Lets calculate. Playing Griselbrand with sneak attack, then drawing 7 cards.
93% chance of getting simian or lotus petal, thats not counting if you didn't play a land. About 100% chance to getting one or more Emrakul or Inferno or Worldspine. Obviously lotus petal can get countered, but they probably didn't have counters for your sneak attack.
Those odds seem damn good to me. Drawing 14 is obviously better.
I would say yes guaranteed win, 90+% of the time.
He's not as good with through the breach, but still better than worldspine or wurmcoil.
4 Emrakul
4 Griselbrand
4 Inferno
1 Worldspine
4 Simian
I love Griselbrand. My current creature configuration for reference, is:
3 Emrakul
3 Griselbrand
4 Inferno
1 Worldspine
2 Wurmcoil
4 SSG
Griselbrand off of Sneak Attack is often game. You ran the numbers, and it's just dumb how often it's just game. Through the Breach is a bit awkward though. Sometimes you just have to throw Grisel down to gain the life, but I've had it occur at least once where I've cast TtB at the end of their turn, just so I could draw 7-14 and still be fully untapped to hopefully cast another TtB (or draw into the Sneak)
So I'll be going to GP Columbus. I do not know which deck to play. I have access to every deck except for elves and miracles. Recently, mono red sneak has become a pet deck of mine, I have been doing very well with it and can see its ups and downs. I love its explosiveness and hate how it looses to faster combo (reanimator) or to itself (landing a sneak attack and then hitting lands and mana acceleratos for the next 4 turns)
Do you think this deck would be good there?
Sell me / Steer me away form this deck.
Reanimator and it's variants are all a bad matchup for this deck, and it can be demoralizing. The first non-weekly event I went to with this, I played against THREE Reanimator decks. The popularity of those might mean that we should stay away from this deck for a major event. Most other decks we can probably have a decent matchup and beat, with the exception of Storm. But again, how many people are going to play those at an event too, knowing it's 15 minute matches and turn 1 kills ...
Side note, played a version of this last night and went 3-1. Again, play by play will be missing.
R1, Loss, Food Chain. G1 I beat him before I remembered what he was playing, and sideboarded incorrectly for G2. G2 he wiped me, G3 was incredibly close, but damn Griselbrand lost me the game. He was at 2. The cards I substituted out to put Griselbrand in last night would have been a win for G3. I tried 3 Emrakul, 3 Worldspine Wurm, 2 Griselbrand. If it were either of the other two, gqme would have been done. I attacked with Griselbrand, opponent blocked with Misthollow Griffin, then exiled it to Food Chain so that I gained 0 life. And I was at 3 life. Ouch.
R2, Lands. G1 got a Larry Mage to the face before I could set up. G2 and G3, lock pieces for days. Blood Moon followed up by Shattering Spree to kill his Mox Diamond apparently does work.
R3, Esper Mentor. G1, kept a hand that was possible T2 kill, opponent was on the play with Git Probe Cabal Therapy combo. Hand died before I could go anywhere. G2 and G3, lock pieces and surprisingly Leyline of the Void helped a ton against him. He was banking on Deathrite Shaman and Tasigur. I ended up taking out Sneak Attack and just controlling his board with 99 lock pieces, then hardcasting Inferno Titan for the game.
R4, Storm. G1 he Emptys his angey storm of Warrens to make 16 Goblin Tokens, then Therapy to see my hand. I draw into ... not a way to win turn 3. G2 and G3 I annihilated the board with Trinispheres, Chalices, and again, Leylines. Leylines were probably not needed since he was playing Burning Wish, and I boarded out Blood Moons since he won t1 without needing a land, so I figured I didn't need Blood Moons. In the end, I was able to hardcast a threat, and he couldn't play spells to get a storm count up.
30$ store credit, got some funky things, some play experience, and kinda sorta had fun. But now I am going to take my Griselbrands out back to shoot them like a dog. I HATE Griselbrand in this deck. Just my opinion.
A high-risk/high-reward alternative to Big Grizzle is Arjun, the Shifting Flame, who'll dig right through your deck rather quickly. You lose the lifelink of Big Griz, which is going to be somewhat relevant, but you get a fat flyer who shenanigans.
