No Krenko means you don't have to make room to jam more haste lords. And though SGC is more expensive at 5cmc I sort of made up for it by running TSH over Tuktuk. The list felt tight. Pyro in the SB was great. Maybe some Carpet of Flowers would be cool in the SB too.

    Re: [Deck] Goblins

Can anyone enlighten me on how the shardless bug matchup is for us/(vial goblins)?

Old primers on that archetype say that Goblins is a bad matchup for them, but given how old they are I'm not inclined to put much faith in those words.

Krenko is very good here. They have very few answers for him (usually 1-2 Toxic Deluge or a Maelstrom Pulse, + a semianswer in JTMS), and he will completely take over the game in just a few turns. Shardless BUG is one of the few decks that can actually match our card advantage. At the same time, they have enough ground blockers to make playing the aggro role undesirable for us. The games where they have a lot of gas are typically difficult for us to win, otherwise I'd feel slightly favored. 50/50 matchup for me for now, still looking to figure out the best way to beat it.

I went 3-1 yesterday. I beat Patriot, Miracles and Merfolks, and lost to Food Chain. I felt good about my list and my play in all the matches I won, aside from a few minor tired mistakes versus Patriot. I lost G1 to Foodchain due to a real bad missplay. Instead of Tarfiring Strix on my own turn I waited until his and was met with a FOW. Just really bad play on my part, wasn't thinking correctly. G2 I mulliganed a onelander with good cards but no castable onedrop, then a six with only cavern of souls, but two discard spells and a tarfire. Kept Piledriver + Vial + lands and lost.

Good summation of the Shardless MU. They're a weird deck because their cards mirror ours in many ways. Shardless Agent = Matron/Lackey. Baleful Strix = Gempalm. Ancestral Visions = Ringleader. Then they have DRS to muck up Lackey plans, and they have Abrupt Decay to mess with Vial. Toxic Deluge kills our board and leaves their Goyfs intact. Plus their discard game is pretty good at crushing our hand. I've always found the MU unfavorable. Krenko is really a beast against them, but mostly you just need to grind them out, dodge Toxic Deluge, and not let them establish a Jace/Lilliana lock.

Against Food Chain I found that Thalia was really good. Their spells are pretty expensive and they have a pretty disruptable manabase. Aside from that you can just spot removal their early creatures to keep Food Chain at bay. Piledriver runs downhill against blue Griffins.

I can see this being a problematic matchup for us and from what I've seen the decks popularity has gone through the roof lately. I've got a tourney on sunday, and I expect to run into it at least once.

I think saving tarfire for DRS + gempalm for their strix is a decent game plan, although game plans tend to go out the window when your opponent has thoughtseize + hymn to tourach...
If the opportunity presents itself, sandbagging piledrivers and going for a combo kill in the mid-late game also seems reasonable (on paper at least). Fucking DRS though... I'm getting really sick of playing against that card.

    Thanks boys.

    ONE MORE THING!!!
Mogg War Marshal is boss in this MU. It's great against Goyf, DRS, and Lilliana. So have 2 or 3 MD if you're expecting Shardless en masse.

    I agree.
I've win the last games against shardless barely. Against them i'm usually playing Tarfire in DRS, and Pyrokinesis to let pass an instigator, and if instigator comes in and connects, we have a chance of overwhelm fast enough.

Played a small tournament yestarday and ... it was very very very insteresting (i used the list at the bottom)...
This time i went for the classic version but using the mana base of the instigator version (should have replaced the pendelhaven), and a few changes and the first "TEST", was just .... WOW!!!!

Instead of running 4x Piledrivers like i usually run in the Classic version i kept 2x Piledrivers and used the old Mogg Maniac, and genttleman, it was stunning :D (just played 3 games, but i liked how it worked).

    Round 1 - Nic Fit (2-0)

    * Game 1 - on the draw, an incredible 3rd turn victory even when i am on the draw and my opponent played 2 Veteran Explorer (thanks for the extra lands)
    * Game 2 - he went for discard, the game took "ages" and then ... won the game because i attacked for 4, Cycled a Gempalm incinerator on my Mogg Maniac doing 4 damage and a tarfire did the job :)

    Round 2 - Miracles (2-1)

    * Game 1 - On the draw, slow start, terrible draws, and 2 ringleadors bringing nothing === i Lost.
    * Game 2 - Slow start, and then ... the miracle happens ... i attack for 6 damage (1 Maniac + 1 Matron + 1 Ringleador + 1 Warchief), and my opponent goes for Miracle through Terminus, and as response to the activation, vial in a Siege-Gang, Cycle Gempalm incinerator on my Mogg Manic doing 8 damage and the Siege Gang wins me the game popping 2 creatures.
    * Game 3 - Very good start, and with a Piledriver on the table + 1 mogg maniac i see a Sword of Plowshares on my Mogg Maniac (he was more scared of my Maniac then the Piledriver!!!) ... Rest of story, was... i waited for the miracle, vial in siege gang and pop creatures to victory.

