to be fair, lifegain is awful but incidental lifegain is pretty good and selvala is pretty hard to remove for red decks and gives you both mana and cards. that being said, im not sure how good she is if you don't average at least 1.5 mana/life per tap since she's slow as molasses.
Being slow is this builds Problem in general and there is a reason stuff like Wellwisher was never compeditively played and Priest of Titania was cut, but apparently this does not stop people to suggest that 2cc Elves with summoning sickness are a tool to fight combo with their tap-ability. It bears the same logic as running Chalice of the Void in a deck full with 1cc creatures hoping that you also magically draw one of your two Caverns in addition to not lock yourself out. I guess running Teeg/Thalia/Canonist as the primary angle to fight combo in GWB Elves was too easy to miss ;P

Hey guys, just finished my GP Lille tournament report with lots of bonus content! Check it out! :-)
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
1. Discuss the unbanning ofLand TaxEarthcraft.
2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
4. Stifle Standstill.
5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).

Elves hasn't been a "wise" choice for over a year now.

Crap against miracles seems an exaggeration. it's a fine card, but playing 4x is too much because it doesn't win the game on the spot and redundant copies are useless. Playing 2 maindeck copies could be an alright choice given that the probability of facing a non blue deck in competitive events is fading away
My personal solution has been playing GTA V and buying into Modern. WOTC's master plan seems to be working.

Well, playing modern has been my personal solution too. I don't want to invest in blue staples and at least in modern i can be competitive with burn, elves, and even goblins if i want. I hate modern, it's just that right now i hate legacy even more

Yeah.
Your deck looks awesome man! Those Bayous, and the Sylvan Library OMG!
Oh come on guys! I'm sure there's a way we stay in the game...
Elves in it's current state:
- Natural Order is bad vs Miracles and sometimes decks with bolt/daze/pierce
- Natural Order is good against midrange / combo
- Glimpse is always value-town!
- Aggro plan is too slow vs combo without disruption
- Early disruption followed by DTT can wreck us
Lets review some cards that could give Elves a boost (these are maindeck suggestions)
- More Reclamation Sage as suggested by Lemnear to help vs miracles + buy some time vs omni + kill jittes and chalices more consistently without having to waste a tutor
- Sylvan Library (seems good vs Miracles and Omnitell... but what about everything else?) (Julian cut a NO for one in the main)
- Edric, Spymaster of Trest (maybe better off in sb)
- Sylvan Messenger (probably slow and bad but nuts with wirewood)
- Maindeck disruption (bad with glimpse)
- Fauna Shaman (tap abilities without haste suck but this is only if one doesn't want to run a complete 4 Sage -- vengevine wouldn't be included because that also sucks)
Before NO came along, the deck was too dependent on Glimpse. However in this metagame.. can it be cut? It feels like the main deck has to be tuned to either beat combo... or miracles.
Here's a list that stood out to me:
http://tcdecks.net/deck.php?id=17075&iddeck=128148
- 3 Discard in the main as well as Ruric Thar
- 3 Pyroblasts SB
- 2 Additional Reclamation Sages SB
Hopefully we can spark some more discussion. I'll be playing storm at my local this week but I'll be back to testing elves later this month.
