Actually, I wasn't trying to compare the two. The lists that run void here forgo Jitte to make room. Their psyche is that going down in creature count is dangerous since our strategy is to bring the beats with creatures. I think it's a way to keep the dead top deck later in the game down.
The guy who went 4-0 in the daily did say he was searching for room for jitte since he doesn't know if relegating it to the board is right.
How can we beat Glacial Chasm? I expect a chalice on 2 to stop Loam recursion may be helpful no?
Has anyone tried Cyclonic Rift over Echoing Truth?
Hi all,
I just joined the forum but I am monitoring it for a long time.
Similar to the guy before I also sold all cards except Merfolks (for Legacy and Modern) due to same reason :)
In meta heavily packed with Elves and combo do you suggest 4 CoTV in main?
What FANAttIC said for the first question. As for cyclonic rift, it's essentially a worse echoing truth. You're probably never going to get the chance to overload, and you're probably going to get into situations often where your opponent has more than 1 goyf/delver/whatever on the board
Yes.
Hi,
I've also been reading for quite and while and now I wanted to share my list (inspired by Kayds list and some others):
Creatures:
4 Lord of Atlantis
2 Merrow Reejerey
4 Cursecatcher
4 Silvergill Adept
3 Phantasmal Image
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
4 True-Name Nemesis
Spells:
4 Force of Will
4 Daze
4 AEther Vial
1 Umezawa's Jitte
Lands:
11 Island
4 Mutavault
4 Wasteland
2 Cavern of Souls
1 Vendilion Clique
SB:
SB: 2 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 3 Chalice of the Void
SB: 2 Echoing Truth
SB: 2 Submerge
SB: 2 Pithing Needle
SB: 2 Relic of Progenitus
SB: 1 Dismember
SB: 1 Null Rod
I thought that 21 lands wouldn't hurt especially when you lose some of them (Wastelands, destroyed Mutavault creatures). The two Caverns are nice in the control match ups and also provide 1 more blue mana (compared to 12 Island, 4 Muta, 4 Wastelands).
For the sideboard I'm still debating if I want 3 COTV and 1 Dismember or 2/2 split.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
My first instinct would go three void and one dismember, just because Elves is such a bad matchup and void does better vs it. Also, dismember hits creatures and we are not that bad against creatures to begin with, unless they are not blue. But, if the opponent is on a non-blur creature plan, I don't know if an extra dismember will help that much. Perhaps against mom?
A couple of Flusterstorms in the board may be good too with 3 Chalice
I wouldn't bring in chalice, I think. Can be decayed and it doesn't hit too many relevant spells.
I'd board in the submerges, dismember and both relics?
Depend on play or draw, but I'd consider dropping forces and vials. Vials can be a dead draw and being decayed is nasty.
I only bring in my chalices for games against combo decks, miracles and burn. I don't think it's needed in most other matchup. As for your second question depending on if i'm on the play or draw I usually cut some dazes, force or maybe a utility merfolk. Cutting vial is absolutely insane.

50 people is relevant enough. Nothing out the ordinary.
On the same note there was a list that top 16'd an SCG Legacy IQ a few weeks ago: http://sales.starcitygames.com//deck...p?DeckID=81092.
I guess the only interesting thing is the Thassa and the Sygg. I think we've talked about both cards in the past before. What do you guys think of these cards now?
So, is Greg Hatch not active anymore? I haven't seen his lists much lately. I was wondering because he seems to know his Merfolk well and I want to ask him stuff.
has anyone thought about trying crucible of worlds in the sideboard? Just a random thought. I was thinking it would function like loam for delver decks. Get a wasteland lock on delver decks or infinite mutavault blocker. Or this might just be not what merfolk is trying to do and 3cc is too slow. Thoughts?
Waterfront Bouncer can save your creature and use extra lands/Chalice/Vial to discard to bounce enemy creature for tempo. I've used him on occasion.