Round 3 - Burn (1-2) - Me and my opponent agreed in a draw for the credit store, but yet we played

    * Game 1 - on the draw, Good start, but ... he burned me to death easy and Guide + Swiftspear were too much to handle
    * Game 2 - ... we reached a point, that he is at top deck and if he draws burn he wins .... he didn't and lost.
    * Game 3 - ... we reached a point, that he is at top deck and if he draws burn he wins .... he did. He would lose in the next turn.

Note: I enjoyed playing with maniac, and see the faces of despair of my opponents when i cycled a gempalm for damage! i'll try again.
I think that he could be interesting for those matchups that exists Tarmagoyf or even bigger, he is the perfect blocker for a 6/7 creature :)

i don't want to fill the thread with janky ideas, but since you are talking about mogg maniac i can't resist..... try Skirk Fire Marshal and one-shot kill your opponent tapping five goblins with a maniac in play. I did this in EDH and it's been extremely satisfactory.

    Re: [Deck] Goblins

Just got back from the tournament, which had a whopping 8 people... so 3 rounds of swiss cut to top 4.

    Match 1- Burn
I was paired against my friend who was borrowing my burn deck. Not much to write about. Aether vial/Port are really good against Eidolon, but burn is just too fast and price of progress is insane against us. Lost 2-1.

    Match 2- Miracles.
So a bye? Not quite. I won game 1 in about 30 minutes, and lost game 2 with 1 minute to go. My opponent was at 1 life when he won, so that's the clearest indication i made a mistake somewhere...

A few notes... I didn't draw a cavern/vial in game 2, so I was very cautious and I didn't pressure him enough. His pace of play was unbelievably slow, even by miracles standards which ate up a lot of time. I asked him to hurry up a few times, but because I naively assumed I would win the 2nd game I didn't think it would matter. I have no excuses for that loss, I just plain fucked up.

I find out my next matchup will be either of the 2 storm decks, and we're told by the head judge that if we draw we're both out of top 8, but if someone concedes, one of us has a chance to make top 4. We both offer to concede to each. Seeing as it was the other guy's first tournament and he was a nice enough guy -and I'm playing storm next- I see no point in trying to make top 4. After about 5 minutes of us both saying that the other should accept the victory (i know right) I explain just how bad the storm matchup is, and he accepts my concession.

    Loss 1-1.

Match 3- TES (the epic storm)
    Uh oh.
Game 1: He made 16 goblin tokens on turn 1 and I scooped it up.

Game 2: A really good lackey draw let me put in a warchief on turn 2, and I hardcast sharpshooter. That turned off his empty the warrens plan. A timely hardcast massacre wiped my board, but I'd put him at low enough life, and had been using rishadan ports to slow him down.

Warchief, Piledriver + piledriver won the game for me.

Game 3: I mulligan into a hand of fetch, rishadan port, goblin lackey, goblin piledriver, goblin matron, red blast.

On my 1st turn, I draw goblin lackey and cast the first one. From then on, I held up red blast and used lackey to put lackey into play, being able to put 2 goblins into play for free each turn. I red blast an early ponder, which probably saved my life.
On turn 3 I have piledriver, matron, warchief, lackey, lackey.

He tries to go off, and he has it won if he does it properly but I refuse to scoop. I make small talk with the people watching while my opponent tries to work out how to win. He eventually ad nauseums down to 2 life and has it in the bag, but then decides to imprint the wrong card onto chrome mox (he needed red mana, not black).
He blames lack of sleep and scoops.

So I beat TES and lost to miracles. Go figure.

    I end up 5th (wooptifuckingdoo)

    The decks played today were;
    2x Miracles
    2x Storm (1 ANT, 1 TES)
    1x Burn
1x Oldschool UR Delver (4 goblin guide, 4 lava spikes etc)
    1x Manaless Dredge
    Me.

A very eclectic mix of decks and nothing I really expected to play against. I still can't believe I lost to miracles... I guess that's just how the Zuran Orb Balances sometimes.

So it seems, as one of the top 8 is a RB goblin deck - I have never seen him posting anything else that his RB build.
    Mountain Caverns, Lackey, Go.

If Sandro is playing the same list he posted here last time it will be rough. Earwig Squad and CT aren't quite enough in this match. He'll miss Port in this one. Let's see though. Good Luck Sandro!

He takes G1 against OmniTell! 2x CT did serious work. Excellent use of CT to strip a Bolt from his opponent's hand clearing the way for a Warchief. Then Earwig Squad (which had the announcers seriously stumped) and Piledriver took it home. Great G1!

BR is strong, knowing the matchup the cabal can do really damage, and the earwig is powerfull.

This is probably THE matchup where CT maindeck pay out the most. Really well played in G1 - I would say it was a flawless game of magic from Sandro's side.
