With everyone freaking out about Thing in the Ice, I am glad I play a deck with main deck pyroblast / REB.

It's a new blue card flip card that was spoiled today.

    Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter

    Hi guys/gals

First time poster. I have trying to get into legacy for a while now, finally managed to throw Imperial Painter together. I went 4-0 with the following list and won myself another Wasteland:

    //Lands
    4 Ancient Tomb
    4 Arid Mesa
    3 City of Traitors
    1 Great Furnace
    3 Mountain
    1 Plains
    2 Plateau
    1 Scalding Tarn

    //Spells
    4 Blood Moon
    3 Enlightened Tutor
    2 Ensnaring Bridge
    4 Grindstone
    1 Humility
    3 Lotus Petal
    4 Pyroblast
    3 Red Elemental Blast
    3 Sensei's Divining Top

    //Creatures
    2 Goblin Welder
    4 Imperial Recruiter
    1 Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
    1 Magus of the Moon
    4 Painter's Servant
    2 Simian Spirit Guide

    //Sideboard
    SB: 2 Sudden Demise
    SB: 1 Scab-Clan Berserker
    SB: 1 Thorn of Amethyst
    SB: 2 Rest in Peace
    SB: 1 Enlightened Tutor
    SB: 1 Warmth
    SB: 1 Manic Vandal
    SB: 2 Firebolt
    SB: 1 Ethersworn Canonist
    SB: 1 Phyrexian Revoker
    SB: 1 Humility
    SB: 1 Oblivion Ring

Beat 2x Shardless, D&T and a more midrange-y Maverick deck. The list is largely an amalgamation of other lists I have seen but I decided to run a 1-1 split of Humility which did a disgusting amount of work. How does the list look to you guys?

Playing humility is gutsy for two reasons. It requires WW, and you are going to get so many judge calls it's not even funny. I loved it when my opponent played humility against me 2 years ago, and was shocked that it does nothing to disrupt Magus of the Moon or Painter's Servant.

    Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter

I'm fairly sure it does effect magus because it's on layer six (removing/addition of conditions and abilities etc) where painter is on layer 5 (replacement of abilities or conditions etc). Maybe I have my facts wrong, and I know I wrote on this subject a bit a few years ago. I'm positive on the painter ruling but doubt the magus one, anyone else know off the top of their head?

Both Painter and Magus checks in the layer before Humility. :)

The main board Humility was to counteract the large number of S&T decks I was expecting (although I dodged it completely). I openly admit that costing double W is a pain in the arse but thankful the only time it came up I had Moon and Bridged locked one of my BUG opponents. As for Judge calls, did my homework on common Humility interactions and thankfully most of the local players have known me long enough take my word for card interactions, years of me playing all-foreign Gifts decks seem to have conditioned them. :P

    Re: [Deck] Imperial Painter

Hit top 4 in a Qualifier with 47 people. Beat Miracles in first match top 8, but lost to another in the semis.

    Went with this list:
    4x Ancient Tomb
    3x City of Traitors
    3x Bloodstained Mire
    2x Wooded Foothills
    4x Mountain
    2x Plateau
    1x Great Furnace

    4x Imperial Recruiter
    4x Painter's Servant
    3x Goblin Welder
    2x Simian Spirit Guide
    1x Phyrexian Revoker
    1x Manic Vandal

    4x Grindstone
    3x Lotus Petal
    3x Sensei's Divining Top
    2x Ensnaring Bridge
    1x Engineered Explosives

    4x Blood Moon

    4x Pyroblast
    3x Red Elemental Blast
    2x Enlightened Tutor

    Sideboard:
    3x Firebolt
    2x Pyrokinesis
    1x Ensnaring Bridge
    1x Enlightened Tutor
    1x Tormod's Crypt
    1x Rest in Peace
    2x Thorn of Amethyst
    1x Trinisphere
    1x Vexing Shusher
    1x Burrenton Forge-Tender
    1x Worship

As you can see the list is based on Jack's, but I tried out some of Keller's ideas too. I'm not bothering for a detailed report, but I can provide a double from qualifier and final tourney if that will happen later.
A quick summary of my thoughts from this finish:
    • Manic Vandal was uneccesary. I did miss Hedge-Mage a bit against miracles, so maybe I'll try on of those main instead, or just move it back to board.
    • The matches proved yet again that I want another Revoker somewhere. Alas I didn't find space in advance.
    • 3rd Bridge in side was awesome.
    • Not sure if it's right to cut Jaya, but I've yet to miss her. She's often more awkward than not in my experience.
    • Burrenton + Worship seems totally awesome on paper, but I never met any decks worth siding them against. There were burn, grixis and UR delver in the room tho, but I met a lot of moon-susceptible decks instead.

If the exile was -3 or so and she could exile creatures /artifacts regardless of state, then I would try her out for sure.

Honestly, I think this is as good as we could ask for. She has card draw (the red version), creature removal, and her ultimate is quite relevant, albeit not super powerful. Definitely at least worth testing in my opinion.
