Weird logic. So every promo card is not pimp? Neither any foil from FtV?
    I don't share that logic.

What's pimp is entirely subjective. So what you'll get is just opinions, like mine. You may agree with them or not.

To me, promos aren't pimp, nor reprints in general.

    MM Unmask
    From the Vault Unmask

    Tempest Lotus Petal
    From the Vault Lotus Petal

I know, the normal versions aren't considered pimp, but nonetheless the normal Unmask is double as expensive as the foil version, which I find really strange.
On the other hand FtV Lotus Petal is way more expensive than the non-foil version.

What's going on here? I am confused. Is it because of different FtV versions? Or just MtG madness.
My preference is original printing, original card frame, non-foil, non-English, signed. Your preferences will vary. Wanting FTV Lotus Petals is inconceivable to me.

    FtV cards aren't pimp.

This is a rare thing everyone ITT agrees on.

I think FTV foils could look okay if they're there to help max out on new-frame promo foils or something. The problem with them is they don't usually fit in with the rest of the cards in a deck, and don't look that nice on their own.

I agree old is more pimp, however, I collect art > pimp. I know objectively, my deck is less pimp, !"but I like altering cards so I chose the theros thoughtseize and khans lands. They look prettier when altered in foil.

    For example.

So you're saying its more "pimp" to spend money someone else earned rather then earning them yourselves? In that case, i suppose you'd call politicians pimp.

Absolutely gorgeous those Thoughtseizes. Also, I don't agree completely with the older the pimper. Zendikar enemy fetches expeditions are way more pimper than zen foil in my opinion.

I'm going to take the bait here even though it's just to rewrite what I originally said.

I'm saying, with respect to that graphic, people that have been wealthy for generations (old money) tend to have good taste in what they spend money on, opting to buy stuff that looks good and might only be noticed as expensive by those in the know (left column), and people who only just made their fortune (new money) tend to buy tacky and frivolous things that flaunt their wealth (right column). I wrote that ITT we consider the former to be pimp because it's tasteful and we don't consider the latter to be pimp because it just looks like it's trying too hard. And it's not in pimping nature to be trying too hard.

The point I was trying to make with my graphic is that pimp is not supposed to be elegant and sophisticated because the word means flashy and tasteless, as in something a ghetto pimp might want to buy to show his $$$. Yet this thread seems to aim for the former while bashing promos and reprints which follow "as shiny as possible for as little money as possible" of low level criminals.

I don't care if you hate on promos or not, Phyrexian Elesh Norn is really nice, and is pimp to most players.

So what do you think is harder to get:
    Rus Foil Elesh Norn
    JR Foil Elesh Norn

and the JR Version is more expensive atm (which will change over the years obv since could be reprinted anytime)
So no real pimp, since it isnt hard to acquire, just expensive for no reason over the coming years

Here's the thing everyone needs to realize about this thread: it's both somewhat pathetic (nerdy adults arguing over why their opinion of "pimp" is the correct one) and yet potentially awesome (based on your tastes, there are some gorgeous cards that get posted in here). Just enjoy the latter don't engage or even pay mind to the rest and the thread becomes worth checking.

This thread stopped being good at page 100, six years ago.
