Emidln, what's your current list? Might try sillysam71's list out tonight, in any case. Unless I feel like playing some more ThoughtLash.dec...

Nice! I played your exact list last night at my local. I was super jetlagged from flying to CA from New Zealand though, so was playing pretty horribly - lost a match to D&T due to fatigue misplays. Otherwise everything was pretty simple - LDV is very very good in this deck.

Any thoughts about the list after playing the deck? I had multiple opponents call me lucky while playing it, but I think that just speaks to how consistent the list is. All of our combo pieces are 4-ofs and LDV fills in the gaps very well. Not to mention all of the cantrips to smooth out draws.

I'm not 100% sure if I'm on board with Daze. When its good, its good; but I would like to try Spell Pierce or something again next time. Otherwise everything in the deck seemed great. Have you ever thought about Massacre in the board?

Daze is interesting in this deck. I used it more as a tempo play trying to catch your opponent off balance. I liked it against Shardless BUG. It's good at countering an early Hymn, or when they tap out on turn 2 for a Shardless Agent and you counter whatever they cascade into. Against storm, though, it was less good and I would just counter the first spell they played to stifle their development. It's not that great at protecting the combo, but I think that may be ok. Being able to counter a turn 2 hatebear without pitching a blue card is pretty nice.

I have an older list a few pages back where I had a singleton Toxic Deluge, Dread of Night, and Massacre. I do really like Massacre as a card. I think Toxic Deluge just gets the nod since it's more of a catch all and doesn't have those narrow situations where it can't kill certain creatures like Massacre runs into every now and then. It could be that those situations are so narrow that it's ok, but you could also try and play both if you can make space.

LDV is very good indeed. Hence why I was running it back when I was on 4 colors.

I am currently on a weird hybrid list right now. I'll post a list with writeup later.

I'm normally on UB, but does anyone have any thoughts on Mentor out of the board? Not in lieu of the combo, in addition to.

The way I see it, with all the cantrips in this deck (I also run 2 tops), mentor is a "must-answer" card. We can bob and weave, leaving your opp with tough questions about leaving in stuff like Abrupt Decay, Swords, Bolt, etc.

It would also allow me to run a couple swords in the board - I've been having problems with Delver, and it also takes care of hatebears.

Downsides are obvious: some dilution, and going up another nonbasic land instead of a basic. However, I'd still have 4-5 islands, so I'm not overly worried.

Anybody tried this approach? Esper Mentor Omni?

Hi everyone! I'm new here; I'd like to know if this is the right place to talk also about green splash (basically with Eureka). I know the title is "monoU", but I was wondering this since I'm seeing discussions also about UB version (that I really like, and I will try for sure if Eureka doesn't satisfy me).
    Thanks in advance!

This deck (the 9th place SCG Columbus list) felt stronger than I was anticipating. Thoughtseize was often the best card in the deck, slowing them down, taking hate, clearing the way for the combo, or just making sure the coast was clear. Lim-Dul's Vault exceeded expectations as well, imitating Vampiric Tutor at worst, but usually being 2-in-1. And at the moment, at least, people have no idea what you're on (I heard guesses of Esper Mentor and Tezzerator).

    note - I played -1 Boseiju, +1 fetch

Anyway - I went 4-0 Friday night (we had 16 players). My 3rd and 4th round matches were on camera:

    3rd Round - https://www.twitch.tv/snapcasters/v/63605951?t=128m50s

Don't put your LDV 5 into your hand, kids! I knew I had the kill with him tutoring SnT, and me w/ a top in play. Was lucky to still have Omniscience in my top 3 after "fixing" my mistake.
FYI - I had FoW/Emrakul in hand when I cast LDV, and after he got SnT, I dug for a 5 w/ both Omniscience and Wish

    4th Round - https://www.twitch.tv/snapcasters/v/63605951?t=185m12s

I don't think there's much to be learned from these feature matches, as the deck did all the work - but everyone should check out Snapcasters' stream. They exclusively cover legacy events in the Baltimore area.

