Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm

I decided to go to a 106 player event yesterday at Tales of Adventure. My third consecutive top eight there!

As for Young Pyromancer, we don't gain anything from it. We have less cantrips and more artifact mana, meaning less triggers. Not to mention that we don't dodge anything with it, people are prepared for Empty the Warrens – they get hit by the same hate.

    Agree with Bryant,

when i came up with the YoungPyromancer idea during the BoM-roadrip i wanted an alternate wincondition with Ant against fair decks.
    Unfortunately pyromancer doesn't work
In Tes,the reasons are mentioned by Bryant.
Pyromancer is supposed to be a tool to grind out games and Tes is definately not (!) a deck which wants to grind.

    Congrats!

Did you make any changes to your list?

Same exact seventy-five. The Infernal Tutor in the sideboard was huge all day, I'm really happy with it there.

If you don't mind sharing with the thread, what's your experience with Pyromancer been like?

    Opening post has been updated.

I'll do the last section when I have more time. I didn't include card tags for the individual card descriptions as I wanted the focus to remain on the card itself. If it's preferable that they're there for cards mentioned in these individual card descriptions I can add them.

Hey Bryant, I have just read the revamped primer. Thank you so much for writting so much accurate and useful info.

I have a small tourney this saturday, and will bring all those sideboarding notes. I'm still a noob with the deck, playing it for less than one year, but will give feedback about how it goes.
Currently playing: T.E.S. & RUG Delver

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm

I have been making my sideboading list using th 1st page.
There are 2 things I may be missread. This are my questions:

    against miracles
    miracles
    +2 pyro
    +2 decay
    +1 grape
    +1 tropical
    -1/2 ponder
    -1 mox
    -1 empty
    (rof, cabal R, ponder)

Thats what you suggest. But here are too many options, What would you suggest is the best?

    Show and tell:
    +1 chain
    +2 xantid
    +2 pyro
    +1 tropi
    -2 duress
    -2 cabal R
    -1 empty

You recomend to side this 6 cards in but only 5 out. What would be the last one?

And also I have one question, If you know they dont play leyline how would you side? Becuase If they 100% dont have it in his 75 duress would be good right?

Was surprised to side ut 4 ponders vs prision . But seems really good plan. Just increase speed and mulligan acordingly.

    Thanks

I don't see any reason to bring in grapeshot against miracle or well , against any deck.

Im just writing down what Bryant wrote down (:

But I understand a bit. It kills hatebears. And it also can dodge an merdling on burning if you nauseam and generate a ton of storm, thats not so unusual vs miracles.

Did you just pick and choose what part of the sentence you read? I also mentioned Tendrils of Agony. It's all preference and there's no correct answer, it varies depending on the individual deck you're facing. I have boarded in Grapeshot before against Miracles, it was against a list with multiple Canonist and Meddling Mage. Sideboard for the situation, not some set of rules.

I like the new list a lot. Looks much more comfortable to play a longer game if need be. IT in the board as default is lovely.

Nice work! The old primer was starting to show its age. One grammatical comment - you're pretty consistently using "it's" when you mean "its". If you just find/replace you'll be right for like 90% of the times you used it.
Languages and dates for every set. For all you true pimps.

    "It's" corrected.

If a Miracles list isn't siding Mage/Canonist, would you even put in a mainboard win condition at all? It seems like a lot of the motivation for a mainboard win is to play around Meddling Mage or Extraction on Wish, and it'd be pretty rare to see a Miracles list with Extraction, afaik. Is there some other reason to always have a mainboard win condition against control other than Mage/Extraction?

You don't have to – I didn't this past weekend. To reiterate:

Ok, gotcha, just wanted to make sure there wasnt some other factor I hadn't thought of that would warrant a mainboarded win condition. It is pretty convenient for Miracles/Esper that we can Massacre, as it does open Grapeshot as a mainboard option. Thanks.

Should chain of vapor be brought in against Reanimator to bounce Iona? Or should Tendrils be moved to maindeck in this match so you can win off Iona naming red? Or is it not worth it because they get griselbrand almost every time?

    Currently at:
    -2 Cabal Ritual
    -1 Empty the Warrens
    +2 Xantid Swarm
    +1 Tropical Island

    (-1 Ponder +1 Chain?)
    (-1 Ponder +1 Tendrils?)

    I think is not worth.

They will usualy call Black with Iona cause that gets us the most negation (discard for theyr counters and Ad nauseam + rites). so you board 1 card in for one card in his deck. And that card you have to draw it naturally cause you can not Nauseam for it.
