Saying that Great Wall+ Magical Hack has a use is the same as saying that Chimney Imp+ Rancor has a use.

I suppose I'm saying from a design perspective. There's a reason for Great Wall to exist, however bad. There's literally no reason why a card like Chimney Imp or Zephyr Spirit should ever be printed.

What about if your opponent is playing white weenie with Aysen Highway?
Great Wall looks pretty good now, doesn't it?
A lot worse than Disenchant.
That's the thing.
Even if somehow, miraculously, the situation actually came up that you would want a way to deal with plainswalkers, there are still dozens, if not hundreds, of more relevant cards that would deal with that threat.

I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down;
I went right home and I went to bed,
I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head.

Chimney Imp has a novel effect and it's pretty easy to come up with a casual deck that would use it. I have really no defense for Zephyr Spirit; perhaps you can like, Doran it up or use the white Angel's Something CIP gain life thing. But it's a card that you can look at and Johnny up somehow, because it does have an interesting (if very narrow and bad) ability to it.
Novelty (in the way patents are novel) factors in for me a lot here, and makes me think of cards like Aven Trooper as worse than Great Wall, since at least one is novel...
I'm ultimately unsure on any of this though.
To emphasize their shittness.
Yeah, but those crappy creatures create environment. (As any other card..) If all the cards (say there are 10 thousands of them) had the strength of Goyf, Fow, BS, fetch and duals, then the Imp would be out of other space.Originally Posted by TheInfamousBearAssasin
But as there are about 9 thousands not playable cards, and as there are 5 formats (talking only about those heavily supported), there is reason to print Chimney Imp - at least it creates environment. (Heck, maybe there is reason to print even the Great Wall/Snowfall.) Problem is if such a card occupies rare slot, like many of those extremely shitty card used to occupy...
Zephyr Spirit is REALLY bad. Almost Rakalite-like bad, although it can still take care of an opposing, say, Savannah Lions, for only six mana a turn instead of ten.
Aven Trooper is another gem. Temporary 2/3 flyer for only seven mana and a discard ?
I think both of those rival Chimney Imp for second place after Wood Elemental.

Eh..I still think Warping Wurm is the second worse creature ever (after Wood Elemental, of course).

Try not to wake up on fire.
Ah, I forgot about that. Ok, it's awful. Waiting three turns to get a 4/4 with an upkeep of four...but I wouldn't place it over the other two I mentioned because a) it actually combos with a GOOD card, namely Wrath of God b) Wurm can still end games by punching through large blockers (after five or six turns of doing nothing), which can't exactly be said of Chimney Imp, Aven Trooper or Zephyr Spirit. Hmm...on the other hand, Aven Trooper can already do eight damage in the time it takes Wurm to grow to 4/4 without having any effect on the board. Tough choice.
EDIT: Not quite as bad as those, but still pretty inefficient...

Maybe you dont get it with the wurm. He phases out so you dont get 3 counters in 3 turns.
For a 4/4 Wraping Wurm you have to wait 7 turns!!!
The rule text is also very confusing. He has phasing AND the triggered abillity that causes him to phase out! I mean if i stifle that he still has phasing? so wtf?

Not Great-Wall-bad, but not exactly good either...
In the a-bit-too-expensive category, we have...
Note that it doesn't even work as an expensive equipment because it's gone the moment the creature leaves play.

Why do the crappy cards always get the best art? I like more art in this thread then in the Best Magic Art one.
