Dan Frazier's playmats were cool, but I didn't like how he was ragging on how the Moxen art sucks and how his current stuff was so much better than MTG art. Just sounded like a crotchety old man to me.

Isn't he basically a crotchety old man who is still best known for something he did 20 years ago? Many of the original artists are a little bitter about MTG because of how they got fucked out of royalties, had their actual art replaced with CGI dogshit and are no longer doing MTG art.

In any way, his maps are great too, but I emailed him my ideas, and I am still waiting for an response... it's been over a month now...

At a venue or in a shop, I doubt it. Unless all shops in Korea keep up with eBay prices, and unless all those tournament venues and shops have healthy scenes, then that card will be how ever much the locals value it. Can't say for sure, but I find cards worth more and less depending on whether it's being sold in America or the Europe. Different strokes for different folks. Lends to supply/demand.

There are pictures of some of those. About 50 Pegasus were distributed by Amy Weber while all others are pretty rare - to this day there was no second scan apart from the one on squt's website and none knowing anyone owning this card.

Pricing in an open sale would have been rather funny as it is easily the most desirable one of those. Maybe $5k but who knows.

Always wondered if these foreign cards are as expensive (in USD currency) as they are here? Like, if I lived in Korea, would I have to pay $50 USD for Ill-Gotten Gains or would it just be a few dollars like English ones are here in the States.

Korea isn't like Japan in terms of shops selling singles. In the whole of Seoul you'd be lucky to find a shop selling Korean value saga cards - they all go out internationally.

That's too bad. I'm Korean and plan on visiting Korea soon. Was just curious as to if a Liliana of the Veil (Korean) would cost me the same amount of money over there versus buying a Liliana of the Veil (Korean) here in the States.

in Japan you can go through the bulk boxes and get some good deals (i once got a foil jap trygon predator for under a buck) but its not like that in Korea, I'd be surprised if it was any cheaper to get cards there except for trash, anything good is going to be at a premium or sold internationally

I like the Core Set Ponders a lot. Much better art than weird merfolk boobs. Also, excellent choice on the Islands. Very nice.

For a very brief time I owned two Lotuses. I had one and a friend convinced me to spring for an entire Unlimited set. Then he sold off the Power Nine for exactly the price I paid for the set including his commission. It was a gangbusters deal no matter how you look at it. I have made only poor trades since then.

I can hardly believe we used to play our cards unsleeved. I have not owned any power for so long though, I would not even know what to do with them.

I had two Lotuses for a bit too, I upgraded mine by selling the beat one. I should have just kept it. I also had two English Imperial Seals, but I traded away one as a favor. Probably should have kept that too. Oh well.

I've order some stuff from him. I'm not condition obsessive, he shipped reasonably quick given he's on the other side of the earth. One thing that shocked me was stuff was packed a little haphazard. No plastic around the cards (sleeves, hard snap cases) if things had gotten moist it might have been a problem. He does have awful prices but on some items he's simply the only guy on eBay at any given time who has XXXX or YYYY. Obviously if he did auctions nothing would end at his BIN prices but maybe he's just riding a scarcity wave, or doesn't really need the cash so he just lets that stuff sit up there and rot. I wish I could filter him out of my saved searches, since his shit never sells and just gets relisted.

My favorite were the two "Mint" 5th City of Brass he sold me - brown boarders, one had what looked like Hawaiian Punch spilled on it and the other had a clearly readable address on it probably from writing on top of it with a pen.

That's the thing though, he really isn't if you know where to look and who to ask. For instance some of the 10.00 plus (essentially chaff) cards from fourth and fifth he sells I have and would gladly charge people half that price if they need them to complete sets.

He's a big seller, I used to buy items from him in auctions years ago (maybe 4 years ago?) and his reporting of condition was always a bit dodgy. Also very slow shipping. But he wasn't fraudulent in my dealings and I would use him again if the deal was right - although there are better options these days.

I've bought from him plenty of times. No issues with condition. A couple times the order may have been incorrect but he's quick to respond to communication and fix it. As for price? My whole argument is based on the point that his selection isn't that impressive if you do a little digging. Take pictures as you're opening up the package. Demonstrate that the cards you thought you purchased are not the ones you received (condition-wise), and open up a case to get a refund. eBay gives really good buyer protection, so you just need to make sure you document it well.

