So at worst, this is an unblockable 3/2 with Wardbut it also has some grind and combo potential (e.g. with blue artifact combo or cheating Dreadnought into play). Might be cool in the right deck.
Cloudform been there done that, with hexproof and flying.
It's the inability to manipulate the top of your library.
What I like about this one is you can just pour mana into it, but surely there's better things to do with 5, 10, 15 mana
They're really burning out player interest. The two obvious factors everyone identifies are that they're printing way more cards than they used to, and those cards tend to have a lot more text than they used to (especially when you consider how much stuff has gotten keyworded + the abominations of double faced cards where each face has a novella on it)
I think a third factor people tend to underrate though is that getting rid of blocks also meant that you now have so much less cognitive support to trying to understand new cards and sets. Like it used to be that you only had to know what "thing" Magic was doing each year. "This year is a bunch of artifact stuff. This year is a bunch of legendary stuff." etc.. And that was true for theme too, like it was Egyptian or Steampunk or whatever.
Like, you had a thematic crutch that helped you parse whatever the new sets were, which again, were also less frequent and less word dense anyway
Now we're deluged with constant streams of mechanically and thematically disconnected word salad
For my confessions, they burned me with fire/
And found I was for endurance made
Having fathomless decent in the set before gather evidence is a failure of design that couldn't happen with blocks
Weld-able non-basic hate. Not sure if it would have any use over Blood Moon effects, but at least it has a decent, evasive body that can also stop Delvers and DRC.
This seems decent.
Turn 1 Land + (Ig)noble Hierarch
Turn 2 Breakout into Dreadhorde Arcanist, Attack with Exalted recast Breakout into another good 2cmc creature
Seems really nice.
Also, aren't there a bunch of 2-card combos that are just 2cmc creatures? Devoted Druid + something? Could be an excellent source of redundancy for those combo decks.
There's also a decent number of beaters like Myr Superion where dodging the cast cost or restrictions could be nice.
I would question my life choices if I would sleeve up Myr Superion for a legacy event.
One should note that even if you find a creature with cmc>2 you get it in your hand so it has a weak failure mode if you have enough creatures to not miss in 6 cards.
However it costs 2, is a sorcery, is green and isn't blue.
Not exactly legacy material if you can not exploit it hard.
Maybe it's better in a Deaths's Shadow shell.
The "phoenix with set mechanic" :
can plausibly mill the whole deck in combination with Altar of Dementia(and that readily leads to winning through Bridge from Below.) That said, I'm not sure it's going to be better than existing dredge or Hogaak approaches.Lamplight Phoenix 1RR
Creature — Phoenix
Flying
When Lamplight Phoenix dies, you may exile it and collect evidence 4. If you do, return Lamplight Phoenix to the battlefield tapped. (To collect evidence 4, exile cards with total mana value 4 or greater from your graveyard.)
3/3
1RR - 3/3 flying
When it dies, instead exile a Force of Will or Lorien Revealed or Murktide Regent from graveyard and regenerate. If you can't, you may exile 4 1cmc cards instead.
Is that playable enough for the extra 2 mana over Delver of Secrets? Slow but very hard for nonwhite decks to remove.
5c Beans control can easily exile 1 card for the cost. Maybe it's better as a grindy midrange finisher.
