 is going better than I'd hoped for. 5-1'ing one of the local tourney's yesterday, I beat Team America, some RUG variant, Storm, BUG Control and 4-color Delver, while losing to Death and Taxes....

Damn it sucks to lose to a mulligan to 4 :/

How many are going to Bazaar of Moxen, next week? :)

Whats the opinion on the singleton Great Furnace? I've been thinking if it really is that necessary, could be worth running another plateau or even singleton plains just in case of blood moon.

For what it's worth, I put one in. I see no harm in running it as a 1-of. Good synergy with Goblin Welder. However, null rod hits it and it is one less mountain for Koth.

Full disclosure: I am new to this deck. Hopefully someone with more experience can shed some light on this. I was actually this myself when I was first putting the deck together.

Edit: I also run a singleton plains. Again, I am not sure this is right. If you have a moon effect out, you should be stalling the same pretty successfully and there souldn't be and pressing need for white mana.

I put 1 great furnace in because a) it's great with welder b) sometimes you want an uncounterable artifact to tutor for and c) sometimes you really just want to make a land drop.

Seth and I are also brewing up a blue splash Dack list. He is what tibalt should have been but no, mono-red can't have nice things. All we get are stupid Chandra burn variants. (Koth the one awesome exception)

I also have been running both the furnace and a single plains, but I also run 20 lands, 3 petals, and 2 SSG. My sb is more white heavy though(eg leylines, peacekeeper, multiple RIP) so I like to be able to fetch for a basic plains in anticipation of a moon effect. I also was losing enough games just to mana screw that I added the 20th land, which at the time was actually a 5th fetch.

Not at all. It's just hard to play in an 11pm daily (east coast) when work is early. Of course I'll suck it up sometimes to play. Beyond that it leaves weekend 10am which I can do if I don't have plans yet

I hear you on that. Everyone on the West coast has it nice when it comes to the DE. Starting at 11pm EST can be rough. The 7pm Modern daily is about all I run.

Thanks for the suggestions above too!

Ever thought of trying to make a video series of games with commentary/a giant rundown of the entire deck. Something like a video primer series. We all know streaming can be tedious because of schedules and what not. Hell just start a youtube channel and post content every so often with games.

I have seen those before and I find them suboptimal over written by primers. They are hard to update and offer less information as well. Basicly you just end up speaking a primer that finds itself out of date 12 months later.

How would you guys generally board vs a Deadguy deck? I played vs Painter for the first time last night and it was awkward. I won, but it was close. My thoughts were he would want to bring out a few red blasts since they suck without a painter in play, and bring in Ensnaring Bridges/whatever other moon effects he played in the board? I've never played the deck, I just would like some insight in case I play vs the deck at like an open. Thanks!

The primer doesn't specifically address deadguy, but you can sideboard similar to how you would sideboard against a blade / aggro (goblins) deck with a few modifications.

My deck is mono-red, but depending on the style of deadguy deck (some tend to be more aggro-centric with cards like Serra Avenger, while others are more controlling) would determine how effective your ensnaring bridges would be. Regardless of the style of deck, you would want to ensure they do not have an active jitte with 3+ counters. And you can use your moonies to nullify their suite of hate-lands. Sulfur Elemental out of the sideboard is great for mother of ruins shenanigans. If you are playing white splash and they are discard heavy, something like leyline of sanctity could be considered. Generally a fast combo win is the ideal way to go as opposed to hating out their board and attacking.

Wait, it sounds like you are the dead guy player? You are wanting to know how we would side against you?

I played a lot of deaduy match up before, board sweeper, revoker and other answer to equipment is needed. However the most important thing is resolve a moon effect as soon as possible.

Yeah? Is moon really that crippling against deadguy? No one plays it here because of the popularity of DnT, different decks I know, however I didn't know deadguy was so dependent on its manabase

Well, that deck does play a surprising number of non-basics for a 2 color deck. And many of their spells are double black. So if you can catch them off guard before they know to fetch up basics, moon effects are not bad. It's kinda like elves. I dropped a turn one blood moon against an elves player online yesterday and he scooped.
I personally run leylines in my s.b. which definitely come in handy in the dead guy matchup. They are depending on discard to break up our hand.

Yeah, moon is mediocre at first glance...but it does work really well in this match-up. they have a lot of fetches or duals, especially when they splash green for decay. Moon may not completely shut down them but it is really annoying for them (they often need at least double white source to cast stoneforge mystic and STP). My friend who plays BW pikula for years told me moon gives him a headache...

Daily from Thursday for anyone who wasn't watching. Buried somewhere in it is my attempt at breaking down the deck (not the greatest) but all the matches were pretty thought provoking.

    Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter

Just played my league match and lost to Death and Taxes, taking me to 2-2.

Game one an early moon slowed it down enough to get me a grind win.

Game two, I board in firebolt and manic vandal and do a bit of shaving to get them in. I draw a no mana hand and go to six. It was typical DnT get a decent enough board of hatebears with revoker on stone and alpha strike.

Game three, another no mana opener, go to six and only have a CoT which is promptly wasted, I get the combo out but he has a revoker on stone backed up by three moms. I die to Flickerwisp. Jaya is ploughed on sight. I die.

    Fucking mana!

In the new primer it concludes the DnT match up is a walk in the park and that the deck is just plain bad. I may not have played it right, my experience is still low, but as a DnT player one of the most common misconceptions I have encountered is that it is a subpar pile of cards and it is not only wrong, it's laughable. In experienced hands, DnT is a tool of terror. I have top 8d with it and it always brings a smile when someone comments on how I lucked out. Mother, revoker, stp, wisp, vial, aven, jitte are exceptional. And winning because someone who underestimates it- priceless.