You call it buy protection, I call it the reason I stopped selling through ebay and especially paypal. Paypal has so shitty seller protection, it's not even funny. More than often you have to run after your money for weeks and send in countless emails in order to win a case. Seller? Sit back and relax.

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have it this way than to give to much power to sellers. But paypal is just off balance. At least that's the way it was before I stopped using it about 1-2 years ago. But I feel people had this kind of conversation in this thread before, so I'll shut up and ask to see a Foil German Goblin Matron Playset. Pretty please!

Koby, I can't tell if there are scratches, dents or wear on the card but if it's just dirt you can easily clean is with a slightly damp cotton bud if you don't want to go through the stress of the returns process.

That copy was very dirty (and hence, not NM).
The other two copies had imprints from what looks like someone wrote with a ballpoint pen, and consistent with what Ertai's Familiar described upon his inspection; which again disqualifies it from NM condition.

Hence, not as described in the auction.

Exactly.....that's my concern. Since we're paying a premium price for those cards, at least it should be in the condition as advertised. Seems like the mail man tried to deliver the cards but I was at work. Most likely I have to drive over to the post office to pick it up. Still have hope. *crossing fingers*

But now that I've read the past couple of posts...I'll probably pass. And besides...100$ American for 4 Foil Japanese Delvers? Not worth it right despite this being the Pimp thread?

Last night, even though it was likely a sub-optimal play, I Fauna Shamaned away a Smiter mid combat just to get Ambush Cat. Then ironically; I ambushed his not exalted Qasali Pridemage. Cat on cat crime.

Foils are bad enough. Pre-release foils just scream pokemon / YGO. Also, as jamesh points out they are the least valuable foil (FNM?) so not only are you defiling the roots of magic and the game as Garfield intended it but you are doing it with no value.

Are you on crack? The prerelease emrakul is the least valuable emrakul, I hate that art. And that foiling process. And, well, everything ABOUT the card in prerelease form. The set foil is infinitely hotter than the prerelease foil. Your opinion is like 1 out of a million. I've never heard anyone say anything good about the prerelease foil emrakul because the card really does look that bad.

That taken playmat is incredible. Really good looking and probably the only one in existence so at least you never have the same playmat as the person you're playing against.

T-Chinese pop up on eBay less. That's for sure, it was tough to get sets together. Sometimes you just need to have both. It's the only way to be sure ...

Least valuable, sure. Prerelease foiling, eh, I would rather have a non-foil version. I like Tedin art in general. So everything is stacked against the Sweet art on the prerelease version. But I like the watery, sketchy look.

To me, some degree of pimpness comes from the overall aesthetic of the deck. I'll include card art in that consideration, not just frame. So, in a foiled out deck I would go with prerelease Emrakul. This is true for a couple other cards, such as the graveborn Cabal Therapy.

Yeah the original art on Cabal Therapy is tight. Sometimes Ron Spencer gets a little out of hand with muscle fiber, veins and feux penises but that painting is spot on ...

Well in honor of DnT getting two into the T8 of the GP (and winning!), figured I should post my DnT deck even though its not 100% complete. My camera sucks, so quality isn't great, but gives an idea.

The theme is Cyrillic foils, old S Chinese foils (some of my favorite looking cards) and then English foils.

The deck took two+ years to complete and the joy was really tracking everything down. So onto the deck:

Thanks guys! Yeah Mindcensors aren't easy to find (but still easier than Wisp). Every time I asked someone in Russia to track me down a Wisp, they were like why would you even want that haha

I have a foiled out Death and Taxes myself that took a little while. I don't like foreign cards much and my build is different from any others I've seen. Been playing the Leonin Arbiter and Mirran Crusader in it before I saw anyone else on the D&T thread play them. I'll try to get it posted in the next two days but my comp died and I borrow this one for a few hours each day.

Sweet christ Steve Argyle must have some frequent flyer miles racked up .... he was just in Atlanta. I didn't let him do the double color thing on my shit. Nice stuff though, I always forget they squirted out a tiny bit of simplified u-saga to go along with the bigger Hong Kong / Taiwan release.

I wasn't actually being serious...they probably number in the tens of thousands but most people don't know in Russia that flickerwisp is a sought after card for DnT.