I played Esper Mentor to day 2 at the first SCG Open post-Dig's banning. I don't remember Mentorr being very good in the event, and I cut it shortly after. You can find the list and report somewhere deeper in this thread. It was the same core as the one that Sam played to 9th. IIRC, my maindeck was something like -2 Daze, -1 TS, -1 Boseiju, +3 Flusterstorm, +1 SDT. I ran 4 Mentor out of the sideboard. I think I was on only 4 islands, with a tundra maindeck and one in the sb. I trimmed non-essential sideboard cards.

Been there, tried that, still casting Doomsday.

Nice showing. I agree with your comments. LDV was always better than I expected and Thoughtseize was never a bad draw.

Noone recognizes the deck yet. Dude at the scg offered me a high five when I opened Underground Sea into Top as he thought I was on Doomsday. lol

    1) LDV for Wish #3, BS into Wish #3, Wish for Call + Wish, Call For Emrkaul, now you have Emrakul + Wish #3 in hand. You can Emrakul and then use your spare wish to find Rushing River / Trickbind / Noxious Revival for Call (to get the 2nd Emrakul and take 2 attacks in a row)
    2) LDV for Emrakul, Wish for RtA, Cover them in Ants. If they survive, Brainstorm into Emrakul.
    3) LDV for Emrakul, BS into Emrakul, Cast Emrkaul. Wish for Noxious Revival, Revival on Call. Take your extra turn and draw Call, attack for 15, call for Emrakul #2, cast Emrakul #2, take another turn to attack for another 15.
    4) LDV for Omni, Wish for RtA, cover them in Ants.

What you end up doing depends on how much life you can afford to pay and if they have something threatening in play or on the stack. If you have spare cards in hand, the rest of the LDV pile might matter, as you'll be able to up to 3 cards. This could matter if you're low on life and have a trigger on the stack, such that you can find a BS + Wish, use the BS in hand to draw BS + Wish, putting back something spare, and then have BS, Wish, Wish. This would let you Call for Emrakul, BS Emrakul to the top, then Wish->RtA.

The third option ends up being key when dealing with a bunch of leylines, since it lets you make them sac 12 and take 30 without targeting.

In some situations, you have sided in Trickbind and you can find that with Firemind's Foresight. In general, if Trickbind is good in the matchup, you'd rather side it in because you end up with 5 copies via Trickbind plus 4 Wish->FF->Trickbind.

If I have life to spare and am not in danger of dying to say, a Lightning Bolt, I'll always cast LDV before Wish or Brainstorm.

    Sideboarding and Play advice:

Against Burn, the only real cards tend to be Pyroblast and Eidolon. They won't often have both, and if you have Force, Thoughtseize, or Daze, you hit the first one that you see (assuming their Pyroblast only targets SnT or Omni, if they want to counter a Brainstorm or something, use your judgement). Even if they have Eidolon, you can often beat it by just having Emrakul or Wish->Call->Emrakul. We often don't beat the 2nd Eidolon effect (Pyrostatic Pillar), and if they open Goblin Guide they can race you a small percentage of the time. This matchup feels closer than it has historically been for me (very favorable).

Against Loam, do not get Choke'd. This is almost always how you lose. Sometimes they have KGrip, and their prison pieces largely don't matter besides Choke (The Sphere won't kill you, the Sphere when your Islands don't untap kills you). If you defend against Choke and Marit Lage, their deck is mostly garbage against you. Side out Boseiju for bounce spells, fetch basics, and don't tap out under Spheres if you can avoid it. If your wish isn't going to win the game, cycle it on their end step for a bounce spell. Black variants with Raven's crime are the scariest, but these aren't seen that much. You are absurdly high percentage in g1, and should be favored postboard with good play.

Against Miracles, look for Boseiju and LDV->Boseiju. It's not guaranteed to kill them (it's slow to protect everything if you don't have Emrakul), but it's very high percentage. If you can get Omni into play, their countermagic might not even matter vs your free spells. Take your time, and it's difficult to lose 2/3. You want EE and Wipe Away in the deck here, as both can deal with Canonist or Counterbalance.

Against Delver, Boseiju isn't that great unless you can bait out their first Wasteland. Even if you can do that, they sometimes have a second, and that is very slow. You probably want to side in Flusterstorm, and Daze tends to be at its worst against Daze decks. EE and Toxic Deluge are both excellent against Delver, as they have to spend a lot of effort fighting over your removal, lest they give you 12 turns to setup. Red Delver is harder than other Delvers, and slightly unfavorable. I've found BUG Delver to be favorable.