Hello everyone,
I made top8 of a small tournament this week-end with the following list:
Creatures:
4 Lord of Atlantis
4 Master of the Pearl Trident
4 Cursecatcher
4 Silvergill Adept
4 True-Name Nemesis
4 Phantasmal Image
Spells:
4 Force of Will
4 Daze
4 Aether Vial
2 Stifle
1 Spell Pierce
Lands:
12 Island
4 Mutavault
4 Wasteland
1 Cavern of Souls
SB:
SB: 1 Grafdigger's Cage
SB: 2 Chalice of the Void
SB: 1 Umezawa's Jitte
SB: 2 Tidebinder mage
SB: 2 Swan Song
SB: 1 Spell Pierce
SB: 1 Hydroblast
SB: 1 Vision Charm
SB: 1 Relic of Progenitus
SB: 1 Dismember
SB: 1 Surgical Extraction
SB: 1 Cavern of Souls
Round 1: Win 2-1 vs. Oops all Spells
I got turned 0 game 1 (daze in hand). But this deck is a glass canon, and post-board if your mull accordingly, you have little to worry about. Remember that they pack 4 Chancellor of the Annex, and that the first land you play should remain untapped to either force or daze.
Round 2: Draw 1-1 vs. Dredge
I lost game one despite a sweet play involving dazing my own spell to sac. cursecatcher to counter daze in order to remove 3 bridges from his yard. He eventually got a couple of narcomoebas and ichorids out to dread return a lifelinking fatty and that was it. Game 2, I relic'ed and was able to control the game before finishing him off. Game 3, time was called and I attacked him down to 1 on turn 5 of extra turns...sometimes gut shot looks like a fantastic card...
Round 3: Win 2-0 vs. TES
Well when you draw your counters, this matchup becomes easy. Remember to not get too greedy regarding which spell to counter. A good TES player will know that you'll try to empty their hand to make it harder for them to reload and will bait counters accordingly. Also they have 3-4 duresses...
Round 4: Loss 0-2 vs. Canadian Threshold
This is a good matchup for us. I mulled to 4 game 1 (not a single land for the first 3 hands...). I got him on the ropes game 2, but he blind-flipped 2 delvers when it mattered and finished me off. Also he is a better player than myself and eventually won the whole thing (spoilers).
Round 5: Win 2-0 vs. Shardless BUG
This is also a good matchup for us. This time everything worked according to plan, I wasted the bayous and islandwalked to race the tarmogoyfs. Dismembering the DRS is worth it.
This was good enough to top8 a 30-man tourney in 7th.
Quarters: Loss 1-2 vs. Lands
Let's be honest I got lucky to even take a game because this is not a good matchup. Remember to sandbag your wasteland to have a chance to waste glacial chasm to alfastrike... Surgically extracting Life from the Loam is sweet but you clearly need luck. Phasing out Ensnaring bridge with vision charm might also be a play post board. Oh and swan song is good because they do play choke...
Well that's it, I like this build because you can adopt very diverse strategies and either play the controlling or the purely aggro game.
Have fun and keep fishing,
Cheers
Running all the usual cards -1 Daze, I have 4 flex slots at the moment.
Building for general applicability because of an unknown meta, I'm leaning towards 2 Umezawa's Jitte and 2 Vendilion Clique, but other options I've thought about:
2 - 4 Chalice of the Void
// Chalice gives g1 disruption of combo, removal and burn
2 Sygg, River Cutthroat
// Sygg got a lot better with TNN
2 Spell Pierce
2 Echoing Truth
2 Stifle
I like the creature removal/control benefits of Jitte, and I can still possibly Image an opposing Stoneforge Mystic from time to time. Clique is used to pick apart combo, Sneak and Tell, Stoneforge Mystic, etc.
I'm leaning away from Stifle because I'm only running two Wastelands, and that might drop to 0.
Any thoughts? How many Islands is recommended for 4 Dazes, and should I take out a Jitte or a Clique if I wanted that fourth Daze? Thanks!
Most people blindly suggest new cards for decks. True contributors also suggest what to remove. It's not about what's good, but rather what's better than the current selections.
I am playing 2 Daze, 3 is ok, 4 is too much because people are playing around it and you need the mana for TNN, Clique and Jitte.
My mana base is:
13 Island
3 Cavern
3 Mutavault
2 Wasteland
It is the same for a few years now and never gave me problems. Good for 2 Daze and probably good for 4 Daze if you insist.