Those are some really nice russian foil ancestral vision's and unlimited duals. All this foil russian stuff popping up.

The 5th edition City of Brass reminds me of Return of the Jedi and Jabba's Palace. Somebody needs to get them altered to have extended borders and a little caravan of Luke and the droids walking up. Maybe another with a skiff and another with one of those giant Jawa crawlers. :really:

I had those moxes up on ebay and sold them. i am not registered on tipo.it but the previous owner was fulvio zerbino, known collector in italy.
i reused the exactly the same scan.

Squandered Resources is Japanese. Many people, and dealers don't know the difference in Chinese (or Asian languages at all). I own some simplified Chinese stuff simply because it was mislabeled by the seller. I'd happy swap it all for real Chinese. Aesthetics aside simplified chinese is just awful, it's a governments attempt to destroy history and culture and to dumb something down for their people rather than to actually educate them </rant>.

WotC didn't start making Dumbed Down Chinese (Simplified) until Saga. Then they skipped it for Destiny and Legacy and the whole Masques block I believe.
Then the mainlanders threatened to lock Maro in solitary so they started making Dumb Chinese again in Invasion. They dropped real (Traditional) Chinese in Mirrodin sometime, then brought it back recently in Innistrad (?) (Librarities has a nice breakdown on what sets are in what languages).

I think I'm too language diversified to compete with you guys ... I have Korean cards, Russian cards, Chinese cards and German cards ... but I'll give it a shot. Instead of by set I think Color / Landness is probably quicker. And at $5 a basic I think Koby and EF crush my sack on basics alone.

Not very often I come across miscuts with both card names on them...not totally sure on how that works for sanctioned play. But these are awesome and I'll play them anyway.

I've heard mixed things from they're legal, ask the judge, or they're not legal. I would like to hear someone chime in on this.

if the card name is obscured then it may be ruled illegal (depending how the judge is feeling on the day)
for this reason, cards with obscured names tend to be worth less

That miscut High Tide is sweet!

About its legality, I've never gotten any guidance on miscuts - mostly because they're so uncommon and plenty of judges don't understand legacy pimping. The MTR only says that miscut cards are legal. Just based off of card alteration rulings, I'd say that the High Tide is likely to be fine (of course check with the HJ, etc etc etc). It has a clear mana cost and artwork, the two key identifying components for spells, and it includes neither from the other card. I'm pretty sure it's required to have a normal Magic back though - that might get you. I don't know if that policy has changed since double-faced cards have taught people to use opaque sleeves.

First real Pimping post!

I have been playing RUG for a while now and have done a decent amount of pimping. Compared to the rest of the thread, It's pretty modest, but I think its a good start. I have definitely caught the pimping bug!

I really enjoy going to events, meeting people, and trading rather than paying cash over the internet; so progress is slow.

This is my pet Elf deck. All I have is a camera phone and a desk lamp so these photos leave a bit to be desired. I know some of you will have an issue with my choice of foils but I'm not a rich man. I'm not even a middle class man. The Cradles I traded for. The Bayou is FBB and was a gift from a friend. The Forests are MPS Ravnica lands with the fancy guild emblems on them. I use that Dryad Arbor because lots of people confuse it with a basic Forest and I can get marginal value on people that way. Also I honestly like the way it looks. I'll upgrade the Cabal Therapies, Progenitus, Duress (although this might become a Mindbreak Trap) and Karakas when finances allow. My rule was - Shiny, at all (preferably lowest) costs. It might be kinda hard to tell from the pictures but everything that can be foiled has been, except for, obviously, the Karakas.

Probably not, the Wald misprint is very common. Also I hope you're not planning on playing with it in a sanctioned event because very few judges will allow it in their tournament.

The Australian APAC lands are very cool, pretty sure that is the only Kangeroo in all of Magic. I think you should go all of 1, or each land should be different.

I have a set of Wald and matching Plains for enchantress. Any event larger than a local game store style event has disallowed me from using them. I even offered to swap the plains to ones that didn't match. "Too confusing" they say.

Cool dredge deck, I always forget Gemstone mine is TS and thus russoable. I think I have some nice looking silver ink signed Ashen Ghouls that have fallen out of favor since I got German ones if you want 'em.
