A few ideas
Some kind of Black Greater Gargadon?
"Underworld Seal"
B
Sac a permanent: Put a counter on ~this
When ~this has 5 counters on it sac it and put a 5/5 flying demon token into play
Good with undying guys etc I guess
I don't even know if Gargadon is used for anything anymore so this probably wouldn't be either.
You could make it "discard a card" instead of "sac a permanent", I guess dredge would like that a lot (or not, because it's hard to sac to therapy/DR whatever)
------
A cheaper but narrower Night of Soul's Betrayal?
"Retaliatory Plague"
1BB
Whenever a creature attacks you or a PW you control it gets -1/-1 until end of turn.
You could also make it "put a -1/-1 counter on it" instead if you didn't think the "until end of turn" version was good enough, although the counters version might be a bit too good at 1BB
------
"Vernal Bloom for Swamps"
BBB
Seems to be on theme for black but probably unplayable outside of casual
------
"Nettlevine Blight for their Hand"
1B
When ~this enters the battlefield your opponent exiles a card from their hand face down.
Your opponent can play cards exiled with ~this
At the beginning of your opponent's end step, put all cards exiled with ~this into your opponents graveyard and your opponent exiles a card from their hand face down
Whenever your opponent has no cards in hand, sacrifice ~this
More Red than Black, but it could fit in Black's slice of the pie.
1BBB
If a creature would enter the battlefield, it enters the battlefield under your control, then each player gains control of all creatures they own.
Probably templated horribly, but the idea is for an enchantment that "steals" comes-into-play-effects. Although Wizards probably has this enchantment already deep in the design backlog. And it probably has Amazing!, because, you know, it has to do with the mind and trickery so let's just give it, along with everything else, to Blue.
So the submission I went with amusingly turned out to be exactly 300 characters long when templated in proper Magicese. If I were superstitious I'd call it a good sign.
Basically trying to give Black an acceleration card that's not just the usual "enjoy your infinite mana, hope you draw a Drain Life lol". Hoping that the static ability keeps R&D from costing it at 4BB or something silly, and that instead they focus on the second activated ability which I placed at just this short of completely crazy."The Dead Marshes"
You may play an additional land during your turn if that land is a Swamp.
B, Sacrifice a creature: Search your library for a Swamp card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.
BBB, Sacrifice three Swamps: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
YOU'RE GIVING ME A TIME MACHINE IN ORDER TO TREAT MY SLEEP DISORDER.
mine
"pay or i win"
whenever an opponet draws a card, you draw a card unless that opponent discard a card from his or her hand
Damn I really like this card. I don't know where Black is one the "play an additional land this turn" which is green and not in any other color AFAIK. Still, it seems like the abilities are reasonable so it seems like it could be costed at 1BB.Limited Exploration effects aren't insane at higher mana costs. It's is an engine card but it requires a token producer or repeatable card drawing to do much. Cool design.
"We are goblinkind, heirs to the mountain empires of chieftains past. Rest is death to us, and arson is our call to war."
I pushed this in the other day. Don't know if it'll show up but I figured someone should see it. Power level decreases as CC rises.
Whenever a creature enter's the battlefield, you may pay X life (where X is equal to that creature's power). If you do, that creature's controller sacrifices that creature and draws a card.
Tinkering with some crafting theory. Here
Thinking a bit longer I should have submited something more likely to print like
Dawn of the Damned - Enchantment - BBBB
Then Dawn of the Damned enters the battlefield, return all creatures in your graveyard to the battlefield under your control and loose half your life rounded up. Then Dawn of the Damned leaves the battlefield, exile all creatures you control from the game

Something interesting I came across today: it seems there were 24k entries that have now been sorted into four categories: "Yes," "Maybe," "No," and "Necropotence." My assumption is that all of the cards in the latter two categories are non-starters as far as the final YMTC vote is concerned.

You'd think that if a large enough portion of players created submissions that fell into a single category, they would get the hint that maybe that kind of card is popular.
Hell, they could probably actually reprint Necropotence in a Standard set right now and it wouldn't cause any problems. No rituals, combo decks don't really exist, aggro is way too fast, etc, etc.