With Dazes in the deck, the combo pseudo-mirror suffers. Daze is awful against ANT, particularly compared to Flusterstorms. I've found the matchup to be coin flippy, with ANT and TES slightly favored. It was coin flippy, but slightly favorable when we ran more Flusterstorms. Reanimator suffers as well, but not as much (they have very little in the way of ability to evade Daze), but our Reanimator matchup is still better than other SnT decks. Casting SnT with Emrakul in hand (not necessarily Omni) is key. You end up playing a very controlling game against them, and will necessarily lose some reasonable percentage of the time when they can get an early Entomb and defend their reanimation spell with a Daze. If ANT is 45/55, Reanimator feels closer to 40/60 in their favor. You side in Flusterstorm and Trickbind in each matchup. Trickbind is useful to counter Griselbrand activations (often providing you a short window with which to combo). I don't like EE against Storm as I'm not that interested in fighting a resource war with them, given their ability to punch out of holes with just a Ritual and an Ad Nauseam or Past in Flames.

MUD is easier to beat than Eldrazi (their clock is slower, and thus all you really worry about are their hands with multiple sol lands + chalice). Chalice alone won't always even slow us down, let alone beat us. MUD and Eldrazi can both counter sorceries now, which sours what was becoming a favorable matchup. Eldrazi is worse than MUD, something of a 40/60 matchup. MUD is a coin flip. You'll want EE and Rushing River in the deck and wishable mass bounce. If you play both H.Recall and Rebuild, Rebuild comes in while H.Recall stays in the board.

    Regarding Lim-Dul's Vault:

Be mindful of your deck size. Casting LDV with a high life total and a deck size that isn't divisible by 5 is extremely powerful. You can bridge neighboring stacks together if you play your cards correctly.

When low on resources in a grindfest, don't be afraid to cast LDV for 0-2 life just to find some better cards. If the important part is not losing, finding a Brainstorm, disruption spell, and a fetch can be huge.
Keep on doing God's work. +1

Been following this thread and doing research for a while. I've wanted to play OmniTell for a while, but was unsure if it could preform well. What do people think is the best version right now? It seems like the U/B version has the most resilience as well as good consistency. What is everyone elses opinion?

If you're looking for a starting decklist, I would honestly go with the list I played at SCG Columbus from a page back. I haven't had time to play much legacy since then, but the deck felt extremely powerful and I would run that list back in a heartbeat with minimal changes, if any. The last couple pages of this thread have some really good information on Firemind's Foresight lines and things like that. Feel free to ask questions as things come up in your testing.

Thanks for the reply! Yea the list you had is currently the one I'm running, and it feels great so far. Thoughtseize is always great and LDV feels like a vamp tutor at its absolute worst. Am really happy I started playing it.

Been playing the UB version for awhile now and because we're able to kill at instant speed (Lim-Dûl's Vault) I haven't had a single situation come up where I need Trickbind. I know that there are certain scenarios where the opp has a taxing effect (Thalia/Thorn) + a trigger (Flickerwisp/Thoughtknot) where (if you have 2 mana available) Trickbind is useful. I feel like this is too narrow and we could use the SB slot on something better. Let me hear your opinions on why we do or don't need Trickbind?

I see your point. I've found myself in the past going to get it, but then realizing I could just win in response instead. The most I've used it for recently has been as an extra card to hedge against storm. That said, there could possibly be something better utilized in that slot. Definitely worth considerring an alternative at least.

    2 parts:

    1. How do you see the eldrazi matchup and what are you sideboarding against them? I'm personally playing E. Truth and Hurkyll's Recall as they are versatile, cheap and can bounce chalice/thorn etc. I'm also playing Slaughter Pact, but I don't board it in for g2 cause it might be dead and is still wishable.

    2. I'm not in love with Noxious Revival. I still haven't had a situation come up where I needed it against discard or to return call for double Emrakul. I would much rather have a second Surgical or maybe a Cage. What are your opinions?

In their EoT, you can C.Wish -> Noxious -> SnT on top if your first SnT attempt did not resolve. Or save the SnT in response to opposing Deathrite activation.

It is a narrow card, though.
