If they don't fix it swiftly, there will be nothing to fix.

Now the Jacetice League never loses, never has to make that big sacrifice, and rarely deal with consequences. It's just off to the next plane.

Urza and Mishra were very interesting characters. They were powerful, but not strong enough to defeat Yawgmoth. Mishra fell, and even Urza couldn't save Serra's artificial plane, instead compressing it into a power stone. The Weatherlight crew were great, too. Mirri's story was heartbreaking. Starke was a sympathetic bastard. Karn was easy to love. Even Squee had appeal. Squee!

People don't feel the same way about the Planeswalkers. Jace is just a prick. Liliana tries to be sassy and tough, but can't come close to Jaya Ballard. It's just like bad fan fiction. Mary Sues everywhere.

I mean, sure, Homelands was a disaster zone mechanically, from a development standpoint, but the design, the art, the flavor was extraordinary. Nothing from the new sets can even match the beauty of that set's atmosphere. In fact, every set from that era has hand-painted art, actual meaningful flavor text, non-trivial storylines... It's not just nostalgia if you grew up with those cards. They were simply designed with more meaningful purpose back then.
I don't know, I thought Innistrad (the first one) did a great job in this department. Though to be fair, that was also 5 years ago and the whole thing got kind of screwed over by Avacyn Restored, but looking at just the set by itself, I thought it matched or possibly surpassed Homelands in the department of design/flavor.

I mean, I really saw Innistrad as "Homelands done right."

Modern Suicide Zoo is a T1 deck. This card is a big part of it. It is also showing up in a new Jund Delirium deck. Honestly, this card is going to rise and rise until it's reprinted.

I'm used to Legacy prices on things, and I look at Modern prices with awe. I had no idea Bauble and Death's Shadow were doing things. Insanity.

I just looked, I bought 4x Death's Shadow from Troll and Toad on 9/1/12 for $.49 a piece. Same order included 3x Tidehollow Sculler for $.99 a piece and 4x Rest for the Weary at $.79 a piece.

I remember being upset with the price of Mishra's Bauble when I bought 4x for $1.50 a piece on 5/1/14. I was planning on using them in a Dredge build.

I've spent hours before going through old MtG receipts. Recently I've been shocked in good ways more than negative ways. Those cards make up for the 4x Mana Confluences I bought for $16.99 on 4/29/14, the 1x $7.79 Pearl Medallion on 4/8/14 and the 1x $24.99 Sinkhole on 1/30/14.

I do not look at past prices for things anymore. I find it depressing.

I sold a foil Bauble a year or so ago for $10. Thought I was making out like a bandit...

Twenty Kavus and a Dream is NOT a Legacy deck.

Why does being more than top make it bullshit?

Top was just reprinted, isn't modern-legal, and is floating around in trade binders all over the place due to EMA.

Bauble is from cold snap and is a 4-of in a modern deck that is blowing up in popularity. That means people can't easily trade into them and need to go buy them off the internet which leads to a group buy-out and price spike which is exactly what happened. It's also modern PPTQ season from July 23rd to October 9th which means plenty of spikes are trying to buy into the deck right now.

Top being a much more powerful and iconic card doesn't actually have much to do with this.

    Urza's Bauble ~25 cents.
    Mishra's Bauble ~40 dollars.
    Modern is cancer for prices.

I'm waiting for my stack of Lodestone Baubles to spike up.

It's on the reserved list and can shut off somebody's draws! Come on, go to $10 for me!

The fact that Coldsnap was very under opened by even the standards of the time, let alone today's open rate, makes it easy to buy out.
