it is very silly but as long as people are willing to buy at higher and higher prices the prices will keep rising. it is the rule of supply and demand driving the prices up, I think the large issue is so many people who have extra cash and have the mentality of "I have to have this item right now, I am not shopping around."
I do admit to doing so myself but most of my singles come via Amazon. If I need a card I check there first and compare the price to blacklotusproject.com. If it is 10% or less of a difference in price then I usually just get it right then and there. I have found quit a few cards that are spiking in price via Amazon for very low prices. I just picked up a playset of mox opals for $75 shipped saved a few bucks over ebay prices even. I had a set but I think they are going to spike and I want to build a modern deck that uses them without tearing ravenger affinity apart. But I am one of them people who have about 20 decks and very rarely switch anything around other then major staples (power, duals, FOW etc). I did get (un) lucky and had a friend who is leaving magic since his new wife is a hardcore christian and thinks its evil, he sold me most of his collection for what he had in it instead of current prices. I had sold him a playset of FOW about 8 years ago and he sold it back to me for $80 for the whole set since that is what he paid me originally, plus a few kinda played duals for $25-$30 each. I think all in all I got about $3000 or so in cards for $1200 he wanted $600 for it all but like I told him most of it will be flipped that I dont need so I will get at least that, plus if he ever wants to play just leave the woman at home and he can borrow decks, tell her we are drinking and shooting trees since she is ok with that for some screwed up reason.
Is the price of foil cradle stable right now or is its rise based more so do to hype ??
Prices on foils are far more stable than non foils. Barring an unexpected banning, foil Cradles should be on the rise if anything.
I hope you did it before the price jump, because right now is possibly the worst time to be buying Cradles. As far as I see is, there are two things that can happen:
1) Gaea's Cradle puts Elves so over the top it gets banned. Its price plummets.
2) Gaea's Cradle ends up not doing that. With the hype gone, its price plummets.
Either way, I think now is one of the worst times to be buying them, because it isn't going to keep its current price.
Cradle has so much casual appeal that it won't plummet from either of those. Unfortunately, cards have a bit of a memory on their price. When was the last time you saw Tabernacle win a big event? Did you notice that it's price didn't plummet when it fell out of favor? They'll slowly drift down at worst, but at the same time newer players that have always wanted one for their "Super Awesome Elf Burn Deck of Doom!" will still eventually acquire them, helping to maintain the price. People who paid the now higher price will also not want to sell them at a loss to themselves and will help maintain the higher price as well.
Whenever I see a kid in a wheelchair it makes me a little sad. Because I always think, "Gee, they could have used those same wheels to make a bike for a regular kid. What a waste."
I keep hearing all this mess about price memory but really I've seen plenty of cards fall back to previous prices after brief surges when the surge was based more on hype than substance...
Examples: Wasteland, Personal Tutor, Energy Field, Riptide Laboratory...
I think the important distinction between Cradle and Tabernacle is that one is probably 20x more common than the other.
That said Cradle DID actually get better than it was and was still going for around $100 on Ebay as of this weekend, so I wouldn't freak out too much. Still only really goes in one deck.

New one for us to discuss: How much is your LGS charging for a Modern Masters draft? One of our local stores is charging £35 (that's $54 using this mornings exchange rate) for 3 boosters and giving out Dragon's Maze and prizes and the other is charging £30 ($46 as per this morning) and giving out one MM booster per player. Anyone able to beat this?

Let's say yes to both, as it is the Bitching about thread, after all :)

The 2 LGS stores I checked with are selling them and drafting them at MSRP. One of them sold out of boosters and draft spots pretty quick. The other I think still has some boxes up for sale, and is doing multiple drafts.
My LGS is doing $40 with 2 MM packs prize support per player.
Yeah, it would have taken a true master speculator to see that a reserved list land that makes insane amounts of mana per creature in a color filled with tons of cheap on color creatures would have ever gone up in value. Damn! That one really snuck up on us. I shouldn't have bought all those Ertai's Familiars. Damn! Magic is expensive. Damn!
My LGS isn't even hosting drafts. They are just selling the boxes only. #greed.
