Yes, like this forum is any better... Seriously though whats wrong with reddit? from what Ive seen their legacy subreddit is much more mature, polite, and intelligent than the manchildren of this forum could ever dream of being.

You spend too much time in conflict driven threads. Actually talk about a deck here, other than Miracles, and you will find this site far more enjoyable.

Basically, you get out of this site what you put in. When you come to the site, start threads based on real world politics (Which you did) or get involved in the thread that is basically all MTG politics your unlikely to get much out of here.

I have told you about this before. The Source is a better site when you use it for its intended purpose, the building and tuning of decks. Personally I love the Stax, Lands and Bomber Man threads. They are great.

I agree that the deckbuilding threads on the Source get higher-level/skill discussion than we get on the subreddit. It's something we're working on.

Also saw a post saying a survival deck would play 8 cantrips. Not remotely, brainstorm isn't even that good in survival and if brainstorm isn't cutting it there the rest certainly have no chance.

Reddit also thought Dig and Cruise were bad cards for a long time. One of my mates was a CFB writer and said from the start that those 2 cards were absolutely broken and would have to be banned (in modern). He has the record of most nymber of replies on reddit and cfb for an article, as everyone told him he was wrong.

The recruiter thing is just icing man.

I agree that the deckbuilding threads on the Source get higher-level/skill discussion than we get on the subreddit. It's something we're working on.

I enjoy /r/mtglegacy very much. Also t seems to me that there are ore experienced users posting there than six months ago, so the discourse is improving.

Regarding deck building threads, it's harder on Reddit because older threads are always buried by newer threads (as opposed to The Source, where recently active threads rise to the top) and there are no dedicated deck-building thread sections. This means threads tend to be less permanent (at least in practice). It makes it harder for discussions to progress when conversations are forever dying and starting anew. Also there is less motive to post in detail when we know our wisdom will soon be lost to the ages (here new users sometimes will read an entire thread if they want to learn about a deck).

If you want top quality deck-building discussion there, I think you'll need to sticky some deck threads. Im not sure it's necessary though. /r/mtglegacy has links to primers both here and at Salvation. The Reddit format isn't as good for long ongoing discussion, but there is a "freshness" to it which keeps it entertaining and fun.

I got slapped for naming DRS a clear upgrade to Noble Hierarch as people pointed me to the conditionality of removing Fetchlands (lol) and I was laughed at when I proposed to replace Enter the Infinite with Dig Trough Time and called also Treasure Cruise an instant 4-off in a format with Brainstorm/Ponder/Probe/Fetches while it was a value, lategame 1-off for others. That stuff happens.

Reddits system of up-/downvoting can be used to filter out a lot of bullshit posted so things do not necessarily off track as on TheSource, where half of the non-deckbulding threads degenerate into B&R discussion because there are always a few users pouring oil into the fire if they get the chance and that there is no option to lower the visibility of such. Of course Reddit can't offer real deckbuilding threads as stuff gets indeed burried all the time.

As I said, you get what you look for here. If your only planing to post in this thread, shits going to pile. But that's why you don't talk about politics at the dinner table. You will get what you ask for.

I like The Source for its more laid back, less sanitised feel. That said I try to stop bullying and bullshit when it arises. But if you start a thread external of this one about the ban list and then beg for it to stay open, expect the trolling you then receive. Because we try and keep the bullshit to one location. When you start a thread that is "Whats you political leaning, the MTG edition" and then ask for us not to close it, people have two choices. They can arm themselves up for a fight or unilaterally disarm the thread. Doesn't help when the OP has no understanding of sarcasm or subtly.

My issue with Reddit is one of the sites design as well as the communities use therefore of. I dislike reputation systems on sites. It's not a democratic system so much as it is "Do you like this comment" system. I saw a post about Legacy in the main MTG sub that was not about how expensive the format is, so the discussions in said thread all became about cost and the post got downvoted to hell. Why? Because people were not looking for the info in said thread, they were looking for their own views to be confirmed. At any time somes says something that did not conform to those views they got quashed.

No that I am looking to start a site war. People will go to the site that suits them. Personally, Reddit to me feels like a library, where you will get told to be quite if your making noise that others dislike, Salvation feels like a Hospital where everything is so sanitised and clean and The Source feels like a Pub. Not always politically correct but the environment is fun and it has a kind of freedom to it.
