Re: [SPOILERS] Mirrodin Besieged, the first stronk card are out!

Between Mirran Crusader, Student of Warfare and Knight Exemplar 1.x Knights could be really good. I wonder if a Mono W list with vials and Mother of Runes could do any good in legacy, too.

The black one is awesome...but doesn't look playable*. What other good creatures deal poison counters?

The white one seems really strong in a MonoWhite or White/X aggro aether vial decl. Having stoneforge mystic to get sword of fire and ice/sword of light and shadow means you have pro pretty much everything double striking madman. Seems really strong. Whether it is strong enough as a 3 drop is another point but blocking goyf and knight of the reliquary all day seem like a pretty good start.

Well, the white one you have to compare to Knight of the Reliquary since they are similar in size and mana cost. The Crusader will want his spot in many decks. I'm not sure I would trade my land fetching ability to have this guy. Maybe if I was heavy equipment in the cases of Jitte or Swords. Knight gets bigger, but this guy starts large. The mono-W cost helps get him into other decks, though there isn't too many who need this style of creature. Death and Taxes "might" could use this, though it's expensive for that deck and I doubt it's going to take Silver Knights' spot.

So sad black one is infect :( It should have Wither instead of Infect :/

I like the black one personally but it won't work if it's infect. White one is a house with equipment, and if you play it in a deck with Mom and Equipments, he will become immune to removal pretty easily.

Glad to see decently power-creeped cards at RARE rarity.

Wither = -1/-1 counters in combat, then combat damage
Infect = -1/-1 counters in combat, then poison counters

Ergo, wither > infect in current or established decks because poison is still fringe.

I misread the Black one as having Wither, too bad it would have been much more widely playable. It's still a powerful card, but very limited in where it might find a place.

I love the white one. Anything with infect might as well not exist to me because if there's only one legacy playable creature with infect (this one being the only one) then the card is awful because there's no other support for it.

Wither isn't in SoM Block. I like wither as a mechanic but unfortunately it was in a crappy ass 2 set block called Shadowmoor/Eventide which had almost nothing in the way of legacy playable cards.

The white one will see play, it is absolutely bonkers with equipment. And with sword of fire and ice it is an absolute house, probably wiping the opponents board in one swing or at least killing a tarmogoyf. Pair it with mom and you have one hell of a fine creature. And vial knights just got better lol.

Re: [SPOILERS] Mirrodin Besieged, some duders

Mirran Crusader is sex. It's nice to see some dork come out for White Weenie that isn't some inbred cousin of Silver Knight, or a shitty "lock creature" that sets some lousy rule for the game and almost never actually inconveniences the other player in a measurable way. Any creature that makes Stoneforge Mystic and her band of good equipment cards better is worth taking a look at.

Not quite understanding why Wither is preferable to Infect. I thought Infect was Wither but with the added benefit of poison counters, ne? So aside from the fact that death by poison just doesn't happen all that often, what makes Infect less desirable than Wither?

Creatures with Infect ONLY deal poison counters to players, not combat damage AND poison counters. That means that this guy can't team up with any other creatures like Tombstalker, Dark Confidant, or Vampire Nighthawk to kill your opponent.

Heh, no I haven't. Not using him anymore huh? Well, then if that's changed then you D&T players have even more of a stretch to try and use this guy. Knight was one of the weaker ones back then.

Oh yeah that's right. Hmm yeah, I now see that it'd have to be in a 'dedicated' Infect deck, so crap on that.

Re: [SPOILERS] Mirrodin Besieged, some duders

Because it deals poison counters. Not damage. So it's great for killing creatures and planeswalkers and blows ass against your opponent, since you're not going to have any other decent poison stuff.

However, that having been said, with Rituals, I could see Skithiryx seeing play. You could do a Legacy poison deck, it'd just have to be far heavier on discard and removal than critters. Maybe B/G and pair it off with Berserk. Berserking the second time you swing means you win and it's pro burn/swords/path. Still seems kinda meh, but might be something fringe playable.

Re: [SPOILERS] Mirrodin Besieged, some duders

The infect guy is what people at N&D thread "Infect Pump" were claiming for... there's a good deck there that kills T2-T3 with some consistancy. That guy is nuts for them
If you fail to explain the reason behind your choice, technically, it's the wrong choice.

That pro-green and black dude is going to see play. Protection from Tarmogoyfs and Knights? Death and Taxes will LOVE him me thinks.

Nah, what we needed for that deck was a 1cc 1/1 infect duder. If they make that, then the deck becomes playable.

Re: [SPOILERS] Mirrodin Besieged, some duders

While the infect guy won't see play, Mirran is a straight up baller in a Death and Taxes shell. There's a lot of relevant creatures that just can't block him. Adding any equipment at all makes him bonkers. SoFI is a two turn clock.

I think even deadguy ale could use a card like that as a legitimate finisher.

On any hand a Knights of the Round Table theme might be in order for my next EDH deck.