So rather than a "cheat into play, draw 14, gain a bunch of life, and win the game", you end up with a longer term semi-castable smaller guy who doesn't gain life, doesn't win the game 90% of the time when you Sneak him in, and whose draw is tied into casting spells which, as a whole, is bad for a few reasons:
- The "free" spells we've got are Lotus Petal and Chalice (if you want to cast it at zero). Both of which should have been cast by the time that Arjun hits.
- The draw is much less immediate (again, being tied into casting spells
- Casting Through the Breach after Arjun is 100% a crap shoot. Casting Sneak after is still questionable.
I'm sure there's plenty more too. I'll happily stick with my giant fucking demon.
Played at my LGS today and went undefeated. 3-0 total, unfortunately only 5 people showed up.
R1, Doomsday Burning Wish.
G2 I sideboarded in 4 Trinisphere, 4 Kozilek's Return. While Kozilek's Return were totally useless, it forced my opponent to get a full storm count and Tendrils as oposed to Empty the Warrens. G3 I sb'd out the Koz Return and used Seething Songs for a good G3 victory.
R2, Helm of Obedience combo.
G1 he had Leyline of the Void, and I noticed some Moxen and a Grim Monolith before he comboed out. Chalice @1 was a mistake, but considering I never played him before, I made sure not to do that G2 and G3. G2 he misplayed, apparebtly he had the aleyline in his opener and forgot to reveal it. If it were a casual game, I would have allowed it, but in a tournament you have to remember what your cards do. i misplayed and played a Sneak Attack after the Trinisphere instead of playing a second Trinisphere, which allowed him to Abrupt Decay the Trinisphere eot and then combo out next turn. Also, after G2, I let the caffiene get to me, and I mistakenly tried to report that I won 2-0, when in fact we still had to play G3. After many apologies to my opponent, and we played G3. G3 he played a Rest in Peace, but was annihilated by Emrakul and Wurmcoil Engine before he could draw enough mana to land the Helm.
R3, BUG Delver.
G1 was the best game I ever had. I play t1 Mountain. He plays t1 Bayou. I play t2 Ancient Tomb. He plays t2 Wasteland and Dark Confidant, instead of wasting my land. I play t3 Sneak Attack, pitch SSG to activate, bring in Worldspine. He takes 15, and I get my triggers and pass turm. He flips for Dark Confidant ... revealing FORCE OF WILL and dies. G2 I misplay with Kozilek's Return, and I realize it and say it out loud, that I kill his Delver, but his Goyf gets bigger and survives. He gets there with a 5 power Goyf before I can do anything else. G3 I play t1 Mountain, Lotus Petal, Chalice for 1, resolves. Him, t1 Wasteland, pass. Me, T2 Ancient Tomb, Trinisphere, resolves. Him, t2 Wasteland again, pass. Me, t3 Blood Moon, he scoops.
48$ store credit, used towards the purchase of yummy cards. Lots of fun, except for that issue where I thought I went 2-0 against my r2 opponent ...
Going to a GPT today with this list
The notable changes are a pyromancy in the main deck which I cut a mountain for. In the SB im running 3 Pyroblasts. Not sure how I feel about the Wurmcoil engine in the main. Discard hits me hard so I was also debating a Bottled Cloister in the main.
1 Wumcoul Engine
2 Worldspine Wurm
3 Griselbrand
3 Inferno Titan
3 Emrakul
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Seething Song
4 Through the Breach
4 Blood Moon
4 Sneak Attack
1 Pyromancy
4 Lotus Petal
4 Chalice of the Void
8 Mountain
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
3 Sandstone Needle
SB
2 Magus of the Moon
4 Trinisphere
1 Pyroclasm
1 Sudden Shock
2 Shattering Spree
1 Pyromancy
1 Chandra, Flamecaller
3 Pyroblast
While I wish you the best of luck, I think you made a mistake by not having a way to stop opposing graveyard recursion. Reanimator is going to bend you over and do illegal things to you.
Also, Pyroblast is a bad move when you try to land Chalice of the Void on 1. Yes, Pyro will help to resolve said Chalice, but then Pyro is dead in your hand.
