Hi all I am trying to figure out if it is time to drop meddling mage from the stock list to a 2 of. I have been playing Owen's main -1 Arid Mesa +1 Island for the past 3 months and have top 8ed 2 out of 3 25-30 person legacy monthly tournaments in my area. The decks I lose to are mostly because of wasteland hence the Island or TNN.deck. The only ways we have to deal with TNN are blast/counters, mage it (hurts our own), or race. I am wondering how others have been playing against TNN. I am thinking about switching the board from
4 Meddling Mage
2 Rest in Peace
1 Graf Digger's Cage
3 Red Elemental Blast
1 True-Name Nemesis
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Wear//Tear
2 Grim Lavamancer
to the new board of
2 Meddling Mage
2 Rest in Peace
1 Graf Digger's Cage
4 Red Elemental Blast
1 Pyroblast
1 True-Name Nemesis
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Wear//Tear
2 Grim Lavamancer
These changes would help against TNN and miracles while hurting elves. Combo match-ups besides elves are pretty positive because of the 12 counters, RIP, and Cage besides Meddling Mage. Red Blast effects could also hit cantrips against combo/tempo/and control. Please let me know your thoughts or any other ways to deal with TNN.
Thank you.
I have been running with three TNN in the main for awhile now with -1 plow or -1 peirce depending on the meta at the time. +1 Pierce if I expect combo +1 plow if I expect more aggro (which ever I cut resides in the board) but most of the time I cut 1 plow because the extra TNN help aggro matches anyway.
It sure helps race TNN if you resolve one yourself first + bolt to finish. I have found that the extra creature in the deck is great. about the same creature density as RUG, (batterskull makes 12) and I feel like it helps the consistency of the deck a bit.

I tried the 3 TNN over a pierce and it was awesome. I switched the extra TNN in my board to a second wear/tear. I changed my play style to keep red blast up only for countering TNN's and the extra wear/tear helps against the stoneforge builds. Still debating if I should drop any number of mage for more red blast, the 4th spell pierce, or something else like v-clique.
I'm on 3 TNN main and REB board and am very happy with it so far. I'm still a little new to the deck and am using 4 mages which seems fine. Once I get more games in I'll re-evalute the mages. I do like 2 wear/ tear in the board as well. Love this deck it seems like it has all the answers:)
went 2-4 drop at a large duel for duals. Deck was a solid choice but I played like crap. I'm thinking about running 3 gixtaxian probes main. Any thoughts for people who have tried this build?
For the gixtaxian probe build I was thinking about the following:
4 Wasteland
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Flooded Strand
3 Volcanic Island
4 Tundra
1 Island
4 Delver
4 Stoneforge Mystic
2 True Name-Nemesis
4 Brainstorm
4 Ponder
3 Gixtaxian Probe
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Batterskull
3 Spell Pierce
3 Swords to Plowshares
4 Daze
4 Force of Will
Side:
2 Wear//Tear
2 Grim Lavamancer
2 Meddling Mage
2 Rest in Peace
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
1 Swords to Plowshares
1 Graffdigger's Cage
1 True Nemesis
3 Red Elemental Blast
Kamus
Legacy Decks: Grixis Delver, Canadian Threshold, Patriot, UR Delver, Team America, Shardless BUG, Junk, Miracles, Jeskai Stoneblade, Esper Stoneblade, Deathblade, Bant, Grixis Control, ANT, Reanimator, Sneak & Show, Infect, Food Chain
Modern Decks: Infect, UR Delver, Grixis Delver, Jeskai Geist, Jund, Abzan, Blue Moon, Grixis Control, Esper Control, RUG Control, BUG Control, Jeskai Nahiri
I'm new to Legacy and I'm looking to create my first deck. UWR Delver is one of the decks that I'm considering to build. I am on a budget though. The good thing is that as far as it goes for creatures & spells I would only have to purchase 2 True-Name Nemesis (possibly a 3th for the sideboard?) and a playset of Daze.
However, when it comes to the land base it's a lot more difficult since I only own 3 Flooded Strands and 1 Tundra. So I guess my question would be: is this deck playable without Wastelands, Tundra's and Volcanic Islands? Or could somebody give me a budget landbase? I'm willing to for the 4th Flooded Strand and possibly a combination of Arid Mesa and/or Scalding Tarn.
Or ghost quarter. It's not a great standin but against stuff like bug it would be so-so.

I wouldnt recommend playing this deck without wasteland. Mostly because you might get discouraged without having experienced the deck at the peak of its powers.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll look into it since the only thing standing between me and my first legacy deck are the lands I'm lacking.
Brought Owen's list to a local legacy for Duals tournament. Split the top prize and walked out with a Badlands.
Match Results.
0-2 ANT, He turn 2 combo the first game. And Turn 1'd the next game through hate. Oh well that's magic.
2-1 Junk Good stuff. I was manascrewed the first game, He was Manascrewed the Second game. 3rd Game he managed to get Liliana out and I saced one of my SFM and killed him on the swing back.
2-0 Eureka Superfriends. Playing against my buddy, his deck strategy, play Eureka, drop every planeswalker known to exist and kill you in your confusion. Game 1 i tempo him to death and he never drops a walker, game 2 i bring in meddling mage and name eureka and 2 delvers and a mage get the job done.
2-0 Reanimator S&T. I drop pressure and get him to where he can't grislbrand both games, Daze & Pierce all of his spells. Game 2. I spell pierce his lotus petal, and he bricks the rest of the game.
2-1 Deadguy Ale. Game 1 his Bob + lingering souls are just too much. Game 2, i get 3 delvers online and he never lands a bob. Game 3 he floods out just in time for me to kill him with a batterskull.
Finals: I'm playing the ANT player again i agree to let him have first pick of the 2 duals. Taiga or Badlands. I told him i didn't care either way so he took the taiga and I walked away happy either way.
You got pretty unlucky. Ant is almost a bye. I think the only way you can loose is keeping a creature heavy hand.
Considering your matchups was a good decision bringing UWR delver in this meta. Unfortunatly here we have a lot of junds bug delvers painters death and taxes and miracles
How do you guys feel about Gitaxian Probe? I feel like the card has helped me make decisions on how to make my plays, but I don't know if it is worth ditching a pierce, STP, and a land for it. Thanks.
I don't really think its a fit for the deck as we seem to have all of the answers to the cards opponents play. I would rather just keep playing the plow/pierces and extra land for owens stock list. I tried probe for about a month or so and the extra info was nice but I didn't like having less land.
I am still rocking three tnn and loving it. won at my local tourney last week with it vrs. gobos, burn and werewolf stompy only lost one game all night to stompy/bloodmoon. fairly easy day for the deck tho.
I have been loving this deck! played it for about a year and a half now (six mouths with giest/stiffe before tnn) and feel like its still a very strong in the meta. my list is same as Owens with one more tnn and one less pierce. the blast and r.i.p in the side board are key to winning tougher match-ups. Miracles can be very tough as well but i found that if you just let them kill your creatures, and target there finishers/soft lock with your counters you have a better shot. don't waist counters on there removal unless its dazeable. just keep jamming threats and try not to over extend into there terminus. get Batterskull online with force back up is key here. it still unfavorable i believe.
@ lambert101 I think the 3 tnn 3 pierce and 4 plow is the way to go![]()
