    Quarter Finals
You have four full days. Round ends November 9th @ 11:59pm EST
Pairings for next round go up the following day.

    • Quarter Finals!

    • Not modified play/draw rule. That was introduced to counteract intentional draws by offering an incentive to play games.

    • As there was no potential here for intentional draws, there will be no incentive offered. Play/Draw will be randomized.

    • Quarterfinal pairings were also, as a result, randomized.

    • Decklists will be posted in the OP.

    • Both players need to report results either in this thread or via private message.

    "Bracket"/Quarterfinals:
    Quarter 1:
    jrsthethird (6) vs Dragonslayer_90 (2)

    Quarter 2:
    dsck (8) vs Speedbump (1)

    Quarter 3:
    TheArchitect (4) vs iamajellydonut (5)

    Quarter 4:
    bigwerdz (7) vs Fry (3)

    Semi 1:
    jrsthethird (6) vs dsck (8)

    Semi 2:
    TheArchitect (4) vs bigwerdz

    Finals:
Winner Semi 1 vs Winner Semi 2

I don't understand what this means. Been out of the tournament scene for a while.

If you ever reach the top eight of a GP or an SCG, the way the play/draw will work is that the higher seeded player from the Swiss rounds will automatically get the choice to play or draw. For example, in the case of bigwerdz vs Fry, Fry would go first as he finished higher in the Swiss rounds. This is done to encourage players to play till the bitter end during the Swiss rounds as opposed to engaging in intentional draws. Ordinarily it's only seen at the higher levels of play, but some smaller events also copy-cat the procedure, and I just wanted to clarify that it wouldn't be the case here.

    tl;dr
    Roll a dice like always.

I can understand why you want to run it like this, but what was the point of me playing against Dragonslayer90 for the undefeated slot if it means less than fuck-all? (As we're both getting in at 4-1 regardless)

Only reason I played it out was because I thought seeding would be relevant.

    Basically what he said.

Also, the entire point if this was and is to play games. In fact, it was switched to Swiss from bracket upon the request of many in order to allow them to continue to play even after they were out of contention. In hindsight, it probably wouldn't have mattered if I had made an exception for your case, but the intention was that the games should be played, so I paired you.

p.s. TheArchitect managed to get me in three games even after I won the roll. Game 1 I flooded but stabilized thanks to Punishing Fire even through an Entreat the Angels, but then he abused three fukken Tops in conjunction with Monastery Mentor and crammed my shit in. Game 2 was a lot less close with lots of Wastelands and a Wear//Tear hitting his Rest in Peace and targeting his Top followed by an immediate Chalice to lock him out. Game 3 was very close, but we went through a long string of one-for-ones where I didn't have the mana to double up on threats while he filtered perfectly for answers. Eventually jammed the meanest Counterbalance with a Vendillion on top. Eventually I get more mana and I decide to test the waters with a pair of 2cc spells since he has an empty hand, no fetches, and at least one Vendillion Clique stuck on top of his library. He spins and wiffs with the top three. Uses one of his two Tops to draw a Brainstorm. Casts Brainstorm. Draws three. Puts back two. Spins remaining Top. Sees one new card... and it's a Wear//Tear. Never come back.

Game 1 was close and fun, I made a lot of mistakes and almost lost even with an entreat for x=4. Game 2 I didnt get to do anything. Game 3, I had excellent filtering and my opening hand was solid. It was like 2 STP, Brainstorm, 3 land, top, and then I quickly drew 2 counterspells.

Fun games, I am not looking forward to playing against all of the mono-red decks!

dsck and myself are still trying to find a suitable time to play. Main problem might be the fact that his evening is when I'm usually asleep, with the whole being on the other side of the world thing.

Hopefully done either Wednesday/Thursday morning AEDT, which is 24-48 hours from this post.

That should be fine. We had at least one attendee at the GP, so we're gonna be waiting on that match anyway.

Speaking of which, Dragonslayer, your inbox is full. :D

I got wrecked by Jrsthethird's sweet Junk deck (2-0). King Dragonslayer is dead...long live King Dragonslayer...

    dsck 2-1 Speedbump.

Both of us played reasonably well, although I think I missed a few tighter lines of play that could have been taken. My deck shat on me hard throughout, which wasn't fun.

Cheers once again for running this, iamajellydonut. If there's another one of these, looking forward to it.

    dsck 2-1 speedbump

G1 I think we both mulled, I had t1 top, t2 counterbalance while speedbump had senseis top as well but was stuck on 1 land for 2 or 3 turns while I laid lands and entreated for the win fairly safely.

G2 Mulled hand with countebalance, volcanic island, island, clique, entreat, council's judgment, disenchant to better hand but without counterbalance. I couldnt find counterbalance fast enough, got on too low life total and eidolon finished me.

G3 I believe speedbump mulled here again. I managed to deal with early goblin guide and got the cb lock down soon after.

bigwerdz 2-0 over fry. I drew pretty nuts against his mulligans. Great games and glad we got to play again.