Lastly, this is a deck with no fetching and no card draw/manipulation. As such, I believe that running 1x and 2x of cards in your sb are bad, because you have very little chances to actually acquire said sb cards. The only 1x I run is Chandra in the main, and honestly, she might need to go up to 2 in the main, if I ever figure out what to cut.

I don't think I can agree with this post more. Arjun is a neat card sure but outside the casual table I don't see why you would ever run him. He is STILL susceptible to karakas too. Griselbrand is arguably the best creature in all of magic. It's like comparing scaled wurm to tarmogoyf, that's how big the power level difference is between Arjun and Griselbrand. Seriously, griselbrand is a fucked up magic card that should never have been printed. I don't know why some people aren't happy with him when sneaking him in or breaching him in is heavily likely to win you the game that turn or the next one. Wurm and emrakul aren't close to guaranteed victories by any stretch of the imagination.

My losses in swiss were to belcher (2-1) and a Maverick Taxes deck (2-1). I have played that Maverick player many times before and beat him 2-0 again and again but today was his day. I also lost to him in the top 8 (2-1). I needed a Sol land to get out of a double port lock, but I kept hitting basic lands, he plays a thalia, I draw a Sandstone needle and he wastelands me. The other game I lost was something similar, where I finally get a sneak attack into play and then he vials in a Pridemage.. fkkkkkk
I dint play miracles at all so Pyromancy did nothing for me. Always boarded it out.
Has anyone tried Sin collector?
Went (technically) undefeated tonight.
R1, played against my own burn deck that I let a new player borrow. I got mana screwed both games, but he gave me the win anyway. Yay?
R2, I played against my friend's rogue deck. G1, I got Worldspine out t1, he scoops. G1, Emrakul turn 3, then Emrakul turn 5. He pretends that he's not angry, but I know he's angry.
R3, split with Lands player, but we played it out anyway. G1, 2x Blood Moon leads to an easy victory. G2, he plays Sphere of Resistance and Rishadan Port, so he combos out before I can drop a Blood Moon. G3, he plays Sphere again, but I drop Blood Moon, then Shattering Spree his Sphere and his Mox Diamond. He cannot deal with me before I land Sneak Attack and swing with 2 fatties.
Yay for the kindness of the person who borrowed my deck, or else I would have been screwed. And not in a good way.
48$ store credit, bought yummy things. While banking it would be a good idea, I wanted yummy things.

Going to try 2 sin prodders and a pyromancy in the main tomorrow.
SDT would seem like a Non-Bo in this deck
I have a strange idea that I would like some of the more seasoned players to try out. The reason why I am asking others to try this instead of myself, is that I am not very popular with the others at my LGS. As a result of this, I don't have anyone to playtest this idea. I will try to get as much testing as possible, but the more people who can help me test, the better.
The idea is as follows:
Game 1, play "budget" Belcher. Why budget? We have a transitional sideboard, which transitions into Sneak Attack. This means that we have no Burning Wish gameplan, and we also do not want LED in the deck. I propose this decklist as a starting point:
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Tinder Wall
4 Street Wraith
4 Seething Song (normally Lion's Eye Diamond, but we normally use LED to activate Belcher, whereas we cannot use it to activate Sneak Attack)
4 Desperate Ritual
4 Pyretic Ritual
4 Rite of Flame
4 Manamorphose
4 Land Grant
4 Gitaxian Probe
4 Empty the Warrens
4 Goblin Charbelcher
4 Lotus Petal
3 Serum Powder (normally this is Chrome Mox, but because we want to look for possible t1 kill so opponent thinks we're playing Belcher, but then we sb into Sneak Attack and make them sb incorrectly.)
1 Taiga
SB:
4 Sneak Attack
3 Through the Breach
4 Worldspine Wurm
4 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn (However, I think this should be a different creature, since we want to kill with either the swing, or the tokens that are left after. Worldspine leaves 15 power, while Emrakul does not kill the opponent. We "blow the payload" with Emrakul and then we're done. If we were always on the play, I would suggest Blightsteel Colossus, but if they play turn 1 creature, then we probably don't kill them.)
Sideboard transition:
Remove 15 cards, add 15 cards, to throw our opponents off and have them sideboard incorrectly against us. We side out Charbelcher and Empty the Warrens, but we need to figure out the other 7 cards to remove.
Any thoughts?
